A purple horizontal line on the bottom of the screen? (Hp laptop?)?
I have a 1 year old+ HP laptop sooo yeah... No warranties. =((( The purple horizontal line on the bottom of the screen bothers me a lot. Is this a threat to the computer? How do I fix this? Can you tell more about this line? The laptop had never been dropped, damaged or hit... nor it has viruses... It's just frequently used (because I'm always busy) and 15% of the memory has been used... please please please help me with this... it's bothering me a lot.

Unfortunately flickering lines on your screen is very rarely a good sign.The first thing I would try would be to check for an updated graphics driver but unfortunately I feel it is likely to be more complex and more than likely one of the following:The screen is failing and needs to be repaired - Screens do fail it is one of the more common parts I replace Cost could be anywhere from 50 - 100 depending on the screen.The inverter is failing. The inverter in most laptops regulates the voltage to the screen. Usually the screen just goes black or very faded but it can cause lines before it gets to this stage Cost 30–50The cable that runs from the motherbaord to the screen is faulty - The cable usually runs up by the hinge and get get kinked and damaged. Theya re relativly easy to repalce but do require you dissasembling the screen - Cost 35- 60The graphics chip on the board is failing. Most laptops have a graphics chip soldered to the motherboard. These can fail and there was a stage where certain laptops were becoming de-soldered from the board causing these kinds of problems. If you connect the laptop to an external display and dont have the lines you can pretty much rule this “Terminal” diagnosis out. Laptops are very, for the lack of a better word, moody. My first advice, for any laptop related issue, particularly display based, is to check the CMOS battery on the mobo. Remove, re-insert, shuffle, try doing everything you can. Secondly, (less chances) try shuffling the RAM. Laptops mobos are very particular about RAM, and they often look like they're having a love-hate relationship. Thirdly, I'd recommend opening the laptop up, and rewiring/reconnecting it. Take it apart and put it back together again. And fourthly, (this is the last on my list, since in terms of access, this is the most inconvenient one, and also a bit unlikely) try using another battery and see if it gives the same result. There might be a teeny possibility that the battery has gone unusually wrong, and since it seems to trigger the issue, it might be the reason for it, too. Laptop display related issues are hardly ever about the display itself.

Most of the time this will be caused by a faulty VGA cable, or, more often, a bad connection between the cable and the source/output device. Unplug and replug the cable.

It could mean your laptop battery is dead or the battery sensors need to be recalibrated . When you keep laptops on charging for long times often or always then the sensors lose track of how much charge they can actually carry and their charge holding capacity.Try these steps and they will surely help.Simple battery reinsertion: just shut down the laptop , remove charging cable, remove battery, if there is dust build up , remove it . Reinsert the battery And try booting it. Maybe it will work. Otherwise try next method.Recalibration: Remove battery , connect charging cable , start the laptop. Once you are in search device manager -> batteries . you will see 3 names in the field opened like Microsoft acpi compatible battery and some other names. Select all 3 and one by one uninstall them. If it asks to restart simply ignore and shut down.(don't restart, I repeat.) Now insert the battery back and the charging cable and boot the laptop. You will see it working normally and charging light stops flickering. If this too doesn't work try next method.Google battery health view by nirisoft and download it. Once downloaded , extract the .zip file and launch battery state view. You will see a lot of data ignore it and move down to column of designed capacity and current capacity and battery health. If battery health is below 30 ,it means battery is weak and needs replacement soon.Try to check the charger for damage. Also check the charging socket on your laptop. Some laptop check if the charger is original and give problems if it isn't.
