How do you know you are pursuing the right dream or the right career path?

Are you interested in what you are doing? Does the topic/field hold your interest and your attention? Does what you are doing feel like play rather than work? Are you planning to continue learning and growing in this area and do you have a plan to do that?If you can answer yes to all of those, it is likely you are in a field that you enjoy and that is fulfilling. If your answers were all no’s and in capital letters, then it is also a good bet that you are not where you belong. Some people don’t find the right dream until later in life. Grandma Moses didn’t paint until she was in her 80’s. Some people can’t afford their dream until they have saved enough money to go back to school, to start a charity, to pursue a volunteer opportunity. Some people are in the wrong career for their entire working life. Usually those are the people who thought money was their reward and after a few years they found that hated what they were doing. The people who seem to be the most content are those who choose to be responsible for themselves. They tend to be continuous learners and are open to new ideas, new possibilities, new opportunities. If they find they are unhappy or unsatisfied they look internally to see what the causes might be and then they look for solutions.I know it sounds trite, but the phrase “you’ll know it when you see it” really does have merit. When something is right, it feels right. It doesn’t make you pull the covers over your head each day or give you stress headaches. It feels emotionally satisfying. Sometimes it’s the hobby; sometimes it’s the job or career.

How to pick a career if i have no passion?

Can someone give me any advice about how to pick a career if I don't have a true passion. I have things that I like to do, but I can't really imagine myself using them for a career. I like music, but not enough to pursue a career with it. I also like the social sciences, but I only like learning about them. I considered becoming a professor, but I don't think I can deal with the research. In my undergraduate studies, I was good with it, but I don't like it very much. I thought about picking a career based on financial prospects, but most of the high paying jobs like physician, pharmacist, lawyer, engineer do not interest me.

Whats the best career field to get into right now?

The first year or two of college you are just taking basic courses, so no need to rush picking a career. During them first couple years you are also going to meet your professors who are going to be able to guide you in a much better direction than anyone here on YA.

Right now it is very difficult to tell what jobs there are going to be in 4 years.

Just be grateful you are able to go to college. As for me I'm stuck in a job which could end any day. When I went to college it was the hot field to get into. I don't have enough money to go back to college and make to much to get financial aid. So, best advice is wait, see what you like in college (as your interests will probably change) and talk to your professors.
