Pain From Wisdom Teeth Removal

How painful is a wisdom teeth removal?

It' a almost painless but probably a time consuming procedure. The population at large have misconceptions about keeping these teeth in mouth despite being in abnormal position. Even the dentists don't motivate and educate their patients to get them removed if they are not in normal functional position due to various professional reasons but the fact is that it's a vestigial organ and must be extracted if at abnormal position. Please get them extracted from a trained Maxillofacial surgeon

Jaw pain a month after wisdom teeth removal?

Almost a month ago I got my wisdom teeth out. The extraction itself went without a hitch, and some of the worst pain I had was from having my mouth cranked open to do the procedure. The lower right side of my face swelled and bruised much more than the other side, but I was back to eating completely normally within a week. A week and a half later, I got a dry socket in my lower right socket. The oral surgeon packed it, etc. and I saw them a few times for that. People say that dry sockets are excruciating, but mine wasn't all that bad.

On Monday, they took x-rays, cleaned out all the medication that was in the socket, told me I was healing very well, and sent me on my way. They said it might be a little sore, but it felt great. On Thursday, all of a sudden, things changed. I noticed that my lower right jaw was hurting quite a bit and was swelling a little. The area is very tender, but I don't think it's red or warm.

I'm wondering what's going on. Suddenly, the range of motion in my jaw has decreased significantly and I can't chew on that side of my mouth again. It feels like a deep bruise.

According to the thermometer, I don't have a fever, but I feel as though I have one, and my stomach started hurting a few hours after my jaw started.

So, what gives? Do I have a virus, and my jaw is just a lingering effect of the dry socket? Or might I have a bone infection, and my pain tolerance is high?

How can I get rid of pain after my wisdom teeth were removed?

I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree with the advice concerning analgesics.First off. If you've had all four removed in sitting, you're going to be hurting somewhat. How bad? Well, not so much from the holes in your jaw where your wisdom teeth used to be. No there are a good number of different muscles back there which help open, close, and move your jaw from side to side (and forward and back, too!) Those will have almost certainly suffered some bruising, and since it's almost impossible to keep your jaw still, they will contribute most of your post-op misery. If you've had all four wisdom teeth removed at the same time, your dentist will have sent you home with prescribed medication. This will typically include a an antibiotic, an anti-inflammatory drug, and an analgesic. If you live in the USA your analgesic will likely be a sledgehammer opiate like Vicodin … and good luck in not getting addicted, because it'll do little to lessen your post-operative discomfort. If you've got a sensible dentist, you'll have been prescribed a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen (paracetamol). These WILL do the trick. They are not supposed to take away all of the “pain”; if they did you would be hammering your sore muscles 24 hours a day and making things worse, not better. In short: it's supposed to be uncomfortable. If you choose to be a wuss and wallow in that and call it unbearable pain the only person you're hurting is you. The strongest pain killers are addictive, and using them will almost certainly extend your recovery (from 2 to 5 days) and therefore extend the time you're using the powerful painkillers and thereby increasing your risk of addiction.Side note. NO SMOKING FOR SEVEN DAYS! There's a bonus here. If you get to 7 days, you've given up. Don't start again.Alcohol? Not if your medication tells you not to (you read the label, I hope!) Otherwise I give you permission to enjoy a small can of beer or a small glass of wine once per day. If think you need more than that you're better off abstaining for the duration.

Wisdom teeth removal now neck/back pain?

