Photoshop Lighting Effects Filter Greyed Out

Why are the Photoshop lighting effects greyed on my Photoshop CC and the file is already in 8-bit RGB?

You need to enable “Use Graphics Processor” in Preferences > Performance. It’s recommended to use a video card with at least 2 GB Ram. If it’s still not working, maybe it’s time for an upgrade. To be sure, check the official system requirements regarding the graphic card:Photoshop system requirementsEdit: Also check if your OS is updated and you are using the latest video driver. Good luck!

Where did the Lighting Effects filter go in Photoshop CS5?

Lighting Effects filter will be enabled only when you work on RGB color mode. So check whether you are working in RGB mode and enable visibility of filter menu render options (alt+cntrl+Shift+M).

How do I do this blue light effect in Photoshop?

The first thing want to do is select the area of the image you want to glow. So the first step is you need to do is to draw a selection around the items you want to “glow”.The next step is to create the overall glow (we’ll get to the edge glow in the next step) With your selection still active, create an adjustment layer - hue/saturation.This layer will automatically be masked to the selection you made.Check the box “colorize” and adjust the sliders until you have the right bluish cast and saturation.Set the blending mode to Linear Dodge, or Color Dodge, and adjust the layer fill opacity until the overall glow appears like you want. The third step is to create the edge glow. Click and drag the little fx at the bottom of the layer palette, and chose Inner Glow.Set its blending mode to the same mode as the layer, either Linear Dodge or Color Dodge. Dial in a similar blue color. Adjust the sliders so it looks like the image you want. Adjust the transparency of the effect to fine tune. The next step is to create the outline. Click and drag the little fx at the bottom of the layer palette, and chose Stroke.Select a similar color as the inner glow, set the width, and whether you want the stroke position to align with the inside, outside, or center of your selection. Be sure to set the blending mode to the same as your inner glow. Finally, you want the whole thing to glow a little bit against the background. Follow the same procedure as step three, but select Outer Glow instead of Inner Glow. You want this effect to be less prominent than the inner glow so turn down the opacity until it looks the way you want it to.You’re done.

Why is the lens flare option grayed out in Photoshop?

Check if you are on a normal layer (e.g. not an adjustment layer, type layer, smart object, shape, etc.) that is not empty. The lens flare option will work to modify the existing content of a layer, not create something completely new from scratch.

Why Cant I Use Lighting Effects In Adobe Photoshop?

I'm guessing that your image is in Grayscale. You can do all the earlier steps without running into any problems using a grayscale image, but not Lighting Effects.

Try going to Image > Mode and choosing RGB Color from the list. When it asks if you want to merge the layers, say "Don't Merge." after all, you've built an image with a lot of layers for a reason!

After that, you should find that the filter is enabled, and the rest of the tut should go without a hitch.

As a general rule of thumb, whenever a filter is grayed out, check the color mode. A lot of them can only run on RGB images.

Photoshop is really quite stable. If something isn't working as expected, there's usually a reason for it. Reinstalling puts everything back to the default, and that might solve the problem (until the next time you change something, and forgot that you did.) But it's very seldom necessary.

What is the reason why the filter gallery is greyed out in Photoshop?

I just ran into the same problem… I tried converting to 8 bit; tried flattening layers; made sure I was in a layer that was not vector and was not empty… None of these workedI was able to get to access and use the filter when I converted the file to RGB!Things are flaring up now (get it) :)!

What are the most effective uses of Photoshop in history?

Technically it was the first Image Editing tool and hence the only tool used to edit images. The time when it was introduced for Macs in 1991, it helped users to draw and make basics image editing on their laptops. It encouraged people to work on it, also think of a computer as a design tool. This was a important step as people used it mostly for programming. After a few versions of photoshop, when more functionality was introduced, in 95, Movie poster were digitized instead of the sketched in retro style. It's made the job so easy that everyone was interested in doing their own editing, and this encouraged the growth of digital design which then led development of other different tools for design, like corel, exploiting the drawbacks of photoshop.Hence, it plays a key role in changing the tread of design and the entire imaging industry.

Adobe Photoshop: I can't use paint bucket or color replacement tool on JPGs! Any ideas?

It seems to me that you are trying to apply the paint bucket directly to a jpeg and since I don't know what the image looks like I'm guessing the bucket doesn't recognize enough pixels of the same color and ends up painting only one.The paint bucket has a setting called “tolerance”. If it is too low, let's say 1, and you are trying to paint a photograph, the bucket will only color pixels that are almost exactly the same color and next to each other. If it is high, say 150, it will spread the paint much more.A better way to retouch photographs is to create layers and mostly retouch on those layers. Save it as a PSD file.Aside from being a format that doesn't support layers, jpg compresses the image every time you save it, so after saving several times you will notice a considerable decline in quality. Another reason to use PSD files.I hope that helps and if not, I hope you find a solution soon.
