Police Confiscated Combination Box With Pot Inside

What are some slang terms used among police officers?

The most derogatory terms for the bad guys and citizens who are just pains in the rectum:A.H. = Adam Henry (A-dam H-enry) If you don’t get it…..sometimes you will hear it as “Jack Hole”…..now what starts with an “A” that ends with HOLE ?RICHARD CRANIUM= What starts with a “D” and is a nickname for Richard ? What is the non-medical layman’s term for the Cranium ? Do these clues HEAD you in the right direction ?

Say a cop pulls me over for a minor traffic violation, what should I do if he asks me to unlock my mobile phone and hand it over to him/her?

Ask him/her if they have a warrant. If not ( which, of course, they don’t), respectfully decline until they do. Which they will not do. In order to get a warrant, they would have to contact a judge, who would have to sign off on the warrant, and deliver said warrant to the officer. Which they wouldn’t do over a simple traffic stop. Unless a personal injury/ death/ property damage/ etc. has occurred and the officer wants to know if you were texting/ talking on a non hands-free phone at the time. Then, all bets are off. I would still wait for the warrant, but also contact a lawyer. The same applies if they ask you to open the trunk, open the glove box, or otherwise ask to see any part of the car that is NOT in plain view. If you have a joint sitting on the passenger seat, you’re out of luck. It’s in plain view. If you had 200 pounds of pot in the trunk, and they asked you to open it, you ask for the warrant. NOT in plain view, and not part of a standard traffic stop.Granted, I am not a lawyer, but I do know a few things about the difference between a simple traffic stop and a fishing expedition. If you say “Yes” to their request, you have basically given up your 4th Amendment ( unreasonable search and seizure) and 5th Amendment ( self-incrimination) rights. They have to suspect you have done something egregious to get a warrant. If you did, they will. If not, they won’t.

Under what conditions can a cop look in someone's safe deposit box in the United States?

It is extraordinarily unlikely that a bank would allow a police officer to search a safe deposit box without either the consent of its owner or a warrant. If your box was actually searched, most likely it was either because they had a warrant (which will be obvious because the bank will have had to drill out the lock), or because you have a co-owner on your box and the co-owner consented to the search. However, please note that it’s absolutely legal for a police officer to lie to you during an interrogation in order to try to elicit an incriminating response from you. I suspect the purpose of that question was to get you to confirm that you have a safe deposit box. That, combined with your statement, is enough for them to get a warrant to locate your box and have it searched without your permission. This is why it’s generally best to refuse to answer questions during a police interrogation without the assistance of an attorney. The police are, inevitably, better at interrogating you than you are at resisting interrogation.God, well... Some of the stupidest criminals in the world are working right here in America. I've always been very proud of that.

Can search dogs detect cannabis laced edibles?

The answer to your question will depend on how the edibles are made. Dogs not only have an incredible sense of smell, they are also amazing discriminators. When you smell beef stew, the odor you detect is a combination of ingredients blended together. You recognize that combination as beef stew. If your dog is one of the better breeds for detection, such as a Shepard, your dog smells beef, carrots, celery, etc. each individually, and together. Because of that it is difficult to hide the smell of cannabis in other smells. What detection dogs actually smell are terpenes, those compounds that give cannabis it’s unique and often varied fragrance. While you find terpenes in all cannabis, it is not the component that gets you “high”. That is THC, and these days THC can be extracted from cannabis without the terpenes. For use in edibles this is normally the case. Most edibles these days use a standardized extract of THC that comes from supercritical CO2 extraction. This extract typically does not typically include terpenes, as they have to be removed in a separate, sub-critical process that edibles makers don’t use. It yields a standardized THC extract that makes dosing in edibles much easier and more accurate. These edibles won’t alert dogs as they are not actually trained to smell THC (virtually odorless), they are trained to recognize the terpenes found in cannabis. However, if you have edibles that you made by soaking skunk weed in melted butter and using the butter to make your edibles… a police K-9 can nail you.Bottom line - If your edibles are made by a large edibles maker, it is very unlikely there is anything for a K-9 to smell inside. However, if your edibles are home made then I would not bet on getting past a police K-9. Different dogs, of course, have different abilities and the level of training is important as better trained dogs are better at discriminating odors.I spent the better part of a year a about 10 years ago becoming a registered detection dog handler for both explosives and drugs. I have seen dogs that I swear could smell it if you were thinking about smoking a joint, absolutely uncanny. But all dogs are limited to detecting what they are trained to smell and modern commercial edibles typically don’t contain what they are trained to smell.Hope that helps…

What's the best way to hide the smell of cannabis from a drug dog?

This is FAR from scientific, but I want to relate some experiences of friends.A buddy had one old joint, unsmoked, in a bag, in a bad, in a jar, in a box, in some dirty laundry, in a duffel bag, under a house full of stuff, in a full sized van. This is as sealed as it gets… And the drug dog “smelled” the drugs, though of course it took a team of men an hour to find anything. This guy was a wreck, in a wreck of a van, and got searched.A friend who sold pot regularly went right past a row of drugs dogs, right in front of me, on several occasions. Coming in/out of Mexico. I’ve seen similar at airports. Sometimes he had pot on him, sometimes he’d BEEN carrying so much pot, I could smell it. We were both dressed “normally” and acting normally.I’ve been searched because of a drug dog “signalling”, long before I’d ever touched the stuff, nor let it near any of my possessions. In short, yanking on a drug dog’s collar will make him signal. ANYTHING the cop chooses to call a “signal” is a “signal”. Drug dogs are a way for cops to ignore constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure - if they weren’t, why can’t they do some DOUBLE BLIND tests and show the world it works? This isn’t meant to disparage law enforcement personnel, but the tools and framework they work within does encourage certain behavior. In short - I’d seal it up right proper, but mainly, learn how to interact with police. Don’t have broken tail lights, a fuck-the-police hoodie, and be respectful.

Why do Americans feel the need to carry firearms for self-defense? Why can't the government protect its own citizens instead?

As an American who carries a firearm for self defense, I'll tell you why. I live in a rural area where the houses are hundreds of yards apart, separated by forests with poor cellular connection, and about 20 minutes from the nearest police station. I also have a loaded AR15 within arms reach of my bed. When I walk out the door I strap my concealed carry holster and pistol on and walk out the door. I go to town to run errands in a town with maybe 8 or 9 police officers for the whole county. These 10ish guys are responsible for 24 hours of protection for thousands on citizens in an area that would take 40 minutes to drive across. These officers also have to respond to vehicle wrecks, fires, and medical emergencies on top of responding to violence. We simply don't have the police force to effectively protect everyone, and to expand it would raise taxes considerably in an already poor area. It much easier to have a firearm, as they prevent many burglaries and robberies just because the criminals know everyone is packing. You also need to understand the culture here, for us firearms are just another tool. Many started shooting guns before we were 10 for sport and for hunting, and our first interactions with guns weren't violent video games or movies, but warm family gatherings shooting clay pigeons or targets to see who could shoot the best. We like guns, we don't think they are any more evil than a car or a knife or a hammer. We see them as a tool, and a fun past time. You can do evil things with a gun, as well with hammers, knives and cars.Think of it this way, why do you carry your phone with you everywhere you go? Because it's a tool, that can serve a purpose, but isn't exactly necessary for your daily life. You don't need it, but it certainly can help in certain situations. This is a gun for us. I have never pulled mine out while in a public place, but let me tell you, if I ever find myself in a situation where I need to, I will be extremely glad I had it.
