Older Cat Urinating And Poohing Everywhere

Old cat has been pooping everywhere...?

when a cat lives to be 16 or 17 it means you've done a great job with this cat. they don't usually last that long. in people years it means your cat is about 80 years old. and much like people at that age, they can suffer from memory loss and lose some awareness of his surroundings. this is natural. as you said, it's a product of his old age. disorientation is common and may be evident in about 40% of cats from 16-20 years. you could do a little research on something called "cognitive dysfunction syndrome." it's kind of like Alzheimer's in cats. of course, some of the symptoms you've been noticing COULD be from other health problems and can be ruled out with blood tests at your vets office. if he is also peeing around the house you could look at the possibility of kidney failure. kidneys of cats appear to wear out sooner than do other organs and as a cat ages, their kidneys appear to be unable to keep up. (kidney failure is also marked by increased thirst and water intake.) what it might also be is loss of sphincter control...also due to old age. Some cases of house soiling are due to musculoskeletal problems, such as arthritis, that restrict activity. cats with difficulty getting about may be unwilling or unable to go to the litter box. If the box is on another floor, the cat may be too uncomfortable to climb the stairs. If the sides of the box are too high or if the box is on top of another piece of furniture, he may also stop using it. You might want to try several low-sided litter boxes places all around the house. that worked in my case. whatever you do, DON'T PUNISH THE CAT. scolding and yelling only produces fear and anxiety which can make the problem worse. all you can really do is clean the area well to prevent odors that might attract the cat to return to the area. it's a super bummer that he's only doing it in hard to clean areas and on your stuff but i'm sure he's not doing it on purpose.

15 Yr old cat that is pooping everywhere?

Well your assumption is right. She is an old cat so he cannot expect for her not to change her behavior. Just like human elders change behavior and pee on the bed in the middle of the night, cats pee and poop everywhere when they get old just because her senses do not work properly and are not as sharp as before.

She is losing her sense of smell big time. She is disoriented and does not even know she is doing something wrong. Indoor cats pee and poo inside the litter box and only when they have medical problems they start behaving like your friend's cat is behaving. She may have UTI due to her age or any other bladder problems. Tell him to take her to a vet as soon as possible. Senior cats start having problems that sometimes cannot be fixed if they are not addressed ahead of time and she is already showing signs of needing a vet asap.

How can I stop my older cat from peeing everywhere?

Sounds like either a UTI, or a territorial reaction to an animal outside. It really makes a difference when and where the cat is peeing.Either way, the first step is to take the cat to the vet. Most of the time, it’s due to a urinary tract issue. If the vet can’t find anything, then you can go read my full instructions for how to handle this issue. Q&A: What to Do When Kitty Stops Using the Litter BoxFor now, remember that your cat isn’t doing this to you. Whatever is going on, your cat is stressed, and you must not add to that stress by yelling or punishing them. That will set you back, and make everything worse.Good luck to you both!

After cat has been neutered he is peeing and pooping everywhere?

You should have him checked by a vet. If he does have a urinary tract problem, and these are extremely serious, it should help with his inappropriate urination. So please do call the vet and explain what has been happening.

Since he is also defecating outside the box though I think something else is going on (this is not to say he may not have a urinary tract infection or crystals). I am guessing that this is territorial marking behavior brought about by some sort of stressful change in the environment or an upsetting change in his relationship with your other cats.

Cats mark their territories. Usually healthy litter-trained cats limit their urine and feces marking to the box but still mark in other ways such as with rubbing "their" places with their facial scent glands.
Cats become very insecure when their territory is not marked.

This might be a clue to his behavior change. Since he has been neutered his testosterone (male hormone) levels have plummeted and he smells different. Perhaps even to himself. Perhaps he has been doing his facial rubbing but because he doesn't smell the same he doesn't recognize his own scent and is upping the ante with more noticeable markings - urine and feces?

What I am saying about cats, territory, and marking is correct. The rest I am guessing at.

The other possibility is that without you recognizing it, the other cats are treating him differently. His marking might be his way of sticking up for himself in what has become a less friendly social environment. If you had the other 3 fixed before him, they may not like his new, testosterone-free scent.

Or if you had them all fixed at the same time perhaps he is upset by the changed scents of the others.

What is going on with your guy is not normal and I don't recall ever having heard of it.

You should do as the others suggested with a black light, scent remover ( I recommend a product called Nature's Miracle) and a Feliway diffuser.

