How do I replace a skim module on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

You must use a NEW skim module. You can not use one from the junkyard. These modules are only programmable one time and that is to the specific vehicle that they are first programmed to. You can not switch a skim module from one vehicle to another once it has been programmed.

It takes a DRB III machine to program the skim modules once they are installed. That machine is usually only available at the dealership. Unless the skim module is programmed to your Jeep it will not work.

This is not usually a do it youself project unless you have a DRB III machine. In order to program the skim module you follow the prompts on the DRB III screen.

I've seen a number of folks try to bypass the system and take a short cut on this. I have never seen any of those bypasses or shortcuts work. This is one item that the dealer has to fix and it is your least expensive route on this issue.

Where is the pcm located in a 1996 jeep cherokee sport 4.0?

Pop the hood.
Stand in front of your jeep facing towards the windshield.
Look to your right (driver side) there should be a rectangular black box with a hose coming out the back, this is your air filter. Now between that black plastic box and the fender is a small box mounted on the fender. It should have a black plastic cover on it, and a large plug with lots of wires connected to it. That would be your PCM/ECM

Hope that helps!

How do you reset the computer in a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee has an On-board Diagnostics II (OBD-II) system & if you are experiencing an Illuminated Check-Engine-Light, you should first have the “Codes” identified by a Code-Reader to learn what the problem may be. Once the Repairs have been made, most OBD-II Code Readers are also able to Reset Your Computer to turn-off the Check-Engine-Light. (Most Auto Parts Chains in the US offer this as a Free Service for their customers; Auto-Zone, Napa, Advanced Auto Parts, ETC… or you could just take your car to Dealer Service & Pay for the same assistance.)(Most Equipped Home Mechanics, like myself, own an OBD-II Code Reader.)

Where is the fuse for my check engine light on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.7 liter V8 and automatic transmission?

I certainly hope that you're referring to the OBD2 port, and not the light itself. If you hooked up a scanner to your vehicle at couldn't get a connection, then you need to replace your cigarette lighter fuse (they run off the same fuse). If you're trying to disconnect a fuse to make your light go away… then that's a different story and I'm not helping you with that.Regardless, the cigarette lighter fuse (or auxiliary power fuse), should also run the OBD2 port. By replacing that fuse, you should be able to hook a scanner up to it and get the codes for your CEL (check engine light). The owners manual, or possibly the inside of the fuse box lid, will have a diagram. If not, Google Image search it and match it up to your vehicle. Good luck.

Radiator Fan on 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee wont turn off even though car is turned off after a snowy drive?

There are three possibilities for your issue. Most common, the radiator fan relay will stick either in the open or closed position. When in the open position, the electric radiator fan will not turn on unless a direct 12v source applies power. When the relay sticks closed, the fan will run constantly. The fan relay is located in a very hard to reach location, underneath the passenger side front bumper. According to the Chrysler/Jeep service manual, removal of the front fascia is required for a proper repair. Those of us who work on these vehicles and need to replace the relay will remove the passenger headlamp assembly and cut a hole in the top of the black plastic bumper, slightly offset from the center. The relay looks like a flat piece of silver metal about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 with a wire connector attached. The relay will be held down with two screws. If you decide to attempt this repair, you will need to reseal the hole, so keep the plastic that you cut and use a two part epoxy to seal everything up. It will normally take about a half hour to dry and may fall down before that so you need to keep an eye on the epoxy to make sure it stays on.

The other possibilities are very rare; an internal failure of the PCM (Powertrain Control Module or engine computer), a short in the wiring of the radiator fan itself, and of course any of the wiring in between. In my years of experience I have only seen a handful of PCM failures for this issue, and do not recall ever having an issue with any of the wiring.

It should also be noted that the CEL (Check Engine Light) may or may not be illuminated for an "Electric Fan Relay Failure".

Jeep Cherokee Catalytic Converter Recall/Refund?

It appears the failures are only for 1996-1998 Chrysler vehicles (including Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee). It appears that both the cat and the PCM were recalled. The cat for falling apart and rattling and the PCM for not detecting a cat failure. I wasnt able to find anything showing the exact range of VINs this was for... but perhaps yours doesnt fall into that range.

Where is the transmission control module located at in a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4 wheel drive 4.0 engine?

In your case, there isn't a separate module in the engine compartment. The WJ series Jeeps with the 4.0L engine use the type 42RE transmission which does not have an external TCM. The transmission control functions are part of the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM is located near the firewall on the right (as viewed from inside the car).I had the previous generation 4.0 Jeep with that transmission. In the ZJ series there was a small TCM inside the passenger compartment.
