Online Friends On Yahoo

How to make friends online?

Hi,
There are many chat rooms that are available on many websites, which offer healthy chat, live chat and personal chats.
In live chat rooms you can meet as well as talk with like-minded and interesting people as they are in front and talking to you.
There are many advantages of live chats. You can easily see your online "date" live in your chat room, just like a face to face meeting.
The big advantage of live chat is that it reduces the lies about looks and age that goes a lot around in the internet chatting.

Is it Weird To Have Online Friends?

I've had online friends for more than five years now. We all met through writing or gaming online, just as people who needed someone to play with - but quickly it turned into something more and now we're all actually pretty good friends. We talk everyday.

However, my family and some of my real life friends do not think so and they were none the wiser to my online life. Until last year my online friends and I had never talked to each other vocally and then we finally decided it was time and we Skyped, even had a chat on webcam with a couple of them once. From hearing me talking in my room, my family soon realized I had friends I wasn't telling them about. Needless to say, they disapproved greatly when I told them who I was speaking to.
Since then, my family has laughed at me and teased me about my online friends. I try to keep the subject away if I can because I get so upset when they make fun of me.

Then tonight something bad happened. I spent the evening playing games and having dinner with my sisters but did not have a way to get ahold of my friend to tell her I would be online late due to my phone dying. I should have known better (my friend has some anxiety issues) and to my horror she had messaged all my sisters and my mom on Facebook asking if they could get ahold of me for her. She even got one of their phone numbers through one of my family members. The whole thing freaked out my sisters (they think everyone online is psycho and this didn't exactly change their minds) and it made me a little upset that she went to those lengths to contact me, because for the rest of the night all I heard was ridicule on me.

I love my online friends but is it really so bad have them? Why does everyone have to make fun of you for it, and force me to keep it such a secret (as best I can)?

I'm losing my only online friend?

Been there done that! I have been in the same place as you. Its not healthy. I became so consumed to talking to him I shut out the rest of the world. You have to delete him from you life. Yahh I know its really hard. Get rid of his number his facebook page everything. He is stopping you from actually finding someone who is meant for you. And if your embarrassed to tell your friends think about it. If you guys actually met and started dating and they asked how you met what would you say? It was very hard for me but in the end its what you have to do. Good luck.

Do online friends count as real friends?

I have been using a really safe/good website to make friends and ive made a few. They all live in the same country as me, we talk on the phone, msn, text, mail stuff sometimes, but i havent ever seen them, and although we do plan to meet someday im wondering if you still would consider them real friends.

On one hand i say well they are real people and we talk on the phone so that makes it more real, but then again never having met them in person mght make it just immature.

What do you think??

In your opinion, are online friends real friends?

A recent comment by a friend got me thinking about this. Detecting whether people are genuine is difficult enough in real life. It can be much harder online, since it is much easier to disguise one's identity. And yet, I believe many AV'ers have gotten to know each other in "real" life; exchanging phone numbers, and so on. I personally know people who have met in chat rooms, become pen pals, and become "real life" friends. And one couple I know met online, got married, and have a child. From my own experience, and extrapolating from the experience of others, I believe that it is possible to make "real" friends online, but that it takes a slightly different set of skills, and perhaps more caution.

But I'm curious to hear about your experiences. What do you think? How real are online friends? What does your experience tell you? In what ways are online friends different than "real life" friends? Looking forward to the discussion.

What do you think of making friends over the internet?

@Joshms: My opinion? Well, I think you and all my other contacts are proof that I have *no* problem with making friends with people on the internet. Just as you have no idea if the person you're talking to on the internet is a crazy murderer, you have no idea if the person living across the street from you is a murderer as well. Does that mean you should completely avoid any confrontations with every human in the world by the chance that they might want to hurt you? I know all about "stranger danger", but I think I've made pretty certain on a lot of you guys that you are who you say you are.

And I'm not careless either, though. There *have* been people I've met online that I've been creeped out by and blocked. Onetime some guy on formspring asked for a picture of me, someone I'd never seen before, so I blocked him and deleted his question question.

How to make internet friends?

I know this sounds like a weird question, but where can you make internet friends? And it's not like I don't have any real friends, but I just need someone new (my school's really small) to talk to.
Thanks, and I'm a teenager, so please don't give me any uber sketchy sites...

How many of you miss Yahoo chat rooms and the fun/friends that it offered?

I so miss them :(Earlier times when I was in high school, forwarding gmails and Yahoo mails was one of our favourite hobbies. :) And yes, then we chatted in the yahoo chat room and some of my friends only handled google accounts. So, I had to chat with them in G-chat of course. When I heard that both of these are going to take down, I was so sad. I did not want to let go of them because of the memories I had with them.I found that there were new chatting apps coming up. But, I really miss them. \

Are your internet friends, your best friends?

i love you too hun! <3

EDIT: and yes i do believe some of these people on here can be my best friends. i hope to meet them one day <3
