Over Reach Carrier Send Signal Regarding

What is the difference between Baseband and Broad band signalling?

Baseband signals are not carried by a carrier wave.

What kinda wifi signal does the Mars rover use?

It uses traditional radio wave signals via the orbiting satellite on Mars, I know wifi is wireless connection, of course it uses it but the term 'wifi' is not used in astronomy.

So your second question:
The reason why radio signals can reach a billion miles away in space is simple, space is empty. It has no matters like air to interfere with the signal, therefore it can reach as far as it can.
In your basement to first floor, the radio signals will have a hard time reaching you. Its because the thick wall and celling interferes with the signal. Even some thick metals can block radio waves, thats why in lifts you lose connection.

Even a high powered radio waves can be block by a very thick wall or a wall of metal, and they are very expensive due to the fact that they consume lots of power, so wifi and ethernets use low powered signals.

An FM signal modulated by 3KHz sine wave reaches max frequency 100.02Mhz & min frequency 99.98Mhz?

1. the carrier swing is 100.02 - 99.98 = .04 Megahertz or 40,000 hertz
2. the carrier frequency is the sum of 100.02 + 99.98 = 200 Megahertz divided by 2, or 100 Megahertz
3. the frequency deviation is half the carrier swing 20,000 hertz
4. the modulation index is the frequency deviation divided by the modulation frequency
20,000 hertz/3,000 hertz= 6.67

What type of signals does a radio wave and microwave send?

What type of signals does a radio wave and microwave send? Analogue or digital? or both?
Also, I am confused with the topic electricity.
I have this rough idea in my head, but not sure if it is right. Am I right?

Optical fibres, coaxial cable, copper wire, mircrowave and radio wave are all the telecommunication components that are used to transmit information.
The information is first in form of sound, visual data, etc. In order to for the information to reach our house, the information is converted into a type of electromagnetic wave, this process is called modulation.
The waves can send messages by varying their amplitude (AM), or frequency (FM).
Waves are then further converted into electrical pulse and pulses of lasers IF THEY ARE SENT DOWN WIRES (optical fibre, copper wire, coxial cable)

If waves are sent by mirco or radio wave, they keep the information in wave form keep and doesn't need to be converted into laser or electrical pulses. The messages are sent by either sattelite, repeater staion and base station.

The messages can sent in 2 ways, digital signals and analogue signals. Different telecommunication components use different ways (either analogue or digital) to sent information.

All telecommunication components (eg. microwave, coxial cable,etc..) can send both AM and FM waves.

10 POINTS! What is the difference between AM and FM radio transmission?

AM (amplitude modulation) carriers alter in amplitude to mimic the audio being sent. The carrier signal frequency doesn't alter.

FM (frequency modulation) carriers alter in frequency to mimic the audio being sent. The carrier signal amplitude doesn't alter.

Receivers of either type are designed to detect those changes which are applied to the carrier signal to retrieve the audio signal.

Can a digital signal be transmitted through air?

Actually strictly speaking NO!.

A digital signal is merely a 1 or zero. On or off. An electrical digital signal is either high or low (Usually somewhere around 0 volt for low and around 3- 5 volt for high). Those will not travel when put on an antenna. *

Usually we use an analog carrier to encode these high and lows by amplitude modulation of the carrier wave (AM) or the frequency modulation of the carrier wave (FM). With the help of error correcting algorithms we can transmit digital information quite reliably.
Instead of an analog radio, one can use infra red or visible light (arguably still a radio signal), sound, gravitational waves. These are still carriers thought.

* Part of a digital signals will actually become "air born" when put directly on the antenna at high frequencies. However the decoding of these signals is extremely difficult (thought the CIA has tried)
