Plasma Donating Scar Easy

Is it a good idea to donate plasma.?

I eat a healthy balanced vegan diet. I've donated a four time already just because I'm a desperate poor student. Tuition went up and I need to get through one more year of school. As you can tell I hate it but I'm desperate.

I am kind embarrassed of doing this but at the same time it helps make therapies for people with life threatening diseases. I just don't feel good about it since I'm mostly doing it to get a little cash. Its why I am ashamed to tell my fam and friends. What do you think of donating plasma?

Have any vegans out there done it?

I hear it depletes you from your iron and protein. Also, if I continue....what are some good tips to recover?

What does the size of your veins have to do with donating plasma?

I went to donate plasma today, and she told me that my vein was too small. I've donated blood before with no problem, and having been pregnant last year, I had to give a lot of blood.

Honestly, I think the woman was a bit of a dingbat, because I asked her what he difference was between the needles and she said "Well at the hospital they use a drip to INSERT something." I took medical terminology, my sister is a nurse. Im not an idiot. Drip is termed for use with IV's. They don't DRAW BLOOD FROM YOUR IV. They put the IV in on my left arm, and they took blood from my right when I was in the delivery room. When I was in HS they drew blood easily, no problems. My veins aren't easily felt from the surface, but they are there...and once found they are easy to get blood from.

I drove a good distance to donate and used a good deal of gas, and was kind of upset when they told me "sorry."

Im just trying to figure out what it could mean & if there is anything to do about it.

Can donating blood plasma cause acne?

It seems that the day after I donate I have acne on my cheeks close to my jawline. They are deep cystic like acne. Could this be a deficiency or hormonal change due to donating? What can I eat or do to help?

How much will donating plasma effect my body?

The donation of plasma is a simple process that utilizes sterile equipment to take blood out, run it trough a machine that will mix it with an anti coagulent and spin the plasma out will returning the blood cells and binding protiens back to your system. The procedure will not effect you physically. I would suggest taking that day easy after the donation so as to not relieve pressure on the needle site for about 8 hours to prevent blood oozage from the needle stick site.

My veins in my arm were to small to donate plasma, how can i get them bigger so i can donate?

Your veins are part of your anatomy... you cant chage that...

It is neither good nor bad... it just is what it is...

Drinking water will only help increase the circulating volume of blood... sometimes helping the blood donation to go faster...

Just because you cant donate plasma doesnt mean you cant donate whole blood...

Good Luck to you,
Nurse Angie

Can donating plasma regularly result in scarring of the veins or other long term damage?

Yes. I actually have a visible scar from donating so much. But it’s harmless and small, doesn’t even interfere with blood flow and that vein can still be used for blood and plasma draws. I gave twice a week for two years, got the scar after probably a year.

Should I lie about when I got my tattoo so I can donate plasma?

I currently go to school in Maryland and here they say you have to wait 12 months to donate plasma after getting a tattoo. I got the tattoo in April and do not understand why I must wait. I did it in Jersey at a authorized tattoo shop with clean needles. Plus I have had the same sexual partner for the last 3 years. I also know I do not have hepatitis or anything else because I get checked regularly. So would it be that bad to lie saying I got my tattoo over 12 months ago when it s really been about 10 months? I m a college student and really need the money, plus I want to help others.

I donate plasma regularly. How can I minimize the bruising and marks on my arms?

The other answers are right for bruising. If you are getting scar tissue you can alternate arms, if you have a suitable vein in each arm. If you are doing the twice in 7 days that gives a week for the puncture to heal. Some of the donors I work with swear by vitamin E oil. After the site is clotted, about 1–2 hours at least, rub a small amount of oil on it. Some get the capsules and puncture them or you can get the oil in a small bottle. Just a small drop is all it takes. They use it at least daily and swears by it for the scars. I have even had some tell me olive oil works too. About once or twice a year some will take a 2 week to month break to completely heal, but that is their preference.
