Parked Car Was Hit Don

I hit a parked car and ignored it. What now?

I hit a parked Dodge Grand Caravan in the grocery store parking lot, where I work two days ago. I was trying to fit into the space between it and another car, and when i backed out after realizing I couldn't fit, my right front bumper scraped part of their rear left bumper. I am terrified of driving as it is, I have bad luck with it, so I panicked. The only one who saw was a coworker of mine, who convinced me the damage to their vehicle wasn't serious enough to report (took some of the black paint off, but that's it).

I was already running late for work, so I parked in a different spot and went inside. Eventually that car left the lot. It weighed down on my conscience the entire time. I freaked out (I am only 18 and it's my parents' car, plus they pay for the insurance). There was a little damage to mine but I said a shopping cart hit it, because I didn't want my parents to be mad. That does not mean it was right to ignore the fact that i hit the car without leaving my information. It was an accident, and I should have owned up to it, but I didn't.

Guys, I have no criminal record of any kind. I've had one accident (I was not at fault) and two traffic tickets before this, but nothing more serious. I go to college, all A's, I have a job, I'm a good kid, and I don't want to get in serious trouble. I've been crying for hours. I'm terrified that the owner will file a report and I will be caught. I don't even know if our little store has CCTV, but it doesn't matter. I'm so scared. What do I do now, even though it's been almost two days since this happened?

What do i do if a police car hits my parked car.?

Do the exact same thing you would do if anyone else hit you. Notify your insurance company. In today's world NOBODY does anything about the damages,. Your insurance Company pays you (less the deductible, of course) and then the litigate against the city's insurance company to recover the money. It doesn't matter if it was a Police car, fire truck, trash truck or school bus.

My car was hit while parked and I don't have a drivers license. What can I do?

My first question before I answer: Where's the car now?If it is drivable, then take it home, driving only in the daytime and taking backstreets and alleys if there are any. Do NOT get on a busy main road or the highway unless you want to get pulled over. If it's not drivable, then cough the money to call a tow truck (or have it towed if that's part of your insurance policy) and have it taken to a shop.I would strongly advise that you not try to file an insurance claim, either before you move it or afterward. You don't have a license and you'll probably need a police report for the insurance company's records. Guess how things will go when you call the police and they come out to write a report? Not too good for you. Frankly, you are going to have to eat the costs of the repairs yourself or as Christopher Hawk noted scrap the vehicle. If you do call the police, then I would first make certain that you THOROUGHLY go through the vehicle and make certain that there is nothing in it that can cause you problems. If there is, throw it away; do NOT try to hide to come back for it later, or on your person. If you cannot afford to get the vehicle repaired and you don't owe any money on it (if you owe money, you need to contact your lienholder before they find out the hard way) I would strongly advise you to get the vehicle to someplace like your home or the driveway of a relative or a friend. If you leave it where it is, it will get towed by the municipality where it's located and you'll probably be unable to afford to get it back. You know that this is a mess. Hopefully, you also know that you need to clean it up and quickly and quietly as possible. Also, I'm not certain why you don't have a license, but you cannot risk driving until you obtain one. If cannot obtain a license due to a suspension or it being revoked, you can no longer drive, period. You are risking arrest and the impounding of any vehicle that you are operating at the time.

What should I do if my car was hit while parked?

