New York Or Los Angeles To Become A Singer Which Is Better

Which place is better for Voice over acting? Las Angeles or New York?

Wherever you have the most contact. Voice acting is acting - except that it's more competitive and more dependent on who you know.

Since getting acting is an extremely competitive career regardless, most actors take any job they can get - voice, stage, screen, commercials, etc. They're not just voice actors - they are actors. So it's not that LA or NY is a big hub for voice actors - it's that they're a hub for just actors. But actors who focus on voice over work often have their own studios so they can do their work from anywhere.

Here are some articles about voice acting that you might find helpful:

Where in Los Angeles should I move to to become a singer/actor?

Take "Obviousman's" advice. Seriously! There are already a million wannabes in Los Angeles, and more get off the bus every day. You would be just one more empty face in the crowd. Moving to Los Angeles ONLY means you moved to Los Angeles. It will do absolutely NOTHING to advance an acting career. The way to success as an entertainer is, as "O-man" stated, best started in your own home town.

Moving from New York to Los Angeles for acting?

Four years ago, I moved from Moscow to New York. Now that I am eighteen, I am about to graduate from New York Film Academy acting program. Now that I have a decent resume (I have lots of foreign training, one off- Broadway play and student films from NYFA), I am planning on moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. After conducting some research, I made a decision to study with Ivana Chubbuck and M.K Lewis in order to further my acting abilities and make contacts. I am planning on attending seminars and doing showcases to meet theatrical agents and casting directors. I have 8,000 and a car with me and I want to support myself by being a bartender ( I am in a process of getting my bartending license). Is there anything I need to be aware of? Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Which is the best place in America to become an English singer Los Angeles or New York?

There is no place better than the other. If you want to become a singer your best place would be YouTube. Now for live performances I would say New York because of live theatre and nightclubs. I would also say that LA has a lot of the same perks and most of the record labels have a presence there. You should probably break it down in a different way. Which one can you afford to live in? Would it be easy for you to get to auditions if you lived in one place over another? Do you know anyone in either place?can you financially support yourself in a job until you make money as a singer. Lots of other questions you need to figure out neither one will automatically get you to be a singer both places you will have to work hard and put the time in and keep working at your craft. Overnight success takes years to happen and a lot of rejection. Best of luck in your journey

What is the best city to live in for a singer/songwriter/musician?

The city you are located in is not as important as the content of your music. Especially if you are trying to become famous over youtube. You might as well stay where you are, and develop a unique voice before attempting to make it in a big city with a big music scene. LA is full of people who thought they could make it big but went unnoticed while hundreds of people jumped them in popularity. The same can be said for NY and plenty of other cities with a big music scene. Acoustic pop is extremely over saturated right now, and any city you go to will likely already have a huge supply of acoustic pop artists. The most important thing is developing your own voice and remaining true to what makes you like to play music, along with honing your songwriting and instrumental skills. Once you do that, you will be an individual instead of one of the sheep in the gigantic herd that is pop music.I have lived in Portland, Denver and Seattle and I have seen relatively small acts rise to headlining national festivals in just a year. Look for a growing city like Portland or Denver, and hone your craft.

I am a 19 y/o Indian male who would like to move to New York alone. Is this feasible?

Do you live in India? Those who come to the USA on tourist visa cannot work. A tourist visa is called a B1 or B2 visa, you need to get that before you enter the USA. Once you are in the USA, you may be able to change your status by applying for a work visa BEFORE your tourist visa expires. You file this application with US Citizenship and Immigration Servives (USCIS). There are several types of work visas. One visa is the H-1B, which allows a foreign worker to work temporarily work for a US employer. The employer will need to file an I-129 petition with the USCIS. Another type of work visa that may be available to you is the O-1 . This allows a foreign worker who possesses extraordinary abilities to work for a US employer temporarily. The Employer has to file an I-129 petition with USCIS .There are multiple other work visas but I am not familiar with them. Remember, you must apply for change in status before your B-1 tourist visa expires. On the other hand, while a decision is being made on your change of status petition, your tourist visa status remains valid. If you are denied the work visa, you must leave the country right away. If not, you may never be able to enter the country again. Now to answer your question--you may not work on a tourist visa. If you want to be a singer, that's a toughie in a place like NYC where it is extremely difficult to break into the 'singing world' leave alone get someone to petition for you. However, if you are talking about Hindi songs, I guess you will need to get in touch with the Indian community, incase someone knows of anyone in the music industry who may be able to petition for you if they really get blown away by your singing . Finally, you are only 19! Usually 19 yr olds from overseas come to the USA on students' visas to study. NYC is an expensive place to live. You could live as a paying guest at someone's house but that too will cost you around $600 atleast a month in not the greatest neighborhood. But if you know of any Indian family who will rent you a room, that may be better because they usually live in residential areas that are safe. Ofcourse, you first need a tourist visa. First things first. Good luck.
