Is Veterinarian a good career?

I'm 18 years old in 12th grade and my dad is a doctor and makes $250k per year and she also wants me to make a doctor but I hate people, they are evil and hurt animals, I don't want to help people, I want to help the innocent creatures (animals). I really hate people and it's the reason why I started training martial arts 2 years ago so no one will mess with me. My dad said that a vet lives on a low payment and it's not a good career and I should go for medicine.
What's your opinion?

Is acting a good career for me?

It's not what guys feel you should be doing. It's what you feel you should be doing as a career. I don't think that acting is for you. If acting was really what you wanted to do you would feel it in your heart, mind and soul. If acting was really want you wanted to do then you wouldn't be asking strangers what they thought. The question is, do you love acting or would you prefer to do something else. If you feel that acting would be a great career of you, then go for it. Our opinion doesn’t really matter. It's what you want to do that matters.

What is a good career choice if I absolutely love giving people advice (when wanted) and the people that receive my advice say that I am quite good at it?

Thank you for asking your question “What is a good career choice if I absolutely love giving people advice (when wanted) and the people that receive my advice say that I am quite good at it?”The best jobs for advice require a bit of credibility and with credibility comes either experience or education or both. I am unaware of your background so it would be difficult to say for sure what jobs/careers/occupation would best suit you.Generally, you can either be a “life” coach (http://www.lifecoaching.com/page...) where you assist in the transitioning of an individual from one phase of life to another. .This kind of position only requires training by professional or trade groups Counseling psychologists (source: http://www.apa.org/ed/graduate/s...) counsel people from all walks of life and in all aspects of their life. This normally requires a minimum of a master’s degree if not a doctorate. The aforementioned two are not meant to be exclusive. There are many more.

Is becoming a Locomotive Engineer a good career?

Regardless of what Nerd says I don't agree. We aren't easily replaceable. The job is tougher than it looks to an outside person. I'm not going to go into everything involving running a train, but there is a lot of things that need to be learned. It can be stressful for some people to do. And no matter how good you are at it there will be times of high stress. If you don't think it's stressful cramming a 9,000 foot long train into a siding that's 9,100 foot long, on a 2% percent grade, in a snowstorm where you can't see the rail in front of you, then your tougher than I am! As for pay I think it pays pretty good. The average engineer makes between 75,000 to 100,000 a year depending on how much you work. But we aren't overpaid. We earn every dime in my opinion. But I still like my job a lot. I must because I've been doing it for 39 years. Also as far as the money goes, yes there are jobs that pay much more but there's much more to happiness in life than money. I'd much rather work at a job I loved for less money than one that paid great but made me miserable.
Edit You guys thinking that it looks like an easy job are mistaken. It's not physically hard but it can be mentally tough. Some guys can't hack the lifestyle. Not knowing if your going to work at 3 am or 3 pm from day to day can be tough on you. Plus some guys never become what I call good engineers. Anybody can learn to run a train, but not all of them can learn to be really good at it. The newer technology such as DPU helps some guys look better than they actually are. And many new engineers aren't as well trained in quality train handling as many of the older guys were. If there were still cabooses at the rear I think we'd be seeing more injuries than there used to be. Nothing improved some guys train handling like having a crabby old head conductor call them from the rear and chew their azz out over the radio lol.

Is forensic scientist or CSI a good career choice?

My opinion may be a little biased, but in my mind Forensic Science is one of the best career paths you can go down.

I'm not sure who gave you the information about the money not being overly grand, but where I live Forensic Scientists are among the highest paid Science based roles in the country.

Having said that, no amount of money makes up for some of the things Forensic Scientists have to deal with.

If I were you I'd track down someone working near where you live that is currently working in the field you'd like to get into. Ask them as many questions as you can think of about the job, getting the job, what's involved in doing the job etc.

The people doing the job are the best source of information. Use them as an invaluable resource.

Good luck and I hope this helps you a little.

Read my nursing entrance essay and give me your thoughts/opinions.?

Every thing I have done in my life, I have worked very hard for it. This program will be no exception. First, I will keep God at my side at all times. With Him all things are possible. Further more, I will continue to be confident in myself and work hard at everything I do to allow me to be very successful in this nursing program.

Life it self throws many curves at you, but it is up to you to get through them. With this program there will be many curves and obstacles as well, but I will preserver and come out on top.

Once I become a nurse, I plan to continue to be dedicated and sincere, but also very nurturing. These are just two of the many qualities that I feel a good nurse should posses. Having these qualities will not only allow you to succeed in nursing but in life as well.

Nursing is a fulfillment in life for me. It is a reward that I have been given and I can’t wait to be able to give back what I have been so blessed to have.

Please share thoughts and ideas!

"If you are good at something, never do it for free." What is your opinion on the Joker's quotation from The Dark Knight?

I like it, but then, I seem to have read it a different way than most people.I think the emphasis on money in the answers so far is misplaced. Remember, when the Joker actually got the money he asked for alongside that line, he then burned it - so I don't think money was what the Joker was getting at.The meaning I got out of Joker's line was more like:"Don't let others take advantage of your passion for a thing - you'll sell yourself short."If you're good at something that people want done, and willing to do it for free...then you're going to do it for free. This may not be bad in terms of you getting to do the thing you love, but it is selling yourself short - and you never know how much that opportunity cost was, until you reach some opportunity you can't afford.Anyone needs some means to get by. If you do the things you're good at for free, then you need to rely on something else to get by - presumably something you're not good at.It's easy to see why that's a poor idea (no pun intended). There's also the fact that Joker's line, in context, has an additional, specific meaning - remember what his line is the answer to: Mafioso Sal Maroni asking him why Joker hasn't killed Batman yet, if it's so easy.In that context, his response has - I think - a clear implied meaning:"I didn't do it for free yet, because I know you need me to do it more than I need to do it."I think that's actually good advice. At a previous job, I was a subject matter expert on a number of systems and became a crucial part of many processes - too many, and too crucial (the corporate term is "key person dependency issue", as in "it's an issue that we have to depend so much on this key person"). I was about to transition into the next step in my career, and I had assumed that I would just stay where I was - they wanted to keep me, after all. When I got the (expected) glowing job offer, I had a private chat with my manager-and-friend about it. His caution to me was: "Of course they want you. I know you're good, they know you're good, we know what you're good at. That's not what's important here. The question is, do you want them?"The truth was, I hadn't thought about that. I was just happy and flattered to get a job offer and keep working.I was good at something. And my manager was cautioning me not to forget to watch out for myself, when selling that around. That seems like fine advice to me.