Not too long ago this happened to my wife twice within a short period of time. The first time was in Toronto, in a cramped parking lot. My wife came out of a store to find someone had driven into our car and then left. This store had cameras on the lot, and she convinced the store manager to review the video, and you could see someone drove into the lot, basically drove right into our car, backed up and left. But it was blurry and you couldn’t make out the car’s license plate, so even though we provided the video to police they couldn’t do anything with it. Because we didn’t have details on the other vehicle we had to pay our collision deductible, but it’s treated as a not-at-fault collision. The second time was in Charlottetown, someone probably making an illegal U-turn smashed into our parked car quite badly, and also left. This happened about a month after we just repaired the previous collision, and again we couldn’t identify the driver. We had to pay the deductible again for insurance to pay for the collision, and although it was still treated as a not-at-fault collision I got a letter from the insurance company not long after saying that although our rates were staying the same they were increasing our deductible. I don’t think they’re actually allowed to do that, but we were already in the process of changing insurance companies for unrelated reasons. In both cases (this applies to insurance in Ontario, Canada) as long as you report the collision to police within 24 hours, your insurance company will treat it as a not-at-fault collision although this is the odd case where you have to pay the deductible for a not-at-fault collision. My adjuster told me at the time that if they had enough information to follow up with the other driver’s insurance that they would waive the deductible, but we didn’t have that in either case. I don’t know what happens if you don’t report within 24 hours, but I expect it costs you a lot more.EDIT: spelling

Hit a parked car, left to park and then came back?

When parallel parking I bumped the car behind me. I don't think I hit it very hard, but the alarm went off. Some people saw me. I left to park somewhere my car would fit better. And when I came back (within 5 mins) I left a note w/ my info. But the alarm was turned off so I think the owner must have returned before me. Is it considered a hit and run if I leave my info after leaving? I live in Washington state, by the way.

Hit and run parked car in california......?

Why would you turn yourself in? It's unlikely the owner of the other car would have gone to the cops, unless they have your license plate and in that case, you would know by now.

If something like that happens, just stop and leave a note under the wipers, you know. Often it's almost nothing and you can have it handled by the insurance company or between the two (and your parents) of you. Do make a document that states you paid for the damages ;-)

It's a terrible thing to do and you wouldn't like it when it happens to you. But i guarantee you right now, it will happen to you too.

It's happened, so let it be. Make sure you got the lesson and won't do it again.

And just in case, if you hit a person and freak out....DON'T RUN! That would mean jail time.

I hit a parked car - couldn't find the owner?

I feel just awful. I bumped into a truck that was parked in back of me in the parking lot of my apartment complex this morning. I waited around for awhile hopeing someone would come out but no one did. It was pouring rain and I couldn't leave a note. I live in a big complex and have no idea whose car it was. I know that I shouldn't have left, but I had no way of contacting this person. I'm going back this afternoon to try and figure out who it was - the damage wasn't real bad, so I'm hopeing i can work something out with them. I'm just so worried that I'm going to get into some serious trouble over a little dent. Has anyone been in a similair situation? Is it still a hit and run if you attempt to find them after the fact?

Please don't tell me what i did was wrong - i know that. I am just really panicky right now - need some advice.

What should I do if my parked car was hit by an uninsured driver?

It depends on your coverage. Most policies have an uninsured motorist portion. But this is mainly, as I understand, only if you have collision insurance. The basic liability insurance only covers damage you do to other vehicles. Any damage done to your vehicle, whether you are at fault or not , is not covered by your insurance if you don’t have comprehensive or collision (depending on what caused the damage, in this case it would be under collision). If you prove another is at fault, their insurance would pay, if they had any.If you have coverage, just call the police to file a report and then make a claim with your insurance company. Also, be aware that your insurance company may try to file it as a collision claim instead of uninsured motorist if they can’t find evidence of another driver hitting you (a hit and run, for example). If they have no one to go after to get their money back or it is possible you are just claiming a hit and run to cover up an accident you caused (you hit a pole or something), then they will cover it under collision and they will raise your insurance rates.Of course, this is all based on my personal experience dealing with insurance companies in the past. Your best bet is always to consult your insurance company or a lawyer.

I hit a parked car in my school parking lot . What do I do?

I hit another car this morning when trying to park . I don't want to report it because if my parents find out I will loose my car. It's a fairly big dent . I don't know the person and I don't know if they will report it or not to the school . What do I do ? Can I get in serious trouble if I just let the owner of the car find it instead of telling someone ?
