Pain Under My Left Rib

Pain under ribs?

It sounds like a small pneumothorax. Pneumothorax is when air gets in between your lungs and your rib cage. It affects mostly tall thin men, especially smokers. But it can happen to anyone.

If you had a bad cough or took a strong punch to the chest, that could cause it. The change in air preasure during the plane ride could also trigger it. It can also happen spontaneously, (called a spontaneous pneumothorax(scary)).

It is detected with an xray of the chest. If this was indeed your affliction, it may have been to small to be detected. Treatment is generally only needed when the lung collapses more than 25%. It involves inserting a tube into your chest through your ribcage, to allow the trapped air to escape.

I have personally experienced a spontaneous 10% collapse of one lung. It was very painfull.

Sharp pain under lower left ribs?

The area under my lower left ribs, toward my back, hurts so bad that even just breathing is excruciating. It has gotten so bad that if I even roll over in my bed, the pain literally makes me cry, and the crying makes it hurt worse, which makes me cry more, which turns it into a vicious cycle. Moving even the slightest bit causes me extreme pain

Any ideas of what this could be?

Sharp pain under left side of rib?

I had a severe burning stabbing pain, that started from the left side, just under the ribs and it radiated up through my chest and back and to my shoulder. This is the second time it's happened in a month...I'm thinking it has something to do with the food I'm eating. I was fine and then an hour later it hit. As with the first time this happened. I thought I was having a heart attack, and the pain was so severe I almost had my s.o. call an ambulance.
After this all happened I got a severe case of acid reflux, and pressure and slight burning below my sternum....
I have diabetes and ibs....would any of this be related, and where could I look to do more research.
I intend on calling the doctor first thing in the morning, I just want to ease...or at least try to, ease my mind until then.

Pain by top of left ribs under breast?

There are numerous possibilities, ranging from a Muscular/Skeletal pain to something like Angina. Any Chest Pain is supposed to be considered a Medical Emergency, just so that anything serious can be ruled out. The fact that it is on the left side does put it within proximity of the Heart, however it could still be something minor. You know better than I what your risk factors are for Cardiac issues such as Age, Weight, whether or not you are a Smoker, Diet and things of this nature so obviously you should use your best judgement in this scenario. Again, whenever you are unsure about something like this it is in your best interest to get checked out at a Hospital or Urgent Care Facility.

Your stomach is located in that area, so you may be having indigestion, or something that needs further medical attention (like an ulcer or gastritis). If it is really troublesome, it’s best to see a physician.Pay attention to what increases the gas pain (if it happens in relation to eating any food or doing any activity), what makes it better, and any other digestive symptoms such as vomiting, bloatedness, and changes in bowel movement. Your doctor will want to know about these.

Lots of important organs live under the left side of your ribs…Spleen - Filters out old red blood cells, and stores white blood cells and platelets;Pancreas - Produces insulin to help regulate blood sugar, and also secretes enzymes into the intestines to promote digestion;Stomach - Your primary digestive organ that breaks down ingested nutrients and prepares for further processing in the intestinal tracts;1/3 of your Liver - Removes toxins from blood and helps manage blood composition (glucose, proteins, fat);Small Intestine - Further digestion of food, and absorption of nutrients and minerals;Transverse Colon - Food is in its final digestive stages where the last of the water and nutrients are removed as it becomes feces.Your body has a built-in protective barrier for the vital organs (especially the spleen!!!), while the abdominals and quadratus lumborum muscles can protect the intestines.Cool stuff, right??

Pain under the left part of the rib cage is always related to structures here, spleen, stomach. it could be due to pericarditis, aneurism of abdominal aorta, spleen disorders or even as a result of torn muscles. basing on your question, pain comes after eating and that is, filling the stomach. note that the stomach is on the left side of the abdomen and just bellow the diaphragm.i will think of acidosis, and thats due to indigestion as a result of overfeeding. but any lession on the diaphragm or stomach could produce the same effect. also, aneurism of abdominal aorta, painful especially when pressed on.
