Opinions On This Triplet Set

How would one most concisely refer to two of a complete (all three) set of triplets?

I'm struggling to come up with a context in which this arises without use of names. The reason is that by referring to two, it means you're excluding the third for some reason, and it begs the question, what's the reason. You cannot address that without naming the third, so that backs you into naming the other two.The only context is perhaps immediately post-delivery, before they are named. Something like:“Are these two twins?”“No, they are a pair of the Jones triplets.”

What does it mean to have a set of twins and a triplet of which I pick the twins because they are healthier?

Your question is unclear. Are you pregnant with triplets and one is unhealthy?Alternatively…Are you pregnant with triplets, two of whom are identical, and the third triplet is unhealthy? Also…Are you considering selective reduction of the unhealthy triplet? Are you looking for parents who have gone through the process of selective reduction?Or maybe…Have these children already been born, and you must give one up for some reason, say money, and you think it would be better in the long run to give up the child with health issues?I’m sure others would have more interpretations of your question. In any case, rephrasing your question might result in some answers.

What do you call one of a set of triplets if one dies?

If it comes up in conversation, the survivors are still triplets. The death of one does not negate their circumstance of birth, or their closeness and love for each other. I'm not sure how it would be a conversation starter. People that know the trio, know the circumstance. If asked, I'm sure it would go something like this, " I'm a surviving triplet" or "I lost one of my triplet sisters" or "Yes, I'm a triplet, but one has passed." Speaking only from my experience with my own girls, death wouldn't erase anything.

Do you have to put "3" above every single set of triplets in a song?

Unless you're the only person using the score and that you're confident that you'll remember its a triplet by putting an asterisk or something, unfortunately you must every time.Without the “3” it's just a set of 3 crotchets, or 3 quavers and so on. As you don't group these notes in 3’s unless the piece is in say “6/8” or some compound time signatures, in common time this would be incorrect. This said, if the bar is exactly the same as the one that precedes it, you could just use a measure repeat symbol which looks like this:This will let the performer know that you play the exact measure again.Hope this helps!Feel free to shout if you need to know anything else!Image source: Finale.

Has there ever been a set of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) where one baby had to be delivered significantly earlier than his/her siblings?

When I was younger (probably like 7 years old) I watched a true story/documentary on two sisters that grew up together and lived a few blocks away from eachother almost their whole lives and they didn't even know they was sisters. Until one girl who knew she was adopted and found out who her birth mother was while the other girl had found out she was adopted and saw she has the same birth mother as her friend. It turns out the girls was twins born 5 whole months apart. The story was so compelling to mmee it stocked with me all these years. I'd never known twins could be born on different days. But this story is decades old, the girls in the story I watch was elderly when they showed what they looked like today. There's been newer reports on twins being born on different days.

Math: There are 1 set of triplets, what is the probability of all being boys?

There is a 1/2 chance of being a boy, and 1/2 chance of being a girl.

1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8 for all being boys. To figure these out, ask yourself the chance for each thing to happen individually, then multiply them all together.

Above poster, ALL the possibilities are BBB, BBG, BGB, BGG, GBB, GBG, GGB, GGG. So, like I said, 1/8 chance.

And then, obviously there are 6 possiblities of 8 for at least 1 boy and 1 girl.

If triplets are born and one dies after being born, do the remaining two call each other twins or triplets?

They are then surviving triplets, and if there is one survivor, he is a surviving triplet, singular.Their brother or sister definitely existed, was born, so they are triplets always.Similarly, if an elderly twin dies, the surviving sibling at 85 is not then not a twin any more.
