NTU Open Source Society

What are the best student organizations or clubs to join at National Taiwan University? Why should students join them?

As the previous vice-president of the English Debate Society at NTU, I’m here to shamelessly promote the club. And feel free to check out the club’s facebook page to see when and where lectures are: 台大英文辯論社 NTU English Debate SocietyHere’s why:It’s all in English, so you will have a great opportunity to polish your English speaking and listening abilities. Even if you aren’t good at English, I’ve yet to see anyone who couldn’t sustain a 7-minute speech after a semester of training.You will improve your logic. I’ve seen newcomers debate with arguments such as “drugs should be illegal because it’s bad” without giving much considerations as to why is it bad, what kinds of drugs are bad, and why labeling it as illegal will change anything. Going to the club will allow you to learn to think critically of everything around you, and improve your own line of logic.You will make amazing friends from many different majors. Clubs are great opportunities to mingle with students with different interests, and learn from them when you debate. Because debate touches on so many different subjects from economics, psychology, politics, health, and even theoretical, it’s amazing to see how students from different majors respond to different topics and make their case.Trust me, you’ll have so much fun there!

Conducting rectangular solid with magnetic field… where did the negative come from?

I’m having trouble with this problem.

A conducting rectangular solid of dimensions dx = 5.00 m, dy = 3.00 m, and dz = 2.00m moves with constant velocity v = (20m/s)i through a uniform magnetic field B = (30 mT)j. What are the resulting a) electectric field within the solid b) potential difference across the solid

For a, I did the following

v = E/B
E = v x B
E = (20 i) x (30 x 10^-3) j
E = 600 mV k

However, the book says the answer is -600 mV k? Where did the negative come from?

Thanks!

While attending University in England do you have to wear a Uniform???

UCAS is the central administrator for applying for University courses in the UK, you can also find the relevant courses you're interested in on the site:
http://www.ucas.ac.uk/students/coursesea...

Universities tend to be secular in the UK, you will be able to find a Catholic chaplaincy attached to some Universities or a Catholic Society but good luck finding a Uni that's exclusively Catholic.

What is your aim in life? How are you planning to achieve it?

Huh ! Aims ... well there are so many of them like getting a good job  , making my parents proud , taking my mom and dad on a Cruise all on my expenses and I aim to live up to the expectations which my parents had set for me .I aim to fulfill all their dreams . I aim never to hurt my closed ones .I aim to be successful . I aim to take my  rejection positively and my failures as learning steps .I aim to always be learning, never give up, and give my absolute best .I aim to fall in love someday all over again .and aim to make people around me happy ! Don't know how many I can actually  achieve and all my life will go in aiming , securing the goals , making my family happy , sacrifices , adjustments , adapting to new environments and what not because that is what we all are expected to do . Basically there will be new aims , new choices at every stage of my life or everyday and my priorities will change so do my aims .How do I plan to Achieve ?I do not want to plot a strategy for the above listed aims , I wanna face life the way it comes to me , there's not any definite plan or solution to any problem . But most importantly I aim to live in the moment , enjoy the most of it , live at peace and I seriously aim to cherish my  passion , my childhood  love - PAINTING (I want to explore all the types Oil , Pastel , Acrylic, Fresco , Tanjore , Tempera , Enamel , Gouache and start my own blog .)Thank for the A2A Seema Shah mam .

What is NTU .how can it be converted to any other unit like ppm,%wt etc???

See the link below for a full explanation of NTU. Since the NTU is a property of the bulk fluid there is really no conversion to other measurements. Think about it this way: All different types and sizes of particles in the water can block the light passing through it. They could be big or small, dense, or light, organic, or inorganic. Each of those particles would block the light in a different way, making it impossible to do a direct conversion to a mass concentration or particle (ppm) concentration.

Hopefully that will help you out even though there is really no answer to your question.

Between IIIT Allahabad,IIIT Delhi, DTU, NSIT, DAIICT, NIT Calicut, which college should I choose for pursuing CS?

I understand your question.It is not true that IIIT-D wasn't this good in 2012 and 2013.It's just that it had a selection criteria different from other colleges.Before 2013, it used to hold a separate aptitude test. So this was often seen as a place to go when you donot make it to DTU or NSIT or the better NITs. So people with good JEE ranks didn't choose this place as they thought it'd be a waste of their ranks.Come 2013, IIIT-D decided to choose students through JEE. However they ended up taking in students from both Paper -1 and Paper -2 of JEE Mains. As a result many students got in due to their paper-II(B.Arch ranks). Again the others with good Paper-I ranks chose to stay away from it. However apparently because the batch couldn't fare too well, IIIT-D decided to take in students only from Paper -I from 2014.  All this while people knew how nice this place was but refrained from joining it due to the above reasons.Come 2014, IIIT-D joined the JAC counselling. Thus they took in students through the same way as DTU. So now the same institute became a better place in the eyes of the people. This increased the awareness amongst people of the existance of such a great college. People who wanted to apply for DTU and NSIT now came across IIIT-D. People who had wanted to study in DTU and NSIT ended up choosing IIIT-D after some research.The student quality definitely changed for the better. However most of the courses were toughened and since most subjects involved relative grading, there wasn't much of a change in the grades. In a class of 160, I've heard, some 70 students were failed in a mid semester exam of the second semester. Students thus have to work much harder to obtain the same grade.Come 2015, the institute is expecting a much better batch. Atleast now the people of Delhi are aware of the existence of this college. The institute is trying to hire better and better faculty, make its research public, increasing facilities and getting mentioned in top college rankings. I think at this point of time, it will be a wise decision for a student to join IIIT-D over DTU and NSIT CSE. I agree that the situation might not have been so a couple of years ago. With the efforts that the institute is putting in, it's name and fame is bound to grow in the coming years. Rest of the advantages of IIIT-D and other negatives of it are widely available on Quora :)
