Open Source Canada IT Solutions

What are the best open source human resource (HRIS/HRIM) systems out there? I’m looking to manage employees and compliance for a small startup that won’t be too costly.

I am developer of MixERP. So, I invite your to try MixERP HRM which is free and open source. We even have a hosted demo site for you to see if you like it.Not absolutely required though, but if you feel you must need commercial support, we have discounts for startups and nonprofits. The payroll module of MixERP is available in commercial edition. If your business is USA-based, you're lucky because MixERP payroll supports:Salary tax based on filing status, income brackets, standard deduction, and personal exemption.Employment taxes: Social Security & Medicare.Pension plans.Absent-day deduction and overtime addition.Non taxable salary component (if any).Custom deductions such as employee loan, subscription, etc.

Which is better GIS solution for counties and state governments "Open source GIS or Commercial GIS"?

90% of the city, state and government offices depend on Commercial GIS platform. ESRI’s ArcGIS is the most widely used commercial GIS Solution because of its spread on multiple platforms like Desktop, Enterprise, Cloud, Online. In fact, its the leader in GIS solutions. This is better because of its flexibility and capability to work on multiple issues for the city like managing utility network, parking management, trash collection, tax assessment, crime monitoring and many more. However, if we are tight on budget and wanted to make something opensource we can go with QGIS, Grass GIS, Post GIS Database. The open source GIS requires zero cost, but however they cannot provide high level mapping capabilities and support on multiple platforms.

Find the pOH of the solution.?

In the simulation, open the Custom mode. The beaker will be filled to the 0.50 L mark with a neutral solution. Set the pH to 2.25 by using the green arrows adjacent to the pH value indicated on the probe in the solution. Once you adjust the pH, note the corresponding OH− ion concentration in M as given in the graphic on the left side of the simulation. Make sure to select the option "Concentration (mol/L)" above the graphic.

Consequences and Solutions to an Open Ground?

What are the potential consequences of an open ground in a 3 pronged outlet? I guess the most important consequence would be a huge reduction in personal safety. The frame of appliances and other devices have the third grounding wire in order to provide a path to ground in case there becomes a short to ground. This is for your personal protection. I will want that current to go to ground through the grounding wire instead of through me.

Is there an easy way to ground the outlet? Well, since you are not particularly interested in running wires to the panel, then there is an alternative. Install a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). Even though the receptacle will not have a ground wire for protection, you will still have very good protection from shock hazards. The National Electrical Code allows this too. See Code 406.3(D)(3)(b). Where no grounding means exists in the receptacle enclosure, a GFCI receptacle can replace the old receptacle. The code will require you to label the receptacle with a label saying, "No Equipment Ground". NEC 406.3(D)(3)(b).

How does it work? The GFCI monitors the current in both the black wire and the white wire. The current is suppose to be exactly the same in both wires at all times. If ever there is a difference in current between the two wires (black and white) reaching levels where you could feel a shock, the GFCI will trip.

The neat thing is, you can use one GFCI receptacle in the first outlet, and it can protect any and all receptacles "down stream." You can replace two prong receptacles with regular 3 prong receptacles that are down stream, and mark them as "GFCI Protected." You must include a label that says "No Equipment Ground" for these receptacles as well. See NEC 406.3(D)(3)(c).

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Which is the best free/open source SMS gateway?

Sending free SMS from the Internet isn’t a new idea at all and companies have been developing the bridge between email and SMS for years. By now it’s a simple and easy service to set up and companies have started adding these services as a feature to bring in eyeballs. Here's a list of 4 such services that I know of: 1). TeleFlip: TeleFlip has always been a favorite way to send “free” texts via email: ‘phone number’@teleflip.com. They still offer that service which they now call FlipOut, but they are also trying to turn their technology into a working business. I haven’t been able to test the new service yet, which is supposed to be out sometime this month, but they say it forwards your emails to your SMS inbox for free.  Hopefully they have a good management tool, as email spam can fill an SMS inbox pretty quickly and receiving text fees still apply.2). Peekamo: Founded just November 2006 and based in Toronto according to their web site, Peekamo says they are different than other web-based SMS free sites, as both the receiver and sender don’t pay for the message. How do they manage that? — they say ad-sponsored messages, and using a protocol called short message peer to peer, (unlike the more common email-SMS method). When I sent a message from the web site to myself, it was sponsored by Sharp. It’s still in beta, but is adding other social features.3). Gizmo SMS: SIPphone has more than its fair share of sweet mobile services like the Gizmo Project. The service works for dozens of countries and has a model ‘terms of service’ and privacy assurance sections. It’s not rocket science, but shows how these services are easy enough to create that they can be used to market the company’s other money-making solutions.4). Your carrier!? Yes, its true, some carriers have some limited web-to SMS and email to SMS services. On Verizon Wireless site you can send a text to a Verizon wireless cell phone user, and send an SMS via email to “verizon wireless phone number”@vtext.com. They still get some money the more times people text using most solutions, so why not get more people to text their customers.

How do different solutions effect the open/close of stomata?

Stomata's opening and closing is regulated by calcium and sodium ions.See when you use hypotonic solution it means that solution is less conc.than stoamats so what happens is proton pumps H+ in guard cells, this results in influx of potassium ions and now because conc. of ions in stomatas are more than hypotonic medium, turgar pressure increase ,water comes in and u get open stomatas. In case of hypertonic solution abscissic acid is produced in cells which results in influx of calcium ions and loss of potassium ions and u get closed stomatas. So remamber when stomatas are open, that means condition is hypotonic and there is influx of potassium ions ,when stomatas are closed ,conditions is hypertonic/water deficient ,calcium ions goes in,potassium ions goes out.abscissic acid which was produced under hypertonic conditions is named because it means surrounding environment outside the cell is water deficient.

Is there an open source platform that I can use to build a banking app such as Simple Bank?

There are many layers to what Simple does. At a high level here are several:Provide "brochure information" about their companyAcquire new customersPrint, emboss and mail cards to customersService customers (show balance, transaction list, etc.)A smartphone app with corresponding server-side apiA customer service operationTransaction processing, responding to the "Can I charge $5 to this account from this merchant" which involves not just balance checks but also velocity tests.Reporting based on the transaction processing for compliance and business management purposesYou can use open source software to build many of these pieces. You can also outsource the elements to third party organizations. I would suggest learning about the overall process to see which steps are easiest or hardest (both from a code perspective and business/regulation perspective). At that point you'll be in a better position to decide whether to build the item and whether it should be closed, open source or completely outsourced to an existing provider.

Explain the effect of sugar solution on the opening or closing of the stomata?

Stomata are open when the guard cells that surround them are turgid, meaning they have absorbed water to increase their interior pressure. When a sugar solution is placed around these guard cells artificially, it has the effect of changing the osmotic pressure, causing water to diffuse outward from the guard cells, lowering their interior pressure and causing the stomata to close. This mimics the changes in sugar concentration in guard cells when the cells are exposed to sunlight and produce sugar by photosynthesis. Higher sugar concentrations inside the guard cells draws water into the cells by osmosis, causing the cells to swell and thus causing the stomata to open. All of this allows more diffusion of gases through the stomata into and from the interior of a plant leaf during the photosynthetic process.

I accidently left my contact solution bottle open! Safe to use?

most contact solution is merely saline. unless it was in an area where there is a possibility for splash contamination (ie next to the john, soaps, etc) i'd say your good.

test it. shake it (to make sure it's all evenly mixed) then pour some in a clear container. if you see floaties then it's no good. a film ontop (different colors, a smokey look) would also be a negative. otherwise just try next time to keep it closed ; )
