Playing Sports / Working Out After Scaphoid Fracture

Hello, Selva. It's hard for one to precisely answer to your question because you have missed out on some really crucial details like: did you undergo a screw fixation surgery for it? or did you just get away with a cast? or are you still wearing a cast, for that matter? Be sure to put that up in the question. Now, assuming you just went through the injury, you'll get a cast around your wrist and it will stay for approximately six to eight weeks depending on your age. After the cast gets removed you will require therapy sessions for proper blood circulation and a full restoration of the range of motion (ROM) of the wrist. The time therapy takes will solely depend upon how fast your body recovers from the injury. Usually, it takes two to four weeks. Once you are completely healed you're good to go. But, you are going to have to rely on exercises that don't put any strain on your wrist for a long time. Lift lighter weights, maintain good form. Just precautionary measures.Regardless of the medication you went through, I strongly advise you to not rush the rest period and to go back to training only after the full ROM is achieved and the pain is completely subsided. I understand, it would be hard for you for not being able to hit the gym during the healing process, but your body needs this rest to get back to lifting weights and keep it that way for the long run.Wish you a happy and speedy recovery!

Not sure exactly how and to what extent your scaphoid is fractured but be cautious when you refer to a "minor" fracture of that bone. Injuries to the scaphoid are notorious for leading to significant consequences, albeit often delayed. Also, it is not unusual to have co-existent injuries to the nearby tendons. Bottom line- get is checked out. Best of luck.

Wrists hurt when playing volleyball!?

people should be ashamed at the answers they are giving you.

If your feeling pain then your contacting the ball wrong!!!!!!
End of story.

if your wrist hurt when spiking, it's beacuase your wrist shouldn't be hitting the ball, you should use your hand. Make sure your hand stays big and hard, and focus on good contact over power.

if your wrists are hurting when passing the ball then stop attacking it. If your arms are swinging into the ball then you have a problem. I am guessing that if your wrists are hurting then your passing is either going over the net, or away from your target.
When the ball contacts your arm you should be slightly dropping your arms. (And I mean slightly) it's called excepting the ball.

If you have a really hard spiker you might get stung once and a while, but once you start accepting the ball instead of attacking the ball your pain will go away in a hurry.

Keep up fighting for your spot on the team, hopefully your coach has better answers for you than you have gotten here.
Socks on the wrist, tape, ice, cold water, cutting of the fingers so the you wont notice the pain in the wrists are all awful responses. Just try accepting the ball instead of attacking it....

Hi Mhaskar - Thanks for reaching out! By 'crack in your wrist bone,' do you mean a physical crack (or in this case, fracture) in your wrist, and thus you had to stop working out with it until it healed? Or, do you mean that you started hearing a crack in your wrist, and as a result decided to stop using it? If you actually injured yourself, you should ask a doctor his/her opinion before resuming physical activity with that wrist. You don't want to rush back from an injury like that, because it can be very debilitating to re-injure it again when it's not fully healed. If you're just hearing a crack, you don't need to stop unless you actually feel physical pain. My body cracks all the time, and usually because I want it too. The only time you should stop exercising an area because of an audible crack is if you feel physical pain. Otherwise, it's usually your body waking up and realigning itself.Hope this helps! 2. Any Age can play the sport. Except tennis. Start at age 10 if you want your daughter to play tennis.
3. Soccer is the best sport if she wants to stick with it for years. But she has to be determined if anything.
4.. Non of the sports are brutal. Its all friendly competition.
5. For Soccer all you need is protective wear and a ball. And those should last you quite a long time. VolleyBall is actually the cheapest. All you need is a ball. But train her first with no equipment. Tennis you need a racket. And a net. I don't reccomend this sport because it has a lot of downside. And there aren't a lot of leagues for young people. The main population wil just go out and play for fun. But its only fun when your good at the sport.

My reccomendations. Soccer. Your best choice/

I went through the same thing after I started playing badminton, when I played for some days (4 or 5) and stopped playing because my shoulders were in huge pain. Then I played cricket for some time (again a week at most but regularly) my shoulders started to hurt again (I was more into football so I had rarely experienced such pains in arm and shoulders. The pain was so much that I decided to consult a doctor (to be on the safe side and to know  that there is no permanent  problem with my shoulder). The doctor said it's all ok. Here comes the fun part....... After that I decided to continue playing even with pain (badminton) and after two or three weeks the pain disappeared. I became aware that the pain was due to trying to smash everytime and hence my placing game improved(i didn't tried the smash much while it hurt). So yes it will stop hurting after 3-4 weeks of continue playing otherwise consult a doctor. (I'm assuming that u r new to the game otherwise if you are playing for some time you should definitely go to a doctor for a check up)

SPORTS CAST for my wrist/arm?

i fractured my wrist, and next week they are going to put on a normal cast on my arm...

i play football a lot and if possible i really dont want to miss 4-6 weeks, and obviously football isnt a sport where you need to use arms too much (soccer as some call it)

i heard i could get a sport cast, how does that work? can i explain in hospital that i play a lot of sport and would they give me a sport cast?

because i doubt i could play with a normal heavy cast.......

oh, and they said it was a very slight fracture and will take upto 6 weeks, will it really take that lonf? :S im 15 if that helps.