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me (is still happening to me) and i had my wisdom teeth removed 6 weeks ago, ive been going for massages, accupuncture, and physical therapy. I also went back to my dentist and he made me a night gaurd (its a plastic cover you wear on your teeth at night) that prevents you from clenching your teeth, because after an extracion, all your muscles are tender and can easily strained from when your face was sore. all the doctors/dentists and therapists are telling me we just need to find a way to keep the muscles relaxed so we are doing all these things. I suggest you go back to your dentist as well, and PAY ATTENTION to your teeth during the day and when you wake up, and try to notice if you are clenching your teeth. If you are, you will not heal until you stop it and your dentist can help you do that. Also try your best to keep a good posture, dont slouch or sit akwardly. Do gentle stretches and keep HEAT on your face and neck most importantly (I know your face doesnt hurt, but all this is a result of the facial and neck muscles gone wrong) and you can keep heat on your back too. Take hot bathes, go swimming, it helps muscles alot. If you want to make your own heat pack, take a tube sock (a long sock, or even a normal one if you want) fill it up with rice as much as you want, tie the end and you can microwave it for about 60 seconds, or until hot and you have your own heat pack, ive been using my home made one for weeks
Im still a little tense after all this and it hasnt completely gone away yet (sometimes i even have sore arms and lower back) but its alot better then before
Good Luck, I really hope you get over this. I hate it so much ughh. If you have any good experiences with it in the future, or if it went away for you, feel free to send me a messege and let me know.

Pain opening mouth after wisdom teeth removal?

Yes, this is normal. Its been about 2 and a half weeks since I got mine out and my jaw still hurts when I open it too wide. Also mine pops outta place kind of if I open too wide too.It is fromt hem opening your mouth so wide when they did ur surgery.Everyone has this pain at one time or another.I was swollen for a good week or so after mine was done. One of your teeth on one sides was probably more impacted than the other side.Thats how mine was..my right side was way worse and your was worse on the left side so that is probably why it is hurting worse. Mine is still not healing properly yet from the trama of the tooth coming out. My cheeks are still hurting too. Its all normal my Rx said. :-) Hope I helped.

2 1/2 months after wisdom tooth removal pain?

Sounds like partial bone fragments working their way out. Take anti imflamitory/pain reliever. I would suggest ibuprofen or something for female cramping. The splinters are working their way out of the dense tissue. You may have a slight infection and doctor can give you anti biotics to take the infection down and then pain meds for pain!

Try rinsing with saltwater and mouthwash. if you see the bone pieces coming out try leaving it alone!
Go to the dentist who extracted yours and take their advice!

How painful is getting your wisdom teeth removed?

I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth (one of them impacted) removed and I want to know what to expect. How painful is it going to be, how long will it last, what will I be able to eat. Also I'm 17 if that helps.

Which is more painful: tonsillectomy or wisdom teeth removal?

sorry to say but you can't even compare the 2.
the wisdom teeth are like a walk in the park as compare to a tonsillectomy.
for me anyway after my wisdom teeth were out it hurt for all of a day. and then was just a little sore for a couple more day.

a tonsillectomy has a much longer recovery time (usually 10 days).
the first couple of days it hurts a little but you can pretty much function normally. then once the scabs start to form it hurts more and more and the pain meds stop working as well. i'd say day 4, 5, 6, and 7 were the worst as far as pain goes.
the thing i couldn't handle was the limited menu options. i'm not a big water, gatoraid, jello, apple juice, popsicles kind of person and thats all you can eat for the first 3 days. after that you can add things like apple sauce, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, baked beans..... pretty much anything really soft and mushy.
it just gets sooooooo boring after a few days that you just want to be bad and eat a cheeseburger.

the scabs will fall off between day 8-12. and after that you'll feel back to normal.
you go in for a check up 10 days after the surgery and if all looks good you can start eating pretty much normal again with the exception of chips, pretzels, and using a straw. those things have to wait aonther 10 days or so.

i don't have a good tolarence for pain but i survived so don't worry you will get through it.

good luck.

Is it normal to have stomach pain after having wisdom teeth removed?

Is it normal to be sick to your stomach after having wisdom teeth removed?
I had all four wisdom teeth removed ten days ago ... and I've been sick to my stomach since the fifth day after. It hurts when food or drinks hit my stomach. Its not the pain medicine making my nauseous because I haven taken any. Plus the oxicodine only put me to sleep when I took it, it didnt make me sick. I tried the motrin a day ago and once the pill hit my stomach I felt like I was getting stabbed. Water is the only think that wont make my stomach hurt. Today I still couldnt really eat, and my stomach is churning. Is this normal? I've seen a few other post with others experiencing the same thing but no real answers... Its it the dissolvable stitches? The taste was horrible the first week... My doctor claims he hasnt heard of such thing (why are other people asking the same question online then?!) HELP IT HURTS.
