Plz Help I Have A 1999 Vw Jetta Mk4 And The Car Turns Off On Me.

How do I know if my 99 Jetta is AEG model?

AEG is the engine code. You can look at a sticker on the side of the timing cover on the engine. I would guess that by now the sticker is not readable. If you have a 4 cylinder engine that is not turbo charged, you have an AEG engine.

I would get your V.I.N and call your local dealership. They can look up your engine code.

How do I turn my Jetta headlights off?

Remove the headlight switch:
a) In the off position, push on the knob until it depresses and twist knob to the right.
b) Remove switch
c) Remove connector

Locate the "TFL" pin on the headlight switch.
Bend down "TFL" pin.

Reinstall.

HELP! HOW CAN I START A 02' BEETLE WITHOUT THE KEY?!?

Most modern vehicles have anti theft devices built in that are difficult to bypass.

One common system found in most modern vehicles is a sensor in the system that will sense any attempts to start the engine without using a key. When this happens the security system will immediately shut down the engine management computer. Without this computer, you aren't going anywhere. This makes any attempt to hotwire ineffective.

Next thing you would need to get past is the locking steering and gearshift. The only way to do this is to physically break the lock that the ignition key goes into. You usually do this by using a dent pulling slide hammer to break and remove the lock. But if you attempt to start without a key, see the previous paragraph. Using a pliers to turn what remains of the lock only works in the movies.

So for an amateur like yourself, this would be too difficult.

Also, who's name is on the title. If the car is not in your name if you were to take it you could be charged with theft.

Your best bet is to find an alternate means of transportation until you can resolve this issue with your guardian. Take the bus, a cab, call a friend, etc.

Vw beetle revving on its own please help!?

Most often this is due to a dirty throttle positioner or idle controller, or a vacuum leak like a hose off.
You can take the trottle positioner off and clean it.
The EVAP emmissions control is the purge valve, and you can test it by just pinching it off.
For example, if you take the gas cap off, it would likely run just like your symptoms.

But find an honest shop.
The wiring loom charge was not only excessive, but almost never the problem.
The problem has to be air, not electrical, unless there is a transient that is stuck.
If that is the case, you can try resetting it by taking the battery terminal off for a half hour.
15 minutes is not enough.
Let the system totally discharge and reset.
Think about if you have a radio with a security code before you do that however.
The car will run bad for a bit until it relearns.
But it should get better is it is a glitch.
However, my main guess is still vacuum leak.
Try pinching off vacuun hoses one at a time to see if any cause an improvement.
For example, PCV, EGR, purge valve, brake booster, etc.

What are the symptoms of a bad starter relay?

Depending on the age of the car, it usually manifests as absolutely nothing happening when you turn the ignition to start. No click. No series of clicks, just silence. Your accessories will operate, which is how you know it isn’t a bad battery, but you won’t get anything else when you go to start the car.If you have a car with a remote starter solenoid, you can see if its bad by putting the car in “on” and using a screwdriver to manually cross the poles of the solenoid. If the car starts, you’ve identified that the problem is either the solenoid or the ignition switch. Please, only try this if you have a remote solenoid that is clear of any moving part of the engine. Most American cars have the solenoid attached to the starter and located under the car, which means this approach could get you hurt or killed. Now, if you’re talking about the actual relay in the fuse box, check the resistance on the coil terminals to see if you get an open circuit. If you do, then the relay is bad and it will need to be replaced. You’ll need a voltmeter for this task. I’ve noticed many newer vehicles have a small wiring diagram for the relay printed on the side of the relay itself, which is pretty handy.

How do I fix my car having a rough idle after replacing the alternator?

You're right to assume that something else going on. Because it is!Personally I'd check to see if the alternator is providing the right amount of voltage. it's not impossible to get the wrong part installed. and when I say that, I don't necessarily mean you chose the wrong part, but during the assembly line a part they grabbed while assembling the alternator could have been or of spec or something. Check the grounds. A lot of the time, over years of use a little sand blasting or sand papering of the hookups does help. while running the engine, disconnect the battery. A poorly performing battery can drag the entire system down. check to make sure your AC ain't causin' problems too. make sure the clutch is spinning or not spinning when not being used. double check the water pump to see if it was messed up. lastly check all your ignition wiring too. depending on the model year and brand, it might be chatty with obd2. if it's carbureted, obviously you won't get any feedback. if it is obd2, there might be information in there that can give you an idea of what's going on. so get a reader and check. also with modern fi engines, they'll run rough after a battery removal for a while. make sure your fuel economy hasn't been affected, if it has, it's a clear indication that something is wrong.
