Stay with the childish nns to keep his name from having two different styles. Jayce Ben Jayce Charlie Jayce Davey Jayce Greg Jayce Mike Jayce Ron Jayce Tommy Jayce Will You'd be doing your son a favor if you gave him a more formal name like Jason and kept the childish Jayce as an informal nn. Then you could give him an empowering name instead of a childishly embarrassing name. That way he won't have to spend a lifetime saying it's just Jayce, not Jason. In Shadowhunters, why does Jace have the same name as Clary's brother?
In the books, Jace believes he is called Jonathan Christopher and so tells the Lightwood family so when he joins the New York institute. However he only believes this based on what he read in Valentine's journals, not knowing about the existence of the real Jonathan Christopher aka Sebastian, he assumed Valentine was referring to him. Valentine didn't bother correcting him because it worked out well for him if Jace believed he was truly his son. Jonathan is a common shadowhunter name so when Jace appears saying he is Jonathan Christoper Wayland Mayris just thinks that maybe Michael Wayland did name his son the same as Valentines and doesn't really question it much.Shadowhunters the tv show has done a little differently with them reading the journals later and him recognising that there's two Jonathans. But ultimately there is Jace (Jonathan Herondale) and Sebastian (Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern) with basically the same name because Valentine is a shitty father and it was convenient for them to be named the same so everyone thinks they're the same person. Hence why when Sebastian crops up using a different name and face no one questions it.

How powerful is Jace Herondale from Shadowhunters?
Pretty powerful; but in my opinion not as powerful as Clary. He is very strong, very fast; his blood makes him above the average Shadowhunter. His skills rely mostly on his physical abilities, which makes him a great warrior. But unlike Clary, he can’t create new runes or anything like that, so he’s a little less powerful (that said, Clary does not have enhanced physical abilities, so I suppose it depends what you consider powerful). Are Jace and Clary from the Mortal Instruments series really brother and sister?

Jace is not Jonathan Christoper Wayland, as he believed, but Jonathan Christoper Morgenstern. By this point in the story, Hodge had revealed to Clary that Valentine was her father, but she had no clue about Jace. She, like Luke and Jocelyn (her mother), believe Jonathan Morgenstern to be dead.City of Ashes is basically a huge angst-fest for Clary and Jace. Due to the fact that they are siblings and in love, it just makes them both pretty miserable.It isn't until the end of City of Glass that the whole mess is sorted out. Jace, as it turns out, is not Jonathan Christoper Wayland or Jonathan Christoper Mogenstern. Instead, he is Jonathan Christoper Herondale, the son of Valentine's right-hand man Stephan Herondale and his wife Cecile. Valentine raised Jace because he had experimented with Jace's blood while Cecile was pregnant. Instead of the usual amount of angel blood most Shadowhunters possess, Jace had more. Jace was designed to be the perfect foil to Valentine's blood son, Jonathan Christoper Morgenstern, who had survived. In City of Glass, the younger Morgenstern is introduced as Sebastian, and that is what he goes by for the rest of the series.