You can read about Feliway here, there are some good links in the site too:

Hope you will post some more questions about this and I do hope the situation is resolved quickly.

How can I stop my cats from peeing and pooping everywhere?

Cats peeing and popping all over you home is a sign that something is wrong. Domestic cats are evolved from wild animals that are both predator and prey. They have an instinctual need to hide their waste. They will use urine and feces to communicate with one another, but they are not comfortable living in a latrine. You need to figure out why the problem(s) is(are). Are all of your cats spayed or neutered? Unaltered cats often feel the need to mark their territories. Unaltered males find it more difficult to share space with one another and big pile of poo can send a powerful message.Do you have enough litterboxes? There need to be enough so that the most timid cats in the household aren't excluded from them. Put them in several different locations. Make sure you cannot see them all at once. Try to have at least one on each floor of your home. Make sure there are plenty of hiding spaces and get aways for everyone.Keep the boxes well maintained. Remember that your cats need to feel comfortable putting their feet in there. Cats like to feel clean. A box that gets a lot of traffic may need to be emptied multiple times a day.Are your cats declawed? Sometimes declawed cats will refuse to use the letterbox because they have phantom pain in their toes. The litter irritates their feet and/or they instinctively avoid a dirty box. If you think this could be a problem, try different litters AND EMPTY THE BOXES AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN. I have a blind cat who used to refuse to get into a litter box that contains ANY feces…he absolutely doesn't want that on his feet. He's learned how to manage it now, but as a kitten he would simply poop right next to the box if it already smelled like poop. Are all of your cats healthy? A cat with urinary tract issues will sometimes pee outside the box. These animals need medical attention.Once one cat starts peeing or pooping in a different spot, other cats will often go there too. The is particularly true if they find the litter boxes disgusting. Clean up thoroughly and use enzymes to eliminate the odor. Get a blacklight if you can to help locate sources of odor…. Your cats noses are much better than yours.

Himalayan Cat Pooping/Peeing EVERYWHERE!?

I have a 5 year old neutered Himalayan male cat and he is going to bathroom (poop & pee) outside the litter box. I just caught him pooping on my shirt ... he pees all over the dirty laundry, couch pillows, our beds, rugs in the bathroom, etc ... he will even go poop in front of the litter box! I've taken him to the vet and they said he's perfectly healthy. I do have other cats in the house (two Maine Coons, 1 female, 1 male, & a 1 year old tabby male) all neutered/spayed. My other cats are using the litter box, the Himalayan is the only one not using it ... We did have an older 12 year old tabby that the Himalayan didn't get along with and the tabby recently passed away 2 weeks ago and since his passing, my Himalayan has come out of hiding and is much more social, but now instead of just peeing in the basement where he was always hiding, he's peeing ALL OVER my house! I don't want to have to rehome him, but I'm at the last straw! Does anyone have any advice?? We've tried that feliway plug in's, but it doesn't seem to do much good.

Why is my cat peeing, pooping, and throwing up everywhere?

First things first : go to the vet.And another things, valid for any cat, anytime (I know this might be obvious, but still, it doesn't hurt to remind about) :*Keep its food and water bowls clean.*Keep its water fresh and clean.*Keep the litter box accessible and clean. Scoop out its feces and urine daily.*Make sure the cat takes its parasites medicines as prescribed.*Make sure you don't have plants that might be harmful to cats (Google them), chocolate, human medicines, cleaning products, etc.I'm not saying those things will cure your cat. But prevention and good habits can go a long way. All the best to you and your little friend.

Why is my 3 year old cat peeing everywhere?

I fostered and adopted this cat when she was a week old, bottle feeding and everything. I never had any problems with her, besides her dislike of other people. About a year ago, she started urinating on any clothes that were on the floor for more than a day or so, and I got her some antibiotics and dismissed it. But now it's to the point where she only occasionally uses the litter box to poo, but any other business she does anywhere and everywhere. My walls, my couches, my mirrors, my tv, my speakers, and this morning I woke up to sizzling and her walking out from behind my tv. She had peed on the power strip behind it. (Burning cat urine smells horrible!!!) I've tried antibiotics, and I don't know what else to do besides putting her outside. Unfortunately, she has some brain damage from when she was a kitten, and is a bit on the stupid side, plus we have a lot of stray dogs and other cats in our neighborhood. How can I get her to stop peeing on everything short of putting her to sleep?
