Other Than The Web What Apps Or Programs Can You Animated .gif Files

What is the best program to create professional animated GIFs?

I am a user of all Adobe products since their creation and I can say I have been asking this same question for this modern age of a Flash free web. Flash GIF exports suffer same bloated file sizes as Photoshop and using After Effects is overkill. What I think you are asking for is professional timeline editor tool that  Photoshop and Flash  have but that publish lean file sizes like Fireworks. Look at the following  example. Clearly this was created with a timeline using keyframes with an FPS that is more fluid with easing interpolation.Problem is it's 329kb which makes me conclude that it was done in Photoshop Timeline.  It's inefficient to have to go from Photoshop to Fireworks (being that its sunsetted) for something so simple. So I am testing this site. The workflow would be from Photoshop to saving Gif to Optimizer. I also plan to test this from Flash  and compare sizes.Optimize Animated GIF

Do mobile game developers use GIF images for their animations?

Hey, I know this one!If you're thinking you can create an animated GIF and then just pop it into your game you're not super correct. So, creating a GIF requires you to animate an otherwise static image as does animating a game spite. When you create an animated sprite for a game you have to create each individual frame of the animation as a seperate image. This is actually easier than you'd think. There are plenty of programs that support what's called "onion skinning." Onion skinning is the act of creating additional frames in an animation while being able to see what's coming before or after. It comes from using thin paper when hand drawing animations. If you're dealing with pixel art I like GraphicsGale (http://www.humanbalance.net/gale...) but some people worship at the altar of Adobe.Once you've drawn all the frames of your animation you need to arrange them in a regular grid (a regular grid is easier to code around) on a single image. This is what's refered to as a sprite sheet. Then, when you go to code your game, you'll need to code an animation function into your animated game objects' class. If you're unfamiliar with OOP (object oriented programming) then I suggest learning a bit about that before attempting to build a game and/or app. If you're familiar then I don't think I need to explain what I mean by function and class. If you're using an IDE (integrated development environment) that has a GUI (graphical user interface) such as Game Maker Studio this process is different. I know from personal experience that in Game Maker Studio you can upload each frame of an animation seperately and use the GUI to animate them without making an animation function. As for game animations, if you're looking to get into it, I'd suggest looking into making a really good walk cycle. So many games have some sort of humanoid character that needs to walk, run, crawl, jump, etc. Those animation cycles need to be ingrained in your brain if you want to be a game animator. As for file formats, that really depends on your IDE. When dealing with pixel art the preferred format is almost always PNG. I can't even think of a time I used anything other than PNG for sprites. There is one time I remember being on a team and someone insisted on using TARGA files. Generally though, you'll be safe with PNGs.

How long can a GIF animate? Are there any time restrictions on a GIF? Can I have a 3-minute long GIF?

Really interesting question. I have thought about this myself a few times but was never prompted to search on it, until now.I found this link - Two Finnish Artists Created the Longest GIF in the World That Will Play for 1000 YearsBut this doesn’t help much because it changes images after every 10 minutes . . so its more of a kill joy personally :PHowever, what this article does prove is that GIFs can be animated for an infinite amount of time (if you can manage it) and it simply depends on the maker. If you are making GIFs for public consumption then you should be aware that most people can stay engaged for only a few seconds (Goldfish attention span generation I tell you)With that, I’ll just share one of the longest GIFs I saw and remembered about. Enjoy! It just satisfies the childhood me who always wanted to finish Snake :D

Adobe Photoshop 7: Doesn't open GIF files with many frames?

If you have Adobe Phostoshop 7.0 - it's ancient - it couldn't open GIFs for animating - you would have needed to use Image Ready which came with the software.

That version of Photoshop never had an animation window or a timeline. It's out-dated - defunct, dead as a dodo.

Modern versions of Photoshop - CS6 and Elements 11 can both open animated GIFs for editing.

The video frames import option is only available in Photoshop CS6 Extended (and previously Cs4 and CS5) which costs $999 - or if you get Photoshop CS6 as a single app on the Adobe Creative Cloud, then it also supports motion content editing ($20 per month) including importing video frames.

Image Ready now no longer forms part of Adobe's modern creative suite - all the functionality of that program was added to Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended.

Even GIMP the free image editor can open animated GIFs for editing http://www.gimp.org - for video import you also need to add the GAP (GIMP Animation Package) plugin which is also free http://photocomix-resources.deviantart.c...

How do I use .gif files as my desktop icons?

You can convert them in .ico using any software like irfan view .. but you will not be able to see the animation what you can see as in GIF ..

there are some software which keep changing icon and giving an illusion of animated icon , but they utilize a lot of memory.

If you just want to create icon from gif file then Irfan View is the perfect tool .. its also free ..

How do you change GIF animation speed using GIMP?

Okay, I've looked literally everywhere on the web but no information has helped me to solve this problem. I tried the "Save As" thing but when i saw the options they were hollowed out only leaving the "GIF Comment" and "Interlace" check boxes un-hollowed. And i really need to know how to change the speed for this GIF animation using GIMP.
