Packard Bell Easynote Laptop Fan Always Running

Why is my laptop fan running even when I do nothing?

My work computer did this when I first got it. It was set in the performance mode in power settings which does reduce the CPU/graphics speed when not in use. The laptop is usually not designed for the heavy load continuously without the fan. It get worse like the other replies, when it performs overhead tasks, especially virus scans, defragmentation, updates, etc. Set the power setting to a lower setting, you don't need the high performance when you are reading or idling.

My laptop keeps turning itself off without warning....?

Is it overheating?

Laptop overheating has become a more common problem in recent years as both the CPU chips and the video chips in laptop computers have become more densely packed with transistors, all of which generate heat. With both CPUs and graphic systems generating more heat, laptops can overheat if they are not properly designed or if ventilation and cooling is interfered with. The problem is compounded when manufacturers put desktop components in mobile systems, or when laptop design does not properly provide for laptop cooling under foreseeable normal use of the systems.

Laptop overheating most commonly signals itself by sudden, otherwise unexplained shutdown of an operating computer. If your laptop computer suddenly shuts down for no known reason, there is a high likelihood that the fail safe software in the computer is shutting it down when the computer temperature gets too high. Other signs of overheating notebook computers include constant or excessive fan operation, unexplained memory or operation errors, and inexplicable “blue screens of death.”

The problem often arises when you are using your computer intensively in ways that keep the CPU operating at high capacity and the hard drive and video systems busy as well. Gaming often leads to laptop overheating. Virus scans, compiling software and similar intensive tasks can also bring on the problem. The problem also, not surprisingly, sometimes occurs when the temperatures are high in the setting where the laptop is being used.

The consequences of overheating laptops can be quite serious. Your computer can be damaged, and may end up requiring expensive replacement of major system components, such as motherboards or graphic cards. In addition, medical researchers have reported health issues ranging from sterility to burned genitalia related to use of overheated laptops by fully clothed users.

If you have an overheating laptop and your computer is still under warranty, you should promptly report the problem to the manufacturer and seek their help. Because many manufacturers seem to engage in denial rather than cures with regard to this particular problem, you should also read the information on laptop overheating on this and related sites so you can better understand the causes, the consequences and the possible cures for notebook computer overheating.

Why does my laptop fan run constantly?

Laptop Fan keeps running from the moment you Turn On the Laptop. The main purpose of fan is to cool the electronic Parts inside the Laptop to prevent the overheat. You may realize the sound of fan when your system gets hanged or while Playing High Graphic games. The Laptop fan sucks air from Outside ( Room Temperature), cools the system and the hot air is pushed out via the the Fan Vent, which if you take a closer look, you can see that it has a heat sink and filters to shoot the hot air out, and also preventing dust to get in through the vents to the system. Also, always give proper air intake space for Laptop, like, if you keep on a flat Table its okay, but if you try to keep on a bed, then you can realize the Laptop becoming extremely HOT, because there is no room for Air Intake.

How long should a laptop last?

I’m curious for those who are giving dates for laptops or components: where does your data come from? I am skeptical about some of the answers.I currently have an Acer laptop that is 6 years old:One of its USB ports does not work.A few keys on the keyboard don't work (within the last year), so I just use an external keyboard.I have seen no indication that the hard drive or any component is about to fail. The DVD drive works fine.I had Windows 7(? I don't know) and various Linux distributions installed and have almost always used Linux. I haven't had Windows on this computer for at least a year.I have 3 extra monitors, two 17" and one 19" that are about 12 years old that work perfectly fine.My last laptop, a Gateway, lasted me about 5 years. I used to travel with it a lot more than my current laptop (e.g. carrying it to university on the subway)c.I have been stunned by reading some responses on similar forums where people say their laptops, on average, only last like 3 years. I can see replacing laptops every 3 years, but only lasting 3 years?cI have used my current, 6 year old laptop almost everyday since I bought it. I often have it on for days at a time, downloading media from the internet. No bad hard drive sectors. No new noises. Screen still works. No indication that a major component is starting to fail.Using Linux, I never run into the all too common problem of PCs with Windows operating system getting slower and slower with time.I think a lot of it is how it is used. I rarely push the CPU to the limits, for example, so overheating has essentially never happened. I do move it around sometimes, but have a good leather case for it and treat it well.

What causes a laptop fan to constantly run?

There could be a number of reasons for the laptop fan running continuously:It could be designed to do so by defaultBad thermal sensor (computer thinks it's overheating when it's not). Check the processor temperature with a software applicationYou are running some heavy duty programs that are raising the processor temperature too muchYou have disabled some of the processor power savings modes, that are used to save power. These are usually enabled/disabled in the BIOSThe air vents inside your laptop are clogged, so not enough air is moving too cool it Some other component in your computer is overheating, i.e. Graphics chip, display, or hard disk. These could be adding to the overall heatThe fan profile is set to aggressive instead of low noise

Do laptops normally make noise?

Whenever a laptop makes a noise, it’s usually because of the fan that’s used to cool it down. It’s characterized by a constant whizzing inside the machine that is accompanied by hot air that would typically come out from an air vent.To answer your question, no. Laptops usually aren’t supposed to be completely silent simply because of the logistics of the device. In order to ensure that the fragile components inside the machine aren’t fried because of overheating, the fan will almost invariably begin to start working. If anything, it should serve as reassurance that your device won’t die on you too easily. That being said, there are a few notable exceptions to this. The biggest one I can think of is is this laptop:This laptop is so thin because it has no fan, but there are problems with this. The biggest issue I’d find with it is that the processing power of it is deliberately low to ensure it won’t get fried. If you find that the constant noise is bothersome, then there are a few ways to resolve this problem.-Avoid using applications that require a lot of processing power, such as games.-Don’t put the laptop on your lap. Leaving it on a table would favor natural circulation as opposed to the one made by the fan.-Put your device on power-saving mode. This will mean that your machine will be a bit slower(Often hard to notice), but it will also reduce the noise output.-Use your laptop in colder areas of your house, such as near windows, and avoid direct contact with sunlight.Again, I want to assure you that the noise isn’t a big deal, and that there are no real consequences of the fan working for a long time.

Will adding more ram make less heat?

Adding RAM will not cool your laptop down. The two major sources of heat in a laptop are the processor & the graphics chip/card (if it even has one). Be sure that the fan is working & there is no lint/dust blocking either the intake or exhaust grilles. If there is, clean it w/a small toothbrush & vacuum cleaner.

Never place the laptop on a soft surface, like your bed or a blanket, while it is in use as this will block airflow & cause it to overheat.

You can purchase a laptop cooling unit that provides additional cooling. I've given you a link to TigerDirect.com which sells them.
