How do you find casting calls (Pitch Perfect 2)?

Casting for a movie works like this. A casting director writes a "breakdown" describing the project and the roles to be cast. Usually they then release that breakdown to licensed talent agents and managers only. Then agents review the breakdowns and submit their clients for the appropriate roles and work to get them auditions.

If the casting director wants to cast a wider net, they might release it to actors though an online service like actorsaccess.com or castingnetworks.com. or in an industry trade like Variety or backstage.com. Then it would give you information about submitting for the role. Usually you'll send in your head shot, acting resume and acting reel and they'll contact you about an audition if they're interested in you.

Frankly, I challenge the idea that some of the actors in Pitch perfect landed the role without an agent. Exactly who do you think did this. Because I checked the credits and resumes of most of the main actors and they all had previous experience (some of it quite extensive) that indicates that they had an agent. There was only one actor who looked new to it, but his father is a producer, so he had connections that might have helped.

Plus, major movies are usually union productions, so they have agreements with the SAG-AFTRA actors union. That means preference is given to union actors. It is rare that a non-union actor would be given an audition (let alone cast) in a union production. And an inexperienced, unagented, non-union actor getting cast in a movie?! That would be very unusual

So you can always find out the casting director for the production and submit your head shot, resume and acting reel to them. There's a very good chance that it'll be thrown away without being looked at, but I guess it's something.
