Orthodontist Told Me To

Should i trust my orthodontist?

my friends told me not to trust the the time my orthodontist gives me to get my braces off....my orthodontist told me i would be getting my braces off in august.
and its july, then she told me the latest i would get them off would be october.
and im afraid that october will roll around and she will tell me i get them off in a few more months.
i really dont know what to think.

My orthodontist told me to double up my elastics after a week of wearing them?

im kinda confused because some of my friends have had braces and their orthodontist never told them to double up on the elastics, but a week ago today i went for my visit and the lady told me to double them up after a week's wear. I've had elastics before but they gave me a month's break and now i'm back on them. What should I do? I'm not so sure if I should double up because i heard stories that it can mess up your jaw or something like that. thanks!

Is it normal that my orthodontist only told me to wear my retainers at night, immediately after getting my braces off?

You should always follow the advice of your orthodontist. They know your teeth and what’s best for your treatment. Most people have a lot of work done to their teeth, so they need to wear a retainer 24/7 in the first few months. Some people only need to wear it a night. Every person is different. Be sure to wear it every night and continue brushing and flossing daily. If in doubt, ring your orthodontist and ask them about it, they will be more than happy to assist with your queries.

My orthodontist told me to only wear my retainer at night?

It's because your teeth don't move as much.

I've got a retainer, and I have to wear it all day and night (except while eating), because if I take it out for a while my teeth move out of place and leave a gap.

The Orthodontist must think your teeth aren't moving very much when you don't wear it, and don't see the need for you to have it in all day.

Orthodontist told me to wear rubber bands on only my left side of my mouth. Would it matter if I put it on both sides?

You need to follow the instructions from the orthodontist.
If s/he said only one side, then that's what you do.
Wearing rubber bands on both sides when you're not supposed to can make your teeth move incorrectly and lengthen the time you spend in braces.

Really confused about what my orthodontist told me about eating with a retainer?

You can eat with a retainer, but you'll have to clean it more often, and food can get stuck in it and that's pretty gross.

Don't wear it when you eat. The only times you should take it out is when you're eating or cleaning it.

Don't forget to wear it when you sleep. Your teeth can shift in just a few hours if you don't.

My orthodontist told me I would be getting my braces off in a month or so, but they still need lots of improvement. What do I do?

If you still have all this things to improve, for sure you need more time than just one month..Sometimes we have to take the braces off before finishing the treatment when a person have a severe case of periodontal (gum) disease for exemple.. or sometimes you have a big discrepancy between your maxilla and mandible and you can only improve your treatment with a surgery..Even if you have or don't have one of this problems your orthodontist MUST explain to you what is happening, so I advise you to talk and be sincere with him, tell him you are not satisfied by the treatment and ask him why he wants to take it off now if your teeth aren't even straight yet.. maybe there is a reason for that?!So as I said, you have to ask him why he is taking it off early if clearly you need more time with the braces..If he doesn't answer you straight away I recomend you to go to another orthodontist to have a second opinion.

My orthodontist told me not to wear my rubber bands anymore?

I wear rubber bands to fix my over bite and now after wearing them for awhile it has been fixed but my orthodontist told me not to wear them anymore for the whole month. Wouldn't that just make my jaw move back to where it used to be? It's been a day since I came from my appointment and I can tell that my jaw has moved back a little bit. This doesn't make any sense. Help?

I recently got a retainer. The orthodontist told me to wear it 24 hours a day for 2 months. Is it okay if I only wear it 16 hours a day?

It is probably ok. You are doing better than many of my patients, who claimed to wear their retainers 24/7 when they weren't wearing them at all, or for just a few hours a day. However, if you can wear the retainer for 16 hours a day, why not 24? I don't understand. It is hard to wear it for 16 hours, so how much harder can it be for 24?Having said all that, 16 hours is probably good enough, but 24 is better. You will soon get used to wearing the retainer. Just give it a chance.
