Magdalena, opinions please?
I love it! I've recently added it to my name list as a middle name for Isobel/Belle. It's traditional, elegant and very striking. It's a more unusual alternative to Madeleine, which is lovely too, but much more common. I really like Magdalene as well. I'm not so keen on any of the nicknames though, which is partly why I prefer it as a middle name. Lena is quite sweet, but I'm not fond of Maggie or Magda.

pron. Mar-lay-na, not mar-lee-na. I really like it but i feel like it's one of those names that everyone would think "why the hell would you ever name your kid something like that?". What do you think? I'm not pregnant by the way, just planning ahead.
Is the name Magdalena an ugly name?
I never know how I feel about the name Magdalena. On one hand, I love it- it's beautiful and elegant and classic. Though I'm not typically a fan of using nicknames, Lena is super cute as well. However, there's something about the name that draws me back from REALLY loving it. I can't quite pinpoint what it is, though. I do think the name could work for the right people and the right kid, but I just can't see myself ever having a little "Magdalena" running around, you know? Remember: it isn't up to us. Ultimately it is you and your partner's choice. If you love a name, go for it. Don't let strangers on the internet sway your opinion.

How do you say the name Magdalen in your language?
In Czech (central Europe), we have Magdalena or Magda, Majda (pronounciation in English similar to “mayda” ) and possibly Lena but I never heard my friend would be called like this in a short way:) In a very familiar way or if it is a little girl, you can also say Majduška (pronounciation similar to “maydushka”, sorry, I don’t know the special characters using in transcript of pronunciation:D) So at least you get a rough picture of the pronunciation of this name in our language:)My friend’s a Cypriot/Czech and she has 3 her names, first two are Maria Magdalena:)

Aww, I LOVE Magdalene! It's such a beautiful and underused name. I love Magdalena also, but slightly prefer Magdalene. Why is Magdalena a popular name despite it having a negative connotation in the Bible, unlike Mary, for instance?
You are obviously confused about the contents if sacred scripture. There is nothing derogatory said of Mary of Magdalene in scripture. The closest thing to being negative is that it is said that Jesus removed 7 demons from her. However from that point on she was a dedicated disciple and a companion of the Blessed Mother.What negative connotations are you referringvto.?
