Not Sure If Infected Or Irritated

Is my monroe piercing infected or just irritated?

Like the first person said, Bactine is not good for piercings. It's too harsh and contains too many chemicals.

You are right to think it's time to change the post. When the swelling goes down, most people need to change to a shorter post in order to avoid dental damage and damage to the piercing. Please have a piercer change it to avoid further irritation and possible infection.

It sounds like your piercing is irritated, rather than infected. The irritation can come from a few things. It's not out of the ordinary. Smoking doesn't help and will probably prolong the healing, but it's not a huge deal. Just make sure you're rinsing out your mouth with bottled water after each time you smoke. You don't need to use mouth wash. Mouth wash has alcohol and perfumes in it that cause the piercing to dry out and become irritated.

I would just do sea salt swishes/soaks twice a day from now on. It's gentile enough that it won't irritate your piercing, but it will clean it. Also, you can take some ibuprofin to help with the irritation.

Good luck! :)

Industrial piercing infected or just irritated?

I got my Industrial piercing done 4 days ago and yesterday I accidently hit it against a door, don't even ask me how. I know the barbell moved a little bit, as it's longer due to it swelling. I have another industrial piercing done on the other side that has given me no problems and numerous other piercings. Today the top piercing running about halfway down to the lower piercing is completely swollen, red and warm to the touch. I see conflicting information on other yahoo answers, as well as other websites so i'm not sure if its just insanely irritated or the trauma to my ear is causing the throbbing. The first few days i cleaned it there was crusting and some blood. Yesterday and today when I cleaned it, nothing. I'm doing sea salt soaks at morning and night, and am NOT (aside the 1 time to see if it was warm, with clean hands) touching it unless i'm cleaning it. I've never had any problems with any piercings before, so it's kind of freaking me out. Any suggestions on how I should go about this would be greatly appreciated and if you think it's more so irritated or infected.

Can condoms cause any infection or irritation? are their any side effects of its prolonged use?

in the present era everything is adulterated and marketed to get addicted to a specific thing.

i have heard that certain chemicals are used in cigarettes and even in condoms to make u feel good and get accustomed too,

our present day life is based on commercial lines Rather then on natural freedom.

Ear piercing : Infection vs. Irritation. I know I am NOT allergic, so?

I just got my second holes pierced on my earlobe 3 days ago. I have been cleaning them regularly and turning them. I make sure my hands are washed before I touch them and I've been wearing my hair up so it doesn't get caught. However, on my right side, the piercing is bringing me a LOT of pain. I can't sleep on that side because it hurts so bad, and when I clean that side, it's difficult for me to press the earring up enough to clean the hole. (On the right side, I can easily push the earring up and see & clean the hole with no problem.) I'm just wondering how to tell if it is infected or not? It hurts a lot when touched and when I look up close, I can't really tell if it's red or anything, but there seems to be some dry skin around the earring itself. The part that worries me the most is that it's really hard to push the earring up and clean it. (I hope you get what I'm sayingl) If it IS just irritated, how long will it last and what can I do to stop the pain? I hope it's not infected

How do you treat an infected cartilage piercing?

Do you know it's infected? What is your evidence for it? Chances are it is simply irritated and has healing difficulties rather than being infected.Infection in piercing is a truly dangerous thing but luckily it is very rare and ALWAYS has the same symptomsGreen plasma or pus around the site or dark black tissue (not just white or yellow- White and yellow pus is a normal thing)Extreme pain (like extreme not just itchiness or soreness)Discolouring of your skin from rashes to dark purple colour appearing around not just the site but expanding away from itIf you see these signs or symptoms then yes it is infected. Go to a hospital immediately as it is life threatening. If of course you don't see these signs (and as a professional of over 6 years I never ever have) you simply have irritation and you have either misdiagnosed infection or heard that diagnosis from a friend or a professional who doesn't appreciate body modification(this is so super common)So don't fear- go see your piercer and make sure you clean it using warm mild saline and nothing more! (Maybe change your earring too)

What is the best way to treat an infected belly button piercing?

Best advice is to consult your piercer, they typically will take care of you until the piercing has fully healed.  If you can move your torso around, touch or bump the jewelry and not scream in awful pain, it is likely that it is not infected but instead, irritated.  Without seeing the piercing and discharge, I am unable to give a more clear answer.  I can tell you from my personal experience, though, that I had a genital piercing which took 9 months to fully heal.  During the healing period, I followed all after-care procedures to the letter and it became irritated three times.  It was slightly red and irritated and oozing a ton of clear/whiteish lymph.  Each of those three times, I consulted my piercer who took one look at it and immeidately said, "It's not infected, it's irritated, just continue with your aftercare and leave it alone until it heals."  On my third visit, he volunteered the information above, that if you can touch or move the jewelry without doubling over in pain, it's likely not infected.  Here is another resource for you:  How to Tell if a Piercing Is Infected
