Pcv Valve Removal On A 97 Buick Lesabre 3800 V6

What are the symptoms of a burnt exhaust valve?

The symptom you’re likely to notice the most when you have a burnt exhaust valve is a loss of power from the engine and an increase of fuel consumption as the engine is run harder to do the work expected of it. Other symptoms will be dependent upon how badly burn the valve is. You’ll be looking at a valve job to correct it, or else swap out the cylinder head altogether. When the edges of an exhaust valve burn, the combustion chamber no longer seals and not only do you lose compression in that cylinder, unburnt hydrocarbons will be exiting before they can be ignited.Running an engine low on oil will often burn one or more valves before the main bearings start to pound. Otherwise, a lean fuel mixture can cause this, too.On modern vehicles with a full exhaust system, the sound can be hard to discern. However, a cylinder leakage test will pinpoint it fairly well. Your pressure loss will be fairly high and you’ll hear the pressurized air escaping through the exhaust system, rather than through the intake or the crankcase. If you hook up a vacuum gauge, you may notice a steady loss of vacuum at idle if a valve is burnt or sticking.

Pcv valve on a 1997 buick lesabre 3800 v6?

If it's like the 3800 I used to own, it locks into a cavity on the plastic intake plenum.

Here's a pic of it - http://www.gmforum.com/attachments/buick...

The one I had locked in like a bayonet light bulb deal, push in and 1/4 twist it off.

97 buick lesabre, miss's when underload?

It sounds like a coil as they run two cylinders. Did you replace the wires? If you put the plug wire to the wrong cylinder it is going to skip on two cylinders as well. A bad wire will do the same thing. the coil uses the mating cylinder as a ground and actually fires on the exhaust stroke so an open could give you a two cyl misfire. The reason it shows under load is because of the heavier mixture is harder to burn but also with the load you can feel every cyl as it fires so it is easier to tell when it misses.

You can test the intake for leaks with propane for internal leaks (such as a not lit propane torch in the pcv grommet in the valve cover) or carburetor cleaner sprayed around the area that the intake fits to the heads both with the engine running, look for a change in idle speed. But a leak like that generally is accompanied by a higher than normal idle much more so than a skip. I say stick to the ignition system then the injection system and you will find the problem.

What are the main causes of high oil pressure?

Oil pressure in a car is measured as the resistance to flow between the oil pump in the oil pan and the bearings in the crankshaft. If it is actually too high, it means you are not getting enough oil through the bearings to keep your engine from self destructing. The higher your rpm, the higher your oil pressure, up to the point where an extra valve detours the excess oil back to the oil pan to recirculate. Typically, at idle you will have 10 to 15 psi, with 30 to 40 psi at driving speeds. The colder your engine, the higher your oil pressure, as the oil is still much thicker than it will be at operating temperatures. Typically, on startup, you will have 40 to 60 psi, which will drop to ranges listed above once the engine heats up.A high oil pressure reading on your gauge means:The oil is too viscous (thick). Most cars today are designed for 0W-20 to 5W-30 viscosity. If you are using 10W-40, 20W-50 or something like that, you will have high oil pressure and high wear.Your filter bypass valve on the filter or in the block is stuck closed, and the oil is too thick or dirty to pass through the filter media, trying to go through the bypass valve. If the high pressure is at high rpm, it may be the secondary bypass valve I mentioned at the beginning.Clogged oil passages to the bearings from sludge.Your thermostat is missing or stuck open, not letting the engine heat up.Your gauge is broken. Check it with a manual gauge.

What does it mean when the engine is seized?

Engine seizure is normally the result of a failure of the lubrication system. It is often where a piston has friction welded itself to the cylinder bore. Sometimes it will be the big end bearing , the main bearings or the small end bearing. The net result is the same, though. The engine cannot be rotated. If you are very lucky, and the siezure is only slight, then the engine may free up again when it cools down. But damage will still have been done. Until water cooling and special oils were developed, racing two stroke engines were notorious for piston siezures.

Why is antifreeze coming out of the exhaust? What can I do?

First, you're positive that it's coolant? Green and matches the stuff in your radiator? I ask because you will have a certain amount of condensation developing in the exhaust pipe and this increases in cold weather so it may look like a bunch of water is coming out when it's just normal condensation. If you're sure it's coolant, your vehicle should also be running poorly as that means your head gasket is blown and coolant is getting into the cylinder(s). Coolant in the cylinder is very bad and you should stop operating the vehicle immediately or risk further (more expensive) damage.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will

<<<>>>> Take $20-30 to any quicky llbue and have them remove and clean your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE and THROTTLE BODY. The IAC valve on FOrd engines removes easily for cleaning. It fine tunes AIR/FUEL mixture and gets dirty from the use of CHEAPER oil change bargain specials. Your engine will LOVE you if you use only MOBIL ONE 0W_30 engine oil, and change it once a year. It prevents sensor failure and contamination and you will gain power and economy and lower emissions. CHeap oil makes vapors that CLOUD up the IAC with time and ruin economy and performance. You will see at once. GOOD LUCK!! The radiator fan noise is NORMAL for the kind of heat we are having. SCANNED MY CAR AND CODE P0171 CAME UP HOW DO I FIX?

What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor
in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
Symptoms

You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.
Causes

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
* There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible Solutions

Possible solutions include:

* In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
* Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
