How do I recover lost contacts on a Windows phone?

If you are running Windows Phone 8.1 on a device with expandable storage via an SD card, you may want to grab this new system app from Microsoft. The release is titled 'contacts+message backup' and the tiny app only installs to the Settings on your Windows Phone (it will not be listed in your apps). Contacts+message will "backup of all your contacts (in VCF format) and messages (SMS & MMS including attachments) to SD card (in XML format) for later restore to same or another Windows Phone."The information is saved to in a 'backup+restore' folder on the SD card.If this all sounds vaguely familiar, it is because we recently ran a story on the Xolo WIN Q1000 Windows Phone that had this same app built in. At the time, we implied how it would be useful for all Windows Phone users to have this ability, and many of you agreed in the article comments. Evidently, someone at Microsoft was listening because you can now download the <1 MB app to your Windows Phone 8.1 device to get the same function.Oh and what happens if you install this to say a Lumia Icon (aka a phone with no SD card option)? Nothing much. The system app will appear in Settings, but (a) it will note no SD card was found and (b) you cannot uninstall it. Sure, it will not harm your phone, but it creates an unnecessary listing in your settings. So, heed that warning before installing!Anyway, grab the app and enjoy backing up your contacts and messages locally on your Windows Phone and save that data.

What should you expect after buying a Nokia Lumia?

You should expect ignorants making jokes and giving a look (only if you say you bought Lumia because you prefer it over other devices) and should right away understand that you’re a part of elite “Windows Phone Users” minority group (feeling proud? :P)Then you should expect that there is nothing much apart from tiles on the start screen and a handful of quality features. — no “fancy customization” like Android. If you have Windows 10 Mobile on it then, you should be mentally prepared for getting irritated at very crucial moments:You can miss capturing an amazing moment because your camera app is slow to start or, it crashed. You can feel left out if your friends are playing Pokemon GO and “Snapchat”ing. You will bang your head on don’t know what when you are lost and your beloved Windows Device will flash “searching for your location”.Flirting with a girl on WhatsApp or Messenger and suddenly the app crashes.Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a windows mobile “hater” but a fan(!boy) and used many Windows phones and experienced things. Windows Phones are great devices in many ways but sadly those great things are of only Enterprise users’ concern now. Nothing really great to offer to general community. Its obvious now that the majority of Windows Mobile user base consists of only fanboys. So if you bought a Windows mobile now, there might be a good reason for that and you enjoy what Windows has got to offer.

Have you ever wished that the Windows Phone was as successful as an alternative platform to iOS or Android? How would you have made it so?

Yes, all the time.I've always said that Windows OS is much more stable than either iOS or Android.I can't remember ever having to do a hard reset on any of my Lumias due to freezing etc.It was the only OS that stood out from the crowd. When you think about it Android and iOS look very similar on a phone screen. Windows on the other hand stands out.Two things crippled Windows OS;The lack of/poor quality of apps (dont tell me Microsoft couldn't have rectified this if they had really wanted to!)AndMicrosoft! I mean, it's as if they wanted it to fail.First of all they get suckers to buy into the platform (windows 7.5 I think originally) as much because people were loyal to Nokia as anything I expect. But 7.5 was half-assed, so they update to 8.0 and dont bother making the upgrade available to devices running 7.5!! So if you bought a 7.5 os handset you're screwed. That'll test the loyalty of anyone eh?But Microsoft are good at screwing loyal suckers!Nokia always stayed loyal to Microsoft even though market share was going down not up.They even signed an agreement tying them to Windows, probably in return for some promises that Microsoft would get its act together and make the system viable. Of course that didn't happen, and Nokia ended up getting screwed even worse than the customers since an ex Microsoft exec went working for them….just long enough to orchestrate the sale of Nokia's phone division to (guess who) Microsoft at a great price since Nokia-who used to be just about the biggest phone manufacturer in the world-now have a market share that would nearly make RIM feel successful!Of course, once the exec has shafted his new company he moves back to Microsoft, presumably so that he can put the final nail in Windows OS’ coffin!Microsoft stores dont even sell phones anymore so to all intents and purposes Windows OS as a mobile platform is dead!Killed purely by the rank stupidity of its creators! How would I have made it a challenger to the competition? I would have sold it to Nokia and then let them manage it. And part of the agreement would have been a clause forcing them to have nothing whatsoever to do with the wankers at Microsoft ever again!

How do I fix a Nokia Lumia 520 in a constant restart loop?

I can assume your Nokia Lumia 520 runs on Windows Phone 8 OS. Nevertheless preventing data loss would be claassified by the type of data you feel you can loose. Is your phone backing up your photos and Videos to OneDrive?Your contacts, SMS, phone call log is automatically backed up into your Microsoft Account. What else?Is any SD Card present? If yes, is it your default storage for media? If yes, just remove it and keep elsewhere or backup on PC.Your apps are going for sure. But some App can store ‘app data’ in OneDrive depending on your settings.Whatsapp Chat backups is usually stored on OneDrive and SD Card. What else do you wanna backup? I guess that’s all.A restart loop can be manually diagnosed be removing SD Card and Sim Cards. If your SD card requires more electric power than the capacity of the phone, the mother board may trigger a restart.Have you performed a Soft reset? Volume Up + Volume Down + Power Button for 10 seconds or until vibration. If none of these works, I suggest you ‘factory reset’ your phone externally using the Windows Phone Recovery tools or the Nokia Recovery tool.Note: All data will be cleared. However, if you have enabled backup, SMS, contacts, Phone call log, Theme etc will auto sync once your phone has been restored and upon sighing in.If none of this method works, Spare a few bulks and get a Microsoft Lumia 650 immediately. Else, take the phone to a technician.
