Parakeet Help Clipped Wings And Loving

Does petsmart clip parakeet wings?

Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't. Make sure the person doing it, knows for sure what they are doing first. I have had the best and worst wing clippings come out of Petsmart.

How often do you clip your parakeets wings and if you get two parakeets do they ignore you?

i wanted to clip their wings regularly when i got my own birds, but decided against it when i realized that it wouldn't be easy for them to come out of the cage and hang out if they couldn't fly and get back into their cage, so i didn't clip them anymore after the first time they were clipped.

but if you really want to clip their wings, get the wings clipped after they molt. parakeets usually molt in the beginning of spring when the weather starts to get warm, and then again when the weather starts to get cold. you'll notice when there seems to be a large amount of feathers everywhere! it's a silly thing to see. you might be able to see some feathers growing in on your birds, too. after the molt is finished, you can look at the bird's wings and see if the long (but clipped) flight feathers are long again.

they won't exactly ignore you if they're in a pair, but they will be more inclined to hang out with each other rather than with you, since they consider each other their flock. try to do things with both of them and not with just the one that likes to come out--maybe if you can, put the one that likes to come out on your shoulder, and the one that doesn't like to come out might follow the first one, because they are flock buddies :)

it takes patience to tame a stubborn bird! don't ever yell at or grab the bird. stay patient and calm and talk to him in a happy voice, and he'll eventually start to like you. take it slow, because developing a trusting bond between owner and bird takes time!

have fun :3

Will taking my budgie to get his wings clipped make him hate me?

of course i wont be doing it so will he hate me if i take him to get his wings clipped by someone else? also i heard when they have their wings they are more independent and not want to be around you, and when they have no wings they will depend on you and love you more and want to play more is this true. please help thank you!

Were Alex the Parrot's wings clipped?

It would be much appreciated if you could provide us with an image so we could tell whether or not if his wings were clipped.  Then figuring it out would be a breeze. If a bird's wings are clipped, it means the primary flight feathers of the bird's wings have been cut off.  Now, it's not the entire primary flight feather that has been cut off, nor is it all of the flight feathers cut off.  You should leave a few still there so your parrot can glide if it falls, lessening the risk of injury.  It seems you may already know, but the purpose of clipping a bird's wings is to prohibit them from catching altitude, therefore disabling their ability to fly. This is a bird's wings that have not been clipped:As you can see, the primary flight feathers are still there. ^^This is a bird's wings that have been clipped:As you can see, the primary flight feathers are MISSING.  ^^^^^^^^Also, please do your research on parrots.  I would really appreciate it, and your parrot would too.Warning:  Inexperienced bird handlers should under no circumstances forcefully clip their bird's wings.  An experienced professional should be the only one to handle your bird in the means of clipping their wings.  Take your bird to a professional and see how they do it.  Please, learn the difference between blood feathers and normal feathers.  Research all you can before you ever try to clip your bird's wings, and know how to handle one!

Is clipping a bird's wings painful for it?

There is no physical pain while clipping a bird. Some birds are even trained to participate in wing clipping:But for many birds, this could be a psychologically painful and traumatic experience. Furthermore, the stress can indirectly harm them physically by weakening their immune system. They have to be towelled or grabbed as they try to escape the scissors. This cockatiel being clipped is screaming:Many parrots desperately try to escape during the process:It’s not uncommon for a previously flighted parrot to sink into depression after being clipped, which can also induce a lack of appetite. Though, some parrots seem to recover within 24 hours after being clipped, others can take weeks. Before clipping your parrot, please consider whether or not you can bird-proof your home. And if clipping is mandatory for your situation, try to train your bird to voluntarily participate, like the cockatoo above, so that the process is not scary for your bird.

I bought two parakeets from Petsmart and they clipped the birds wings but...?

I bought two parakeets from Petsmart and they clipped the birds wings but they did not clip them well enough. The birds are really frightened so I don't want to take them from their cage just yet. They (the people at Petsmart) seem to have left the first feather on each of one birds wings which is strange to me cause I have 3 other parakeets who were not cut the same. Does anyone have any tips on what I should do? I could re-trim them myself but I am afraid to cut a blood wing. (I have never had birds before.) Please don't say don't trim their wings because I have a different opinion and it wont change no matter what you say.

Why does my parakeet flap her wings rapidly?

No, your bird isnt getting ready to die. Did you have his wings clipped not too long ago? If so, his wings are probably growing back and he is trying to see if he can fly around. I have an African Grey and he does that ALL the time after he gets his wings clipped. I hope this helps and good luck!

Can i put my parakeet outside?

Keep them in the cage and put some twist ties on the doors, just in case.
Keep them in the shade and look for signs of heat stroke. 82 might be pretty warm. If they start to pant or hold their wings apart from their body, give them a misting with a spray bottle and move them somewhere cooler.
Stay with them for the whole time and keep an eye out for predators, such as feral cats and birds of prey. They have been known to attack pet birds that are in cages.
