Ocd -spending All Day Everyday Cleaning

How many people have there house clean spotless everyday?

I am a sahm and i hate cleaning! I mean hate it! But i do things cause i have to but my house is never perfect i lag on alot of things but my fiance is ok with that and my kids are always taken care of fed and clean but the house is just annoying to do. I do a full clean like once a week but other than that just pick up and wash dishes......What do you guys do?

Why do people always think OCD is just cleaning?!?

If you have OCD it isn't just cleaning obsessively. It can be as simple as arranging everything in order, counting your steps or doing something over and over again a lot such as checking a light switch, washing hands or checking the oven. It is obsessive disorder not just a cleaning problem unless you clean you house several times in a day. Good Luck J

Is washing my hair everyday a symptom of OCD?

Everyday for about 2 years now, I've felt the need to wash my hair everyday. The only time I didn't wash my hair was when I just got it cut and styled and my mom told me not to and it was the hardest thing not to do. I also make sure my bed is always clean as well as my clothes. I'm not sure if I'm just a germaphobe or I really have OCD.

Could a person have OCD even if they aren’t clean or neat?

Oh yes, definitely! I’m a great example of this.OCD isn’t just the basic compulsive behaviors you frequently hear about of individuals washing hands repeatedly or being extra organized.I’ve been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and I’m hygenic and I clean, yes. But, I don’t think anyone would describe me as the best “housekeeper”…My compulsive behavior consists of doing things in certain orders, touching things an even numbered amount of times repeatedly, facing objects certain ways till it “feels right”, having the volume up at an even number, and not skipping any of my daily rituals and ways I feel I have to complete them. Here’s a bit more detailed description of my ritual at night as an example:Lily Carter's answer to What does it feel like to have OCD?I have very specific rituals of things I feel I have to do or I get an overwhelming sense of something bad will happen. I will get nauseous if I don’t walk on the cracks of the cement a certain way, for example. I get sick to my stomach if I don’t do these things daily. I’ve tried to stop, but so far I’m unable.OCD is a daily occurrence of thoughts and rituals that must be completed. It’s hard to explain, but everything that I do in conjunction with my OCD keeps my anxiety in check. If I even think of not doing any of my compulsions, I get extremely anxious, nauseated, and scared. It’s something thousands live with everyday. And it’s very possible to live a happy life inspite of OCD. I’m a mother, girlfriend, and I’ve worked all my adult life. And most importantly I am happy!

Obsessed with cleaning or normal?

I'd like to know if this is a sign of cleanliness or obsessive.

I must have my house clean to feel totally comfortable. I like my house vacuumed daily, I mop w/ boiled water and bleach daily, cringe when I see spots on my windows and my skin crawls when I see dust.

Mind you, I'm not a weirdo who wears white gloves everywhere... I just hate seeing a dirty tub or toilet, won't use a public restroom, dont like dirty dishes in my sink and do laundry everyday. My idea of a clean house isn't just tidiness, it's clean walls, dusted corners, washed curtains, clean sheets, no litter under beds, etc. My biggest peeves are dirty bathrooms (water + germs + human waste= gross). I also throw out clothes that have stains and dont want my children (or myself or spouse) to wear anything that looks previously soiled or tattered.

So I need to know if this is normal and I'm just a clean person. Is this overboard? I want to not "over-do" things, and it's hard to know where to draw the line.

Wanting to take a shower every night?

OCD is when you want to take a shower 3 or 4 times a day and wash your hands all the time.
Sounds just like a normal habit to me.
Did your mother give you baths before going to bed when you were small?
I would rather get in bed with a clean man than a dirty one.

Is it OCD if someone showers twice a day everyday?

Twice a day is unusual but not excessive. However a therapist trained in OCD issues would make a better diagnosis. It is conceivable that the person may have just a mild fixation with cleanliness which could be part of an obsessive personality not essentially related to OCD.If the person is showering twice a day to avoid an irrationality (the sin of evil or an unlikely disease) than odds are that they may have some form of OCD that should be looked at before it deteriorates into something worse. The washing in this case becomes the compulsion designed to negate the obsession.

My mother has OCD, and it's ruining our relationship?

My mother has had OCD since I can remember but lately, it is getting worse. She cleans the house everyday (or sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.) if she does not clean everyday she will become really irritated and agitated. She yells at every simple thing (such as I forgot to dust one picture frame) and sometimes she breaks down crying while cleaning because it's not clean enough. Whenever I help her she yells, whenever I don't help her she yells. I've become more distant from her. When I tell her "that doesn't need to be cleaned, it's okay." She gets extremely mad. I notice my father and brother getting distant too and fighting with her more often. She won't get help for it. She has severe back problems caused by the constant cleaning. I'm scared one day she will seriously hurt herself. What can I do? Whenever I tell someone "my mom has OCD" they say "I wish my mom had OCD, then the house would always be clean!" It's so hard living like this. I want her to relax. I don't know what to do.
