The silent treatment is usually during the devalue stage. The discard is the big break up. The discard is usually when the Narcissist decides to leave. The devalue stage is where the Narcissist is busy with another form of supply. This could be friends, acquaintances, new lovers….either way in the devalue stage, the Narcissist is usually obtaining new means of fuel.The silent treatment is a form of punishment doled out by the Narcissist. You probably got under the Narcissist’s skin, maybe pushed the wrong button, maybe you found out a secret of the Narcissist’s and made him/ her aware of that. It could be many things. But, it's to scold you. It's to set you straight. The more emphasis you put onto it by getting upset, asking what's wrong will only provide exactly what the Narcissist wants, which is a form of attention or supply.When the Narcissist decides to discard you it's because another source of supply is available. Or maybe you are not providing the supply needed. I think you will know when the discard happens. It's usually the end of the relationship. Although, if the Narcissist wants to come back some time later, the entire cycle could start over if you allow it.
