How do braces with elastics fix an open bite ?

the pressure created from the band will help pull the teeth into the correct bite - just the same as people who have bands for other bite problems.
i wish i was as lucky and you and were able to only get braces to fix my open bite they want to do surgery too

What will elastics do with braces?

The elastics help your bite to become correct and finish off straightening your teeth. I wore them on and off over my 3 years and nine months of braces (I had really crooked teeth). Some people wear them for several months to a years, and others only weeks; it just depends on how bad your bite is. Good luck! Hopefully you will get those braces off soon, make sure to wear the elastics as your orthodontist has told you to.

Will braces fix an open bite?

Hi Jordan,
Yes, braces will close an open bite, but that is the easy part.
An open bite is usually caused by some abnormal force that pushes the teeth apart and creates an opening between the teeth. Forces like the habit of sucking your thumb or a tongue thrust habit.
The orthodontist should warn you that unless the habit is stopped permanently, you can create the open bite again once the braces come off.
There are therapy exercises that are helpful in stopping the undesireable habits.
Talk to your dentist or orthodontist about it.
Good luck and I hope this answers your question.

Should a patient still in braces start wearing elastics top canine to bottom canine once a retainer is bonded to all 6 lower teeth?

In order to close an anterior open bite, I do the following: I have the patient in her final wire. I place power chain on the upper front Six and the lower front six. Then we clip the wire so the upper and lower front six can move independently from the other teeth. Then the patient wears elastics from the canine to the canine on both sides. This will close a slightly open bite. There are others ways to close bites, depending on the severity.

Who's had braces for their (anterior) open bite? need advice!?

A lot depends on the type of open bite you have. If it's a dental open bite(from thumb/finger sucking or tongue thrust mostly) not a big deal, but if it's a skeletal open bite those are much harder to correct. They usually have to be done with a surgical procedure.
But if it's just dental, a word of advice is to wear your rubber band as directed by your orthodontist. As far as it "hurting" there will be some discomfort in the beginning, as with anyone who gets braces on. Soft foods and some ibuprofen will be fine for the first couple of days. And in the end be sure to wear your retainers. I can't stress that enough. Once your openbite is closed, as long as your wear your retainers, it won't go back.

Does anyone have braces and wear elastics with a box shape in the front?

I have braces and now wear elastic band in the shape of a box in the front of my teeth. What is the purpose of this? I do have an open bite but dont see how a box shape can fix the problem. I've seen how elastics are worn differently but havent seen any box shape images for the front teeth.

What is it like having an open bite and then getting braces?

Ur open bite will be cotrectef that way only. You will be asked to wear elastics in box frame bracing ur upper and lower tooth if bite is wide open.

How long does it take to correct a deep bite with elastics?

It depends on several factors…for instance, if it is a skeletal deep bite, caused by abnormal jaw growth, it will be more difficult to correct, vs. a dental deep bite, caused by tooth positioning. Also, each and every patient is a different biological entity, their response time differs from patient to patient. The age of the patient is another variable…younger individuals tend to respond quicker than older adults. However, the one thing that is predictable…patients that wear their elastics 24/7, including eating, will always correct faster and more completely than those who are inconsistent, if they correct at all!
