Occupations For Best Success In Future

"Occupational Hazards: Why Military Occupations Succeed or Fail." ?

Geez, you're asking a lot from this crowd, which seems to be dominated by high schoolers and not deep thinkers- The paper, which sounds interesting and which I may read later, is highly complex and a daunting 49 pages long, with footnotes sometimes exceeding the main text.

Nonetheless, I have skimmed the thing, and your notes, so I hope I don't show my ignorance in answering this.

But so are we fools, if we give too much awe and reverence to people who claim expertise, instead of seeing that the king simply has no clothes.

First points a- c: how do you determine "genuine need" and "intent"? It seems that in the case of either success or failure you are likely to discuss need and intent in the light of the results, after the events have already taken place. As in, "I must have needed it, because it turned out to be beneficial in the long run." Or disavowing an intent once it was proven impractical to accomplish, like installing a compliant democratic government or dismantling a non-existent nuclear weapons program.

In the case of Iraq, do we really know even now what the intent of our commander in chief was at the time? There has been a lot of talk and accusations on the subject, but it's clear that Bush and company are making every effort to avoid telling everything they know for political reasons.

Second, are there any other conditions necessary for a successful occupation?

How about adequate resources to perform the task? There has been much talk about how inadequate the resources we provided were, for establishing and keeping order in Iraq.

What about the support or at least compliance of the general population? Perhaps that is covered under (b). But it seems that an external force cannot long suppress a rebellion of the majority. Keeping in mind that most successful rebellions against occupation, including the ours in 1776, have been started and led by a minority of the population, with others just swept along by events.

So I have to conclude that on the face of it this analysis is incomplete and not too valuable as a tool of statesmanship, though thought provoking as far as it goes.

just my humble opinion.

What does Future Employment Prospects mean?

Basically it's saying/asking what the outlook/opportunities for the future is/are for the position you're interested in. It could be very good, good, fair, bad, very bad, low, high, average, etc. It depends on the wording they choose. For example, the Occupational Outlook Handbook released by the US Dept of Labor says this for the "Job Outlook" for "Teachers: Self-Enrichment Education": "Employment of self-enrichment education teachers is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations, and job prospects should be favorable. New opportunities arise constantly because many of these kinds of jobs are short term and they are often held as a second job." That would be the outlook for something like a piano teacher. Hope that helps!

What five jobs would best prepare a future President of the United States for the complexity of being the nation's chief executive? How do the jobs previously and currently held by the main Democratic and Republican candidates compare with this list?

To answer your very specific question - what five jobs would prepare someone for the complexity of the Presidency - I submit this list:New York State Assemblyman. Learn to legislate - write more bills than anybody else. Publicly expose corporate and judicial corruption.North Dakota cattle rancher. Learn the land, and how the people of the Midwest live. Engage the community as a deputy sheriff. Take the lead on conservation efforts.New York City Police Commissioner. Expose and combat systemic corruption. Uphold the enforcement of the law, regardless of whether you will be popular.Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Accurately foresee that the navy will be the future force projection arm of all world powers, and prepare the nation.Lt. Colonel, United States Army. Fight for your country. Lead a volunteer regiment into battle. Charge an entrenched enemy position uphill. At this point, you'll be a war hero, a prolific and pedigreed legislator, an innovator and repairman of broken bureaucracies, and a man of the people. Just keep going, and you'll roll up Governor, Vice President, and President, along with a space on Mount Rushmore. Is being a doctor better than being a fashion designer?

I would not say one is "better" except for this:

As a doctor you can help and heal people.
As a doctor you will not struggle to support yourself.
As a doctor you will have a life long career.

As a fashion designer your career will last only if you are exceptional and relevant.
As a fashion designer you will be in a highly competitive business.
As a fashion designer you will constantly need to invest and risk capital to market your designs.

What is best for you only you can decide.
If you want security and good financial future I would humbly suggest being a good doctor would be better.
Both will no doubt be a huge commitment of time, money and hard work to achieve.
The health field is growing and dependable.

Last note. Whatever your weaknesses are there is help to get through them. Hard work and dedication will be needed for any choice you make and you must get through the difficult courses you may have challenges with to succeed.

You can only succeed if you understand that you take one day, semester, year and challenge at a time. Don't be overwhelmed with the big picture - break it down and view them as steps.
