People Who Lift Weights Help.

How do most people learn how to lift weights?

I don't know about most people but here is how, I and several of my peers, learned. My mom was a runner, so I was in the gym with her from the age of 8 - 12 this is where I got hooked. I met several powerlifters and bodybuilders throwing around massive weights, and I thought is was cool as hell. When I turned 14 I started to lift with them and for football. I would go to the gym in the AM for an hour, go to school, then go to footbal practice, and spend another hour lifting after. The motivation was to look like Arnold. That and you want to play better. I ended up going to college on a swimming scholarship not a football scholarship but it continued during college. When I quit swimming bc of bad shoulders in 2009, I became serious about strongman and powerlifting. Now that I'm older I'm going to give bodybuilding a shot. It's a bit easier on the joints, higher reps, less weight and shorter routines. Although, I do still practice powerlifting 3 days a week, and I'm still easily in the 1000lb club.

People who lift weights, what motivates you to lift?

first i think you need to recognize why you are starting in order to overcome the tired and lazy feelings.

i cannot just show up at the gym without a plan. i know what areas i would like to work out that day and have a mental list of exercises that target those areas. i enjoy feeling my body work during the exercises and eventually visually seeing the improvement in my body. i don't kill myself every workout either. i listen to my body, i challenge it...not punish it.

i also prefer to workout out my entire body instead of splitting it up. lower weights or higher reps. i get more done and feel better when finished.

pushing weights helps eliminate my stress (which is in large amounts) after thoroughly working out i feel energized and ready to complete the day.

subscribe to realistic fitness mags. when you read about exercise and fitness i find it makes you want to do it.

good luck.

Does lifting weights help you grow taller?

Im 17 years old, and about 5'5''. I heard if i start lifting weights now, it may help me grow taller, but ive also heard that lifting stops people from growing to their full potential height. which is true? ... and do you know any other activity that could help me grow a little taller.. such as basketball or swimming? im not asking for a miracle growth spurt, im just looking for another 2-3 inches.

thanks

What are the gloves called people use in gym for lifting weights .. ?

weight lifting gloves/workout gloves

Does lifting weights stop people from growing taller?

5' 8.5" isn't short at all...that's pretty much the norm (that close to my height, and i don't have trouble attracting women...of course I'm 31 and girls in my age aren't that shallow)

But back to the question...no, its not stunting your growth. You would have to fracture a bone through a growth plate to stop its growth...and even thats not 100% certain. You're fine, growth spurts in puberty have a weird cycles sometimes...you've got till your mid-20's before it really stops.

Does lifting weights burn fat?

Yes…and No.almost 4 years ago, I weighed over 300+ Lbs and was at about 49% Body Fat. I started weightlifting 6 days a week and eating a strict, competition-style diet. I meal prepped every week, and stuck to those foods I made religiously. I walked around with a SixPackBag (if you don’t know what those are google that shit, they’re amazing) everywhere I went. To the gym. To my work. To birthday parties. Everywhere. When it was meal time, it was meal-time. I never substituted.A year later of six days a week, with strict nutrition and no cardio I was down to 203LBs and about 14% body fat.I felt like a new man. However, I will say this. If you’re relying SOLELY on lifting weights to lose fat, then no, you probably won’t see much success. It takes a dialed in diet, and consistent application of said diet (and exercise) to successfully lose fat. These days I sit around 180, and 10% body fat, going to the gym 3 times a week. I’ve found the best ways to optimize my time and my nutrition, and really enjoy looking lean all year around with only a tiny bit of effort compared to the beginning. If you’re curious how I did that, drop a comment, shoot me an email, and I’d be happy to help.Hope this helps!

Will weight lifting help or hurt arthritis?

Exercises for the fingers and joints are always recommended for people with arthritis. Therefore, lifting weights continuously provides grasping and releasing of the grips, which provides exercise for the fingers.

Popping and crackling of the joints has nothing to do with arthritis.
