What do "just out of curiosity" and "for the sake of curiosity" mean?
I have always assumed it meant something one investigates because they have a want, not a need, to know about something. Sometimes it is used as a ruse to elicit information you are not comfortable asking outright. Barbara Walters said she always complimented men she did not know at a dinner or interview by asking if his tie was chosen by his wife - she did not come directly out and ask if he were married but she actually did - his response might lead him to say it was a gift from a child, chosen by the wife, picked by a stylist, or many other possible answers but usually people answer directly and would either say it was or it was not and he might elaborate if he were a widoer or divorced to include that information so she coyly asked one question but might have acquired much more information.Sometimes it is an opening of a conversation or an ice-breaker such a: “Just out of curiosity, how many people here have birthdays in November?” Then it could become more defined and people react when someone shares their birthday or the birthday of a relative. The person beginning the question may have no interest in when their birthdays are but it affords a moment of surprise and harmless sharing of information.

Just out of curiosity has anybody been through something like this? if so please help!? Back in 2000 i was 18 and got arrested for shopliffing, fingerprinted and all that stuff, the value of the stuff was less than $60, i was originally charged with petty laceny which is a misdemenor in NYS, then after paying the fine, completing a shoplifitng court ordered class, i got the charge reduced to a disorgery conduct, which in NY is a violation, just like a ticket, jay walking, etc... i just got a job at a nursing home as a cna and they run an fbi backround check, and i know it will come up, i am currently already working, but my fingerprints results have not come back yet, can they fire me for this in my past, even though i was NOT CONVICTED of shoplifting, but got convicted of a disorderly conduct? help me please!

little boy, even if he's an adult now like my mother does? I'm an 18 year old Mexican-American male and I have a Mexican(Native-Born immigrant of course) that still does treats me like a little boy even when I told her I'm old enough now to figure things out and do certain things by myself(but I do tell her that appreciate what she's doing for me). For instance, my mom still lends me money(for food and gas even when I work but pay partly for my college), makes breakfast for me a couple of times and follows me to my doctor's appointments(when she doesn't have to, lol). I'm no mama's boy, my mom just so happens to be like this towards me(but not to my older sisters for some reason). I guess it's because not only that I'm her youngest child but also because I'm the only boy child of hers. Idk if it's a Native-Born Latina thing or just with most foreigner mothers.
