Normal For A Conjested Baby

Baby rat seems congested?

I would not worry just yet. It is normal for a rat to sneeze when you first bring it home. This is because they are adjusting to the stress of a new environment. Most of my rats sneezed for the first week after I brought them home from the pet store. After that time, they got used to their new home and the sneezing stopped.

However, if the sneezing continues for over 1-2 more weeks, it could be a sign of a more serious problem. Your rat may have a respiratory infection. This is a fairly common rat illness and must be treated with antibiotics prescribed by your vet. There are also a few things you can do to make sure his condition isn't aggravated any further:
- Do not use any kind of household cleaners, scented candles, or air fresheners around him.
- If you have a a scented (glade, for example) plug-in in the wall near his cage, remove it so the fumes don't bother him.
- Keep his cage and the area around his cage as clean and dust-free as possible.

You can refer to the following articles for more info. on rat respiratory infections:

Your rat is probably just fine. Just keep an eye on him for the next week to be sure. :)
Good luck with everything!

Edit: It's good that your rat likes to lick your hand or your face. This is a sign of affection. <3

Baby congested after vaccines?

More likely she picked up a quick acting cold bug while at the doctor's or just the extra crying she did from getting the shots caused some excess congestion. Get in the bathroom, turn the shower on pure hot and let it steam the room up and sit in there with her for about 15 minutes (strip her down to just her diaper first as it will get very warm in there!). Rub some vicks on her feet and cover them with socks, the skin on the feet is tougher and won't react the same if she has sensitive skin on her chest and the menthol will absorb through the feet and help clear the congestion. You can also smear some on a small clean dishtowel, fold it in half and put it under the sheet where her head goes. The faint odor will help to keep her breathing passages open.

3 1/2 month baby sounds like he is congested, his nose?

If the doctor told you tht the baby's chest is clear, then the congestion is in his nsal passages. This is caused by sinus infection or allergies. Since the baby is so young, you really can't treat him with otc meds. You can go to walgreens or walmart and purchase some nasal saline solutions(make sure it is for babies).Put two to six drops in each nostirl and hold his head back for six to ten seconds. next, get a nasal aspirator(nose pump) and pump his nose out. He is going to scream like there is no tommorrow, but he will be able to breathe better. You can you Nasal saline solution as many times as needed throughout the day. Try to keep his nasal passage clear with this, but if he is still sounding very congested, take him back to the doctor and ask about his sinuses and allergies.Make sure you mention the crying. It may be caused by the pain of infection and need antibiotics. I hope this helps....GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS

Congested newborn- what can I do?

In order to treat a newborn’s nasal congestion, I recommend a cool mist vaporizer. The cool mist helps shrink the swelling of the nasal passages and helps the baby breathe easier. A cool mist vaporizer also helps loosen or liquefy nasal secretions which make them easier to remove. You can purchase a cool mist vaporizer at your local pharmacy or children’s supply store such as Kids R US. Make sure the vaporizer is cool mist and not warm mist. The cool mist vaporizer should be placed in the room where the baby sleeps and the stream of mist should be directed towards the baby’s nose.

The purpose of coughing is to clear and protect the airway. It is normal for a baby to cough once or twice per day in order to clear normal secretions. An infant that has frequent coughing or a worsening cough should be evaluated to rule out other conditions. If your baby is coughing in response to you putting in the saline nose drops, it could mean that you are putting in too many drops.

Make sure you are using only one drop per nostril. If you instill the drops with your baby's head slightly elevated, in a partially sitting up position your baby may cough less. It is important to make sure that your baby's head is supported at all times. You can follow this with bulb syringe suctioning twice per day if you can see mucus blocking the nostril opening.

An infant may also cough in response to an irritant. An irritant could be any odor, fume or smoke in the environment. Many babies are irritated by Vicks vapor rub. The odor may be too strong for an infant. It would be a good idea to stop using the Vicks rub and see if the cough goes away. If your baby’s cough persists he should be evaluated by your Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.

Lastly, chronic nasal congestion and cough associated with back arching, irritability, excessive hiccoughing and spitting up may be a sign of Gastroesophageal Reflux. (2) If your baby has these symptoms associated with his cough it would be a good idea to have him checked. Other symptoms that would be concerning include a fever, stridor (a high pitched inspiratory sound), a change in the sound of his cry, a honking sound with crying, irritability, difficulty sucking, a decrease in formula intake or choking with feeding. If your infant displays any of theses signs an evaluation is warranted. These may be signs of something other than normal newborn congestion.

My six month old baby gets congested in the nose at night but is fine during the day. Why is this and how can I help?

I had this problem for most of my life, as soon as I lowered my head, my sinuses would seem to close up. It wasn’t until I was about 28 and took some parasite pills to do a recommended purge that it stopped clogging me up. It turns out I had a natural tendency to shrink my sinuses when laying down had a blood pressure change in doing so, but that shrank them it did not block them. What blocked them was a low level chronic sinus infection that had never gone away with conventional treatment. Also, some parasites will aggrivate lung and sinus tissues because they can pass their eggs out that way. Since you have a baby to deal with, parasite killers would be dangerous to use. A gentle dose of thiamine in liquid form will help adults and babies to breathe better because it enhances autonomic body movements, such as breathing and intestine evacuation. Its a baby, better to be light in treatment than excessive and dangerous. I suspect your baby has my issues. Please let us know what helped your baby when its cured. I wish you all health and good luck.

5 month old has been congested since birth!?

hey... well first, i don't think it's reflux. symptoms would be a lot different. i also don't think he's lactose intolerant. the 2 can be confused a lot with eachother - both involve A LOT of puking, and if it was truly an intolerance to milk, he would not be gaining weight, and possibly losing weight.

dylan does the same thing, and has also been congested since birth. this led to 2 ear infections now because of all the extra mucous that's stored in his sinuses, (that i can never get to, the humidifiers don't help, that saline spray doesn't help, that the doctor using a special tool to clear out didn't help, etc.)

even if you don't have a family history of allergies, there may be allergies that you don't know about - allergens that you're not regularly exposed to that you may be allergic to nonetheless. dylan's pediatrician finally diagnosed him with allergies. she said many ped's won't diagnose at such a young age, but there was no explanation otherwise. he is a pukey baby, reflux they say, but only with his milk. i too wonder if he's lactose intolerant sometimes. but either way... she started him taking benadryl (1/2 teaspoon) at night. it's helped TREMENDOUSLY with his breathing!! he can actually take a bottle now without pushing it away for a breath.

the coughing remains.. a dry cough.. and his eyes get puffy and he sneezes sometimes. his skin is sensitive and will break out instantly if even someone wearing perfume comes in contact with him.

anyway... i'm thinking he may definitely have allergies. tho he can't really have any medications til 6 months... but i hope this all works out for you. keep doing what you're doing, and hopefully eventually he'll grow out of it, or be able to take something that will help him. good luck, and email me if you need anything!
