Poll Who Is The Least Annoying User On Y/a Politics Besides Yourself

I find my friend annoying because she likes anime?

Okay so put it straight: I like anime and I also can draw anime/manga styles.
My friend LOVES anime, manga, Japan, and overall the idea of anything Japanese. I didn't think much of it at first, but now it's starting to get annoying. I can never have a conversation with her because anime is all she talks about!!! I can do weeks or even months without watching it, but she watches it everyday and even sometimes when we are at lunch. My friend had a manga collection and when she found out she stormed over to her room to read a manga book for the rest of time we hung out. She always says how the subs are ALWAYS better than the dubs, she is starting to draw anime/manga, but as all beginners, they never start out perfect. She only listens to anime music, Japanese bands, wants to have a Japanese boyfriend, and she always tells us about yaoi, but I don't like that kind of stuff. I told her once that I kinda don't wanna watch anymore anime for a while and she was like: I could never do that!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it bad that I feel this way? I feel like a horrible person and a horrible friend. :(

What's the best way to disperse one's anger?

I used to go out and beat the tar out of the woodpile with an axe. Sometimes that pile of split logs was pretty high.
Since we don't have the wood furnace now, I walk until I'm over it.
Unless I stop watching the news, one of these days I'll find myself in Peru.

Which current presidential election polls are the most and/or least reliable and why?

I think there are a lot of good comments on here, and I think this is an important topic. Let's start at the beginning. Any poll released by a campaign or a political party should be looked at with suspicion. It's not that campaign pollsters are bad (in fact they are quite good), but that they only release polls that show their candidates in favorable positions. They may also release a result that reflects one turnout scenario (e.g. 60% of all eligible voters) when another more likely scenario (e.g. 70% of all eligible voters) is kept secret because it doesn't reflect well on the candidate. There's a pretty decent rule that if a campaign or a party releases a poll subtract 6 points from the margin for the candidate for whom the poll is being released. Remember a campaign will often only release a poll when the public polling is bad and/or they need a fundraising boost. Most polls are not polls done on behalf of candidate, party, or interest group. Most are public. I'm one who believes that there really aren't any great pollsters, but there are really bad ones. My own look at pollster ratings illustrated that there really isn't any consistency from year to year. (http://poughies.blogspot.com/201...) Most of these ratings don't take into account the months before the end of the campaign, so it's difficult to note if any one pollster did better at predicting the result in say August than another one. My simple rules for a pollster are a. do they do callbacks? You want a truly random sample. If harder to reach folk aren't tried again, you really are limiting yourself to only the most reachable/enthusiastic. That's not good. Response rates won't be good no matter what, but 10% is better than 5%. b. Do they call cell phones or can they reach those who do (e.g. online panel)? Again, if you don't, you're likely missing 20-30% of the population. c. have they polled before? If not, remember they could be one of the bad pollsters. Finally, the average of the polls is likely to be more accurate than any one poll. I'm in the camp that any aggregate you choose is good. Whether it be Nate at 538, RCP, or Huff Pollster. All three are going to be as accurate at the end of the day. They were during the primary. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commen...

Why do people care so much about spelling or grammar mistakes?

I made a craiglist post, i used the word ad. put spelled it add. and a person replied, correcting me and calling me a "god damn idiot"
and then if someone is talking, another person will interrupt them and correct their grammar. its ridiculous. people are just so completely insecure about themselves they need to correct people to feel superior and smarter. i just kinda laugh at them. and that craigslist person had a grammar mistake in their reply. people need to get a life. this is also a message to the people of yahoo answers.
what do you think?
and are you one of these sad people?

Getting Rid of Hair Around Nipples?

OK. First of all, the idea that shaving hair makes it grow back thicker/darker is a myth. If that were the case, mens' beards would get thicker every day (I can attest that this is not true) and American womens' legs would look hairier than mens' legs if they let the hair grow out after years of shaving.

You can check medical references if you like, but believe me; It's not going to grow back thicker or darker if you shave it.

HOWEVER, you'd probably be better off NOT shaving around such a sensitive area. Aside from the possibility of cutting yourself, there's the very real possibility of desensitizing your nipples from frequent razor burn. It wouldn't be complete, but you'd built up tougher skin from all the times dragging a razor on it.

You do NOT want tougher, less sensitive nipples!

Hair removing cream can do the same thing-- It BURNS your hair off. It's basically weak acid. NOT something you should be putting on ANY sensitive area of your body!

Plucking is your best option. If you're an adult, and the problem is serious, you may consider electrolysis to permanently remove it. See a doctor about this.

I can't speak to waxing them-- It sounds unpleasant, and could possibly do damage to such a sensitive area.

Pluck them, dear. I know it's time-consuming and annoying, and can be painful, but it's the best option.

Is there a difference between thought, feeling and behavior? Are thoughts and feelings by themselves harmless

Good question, JMH...

I too, fear that many people are incapable of distinguishing between thought, feeling and behaviour... I have been shocked at the reactions shown (by a minority of people) to questions of quite 'delicate natures'. This, in itself, I find worrying. I would like to think that it is largely due to immaturity of the "answerer" but I'm not sure that this is always the case. I feel that people lack the comprehension that thoughts and feelings are "normal" (whatever they may consist of) and largely out of our control. There is no such thing as a "wrong" feeling....My saying is: A feeling is exactly what it says on the tin - A feeling!!

I would be the first person to admit that I have thoughts and feelings that I wish I didn't... many uncomfortable thoughts have passed through my mind over the years. Show me someone that only has positive, controlled thoughts and feelings.... Impossible? I would think so anyway!
What is important is how we react (or not react) to these thoughts and feelings... as this is what distinguishes us.

I was really interested to read this question and I hope you don't mind me making a further comment in public.....

You always answer questions so well, I'm very impressed.... not necessarily with your obvious intelligence, but more so with your thought, understanding and a seemingly complete awareness of "how people tick".

I hope that you do not find my comments condescending. I, unlike icewitch, did not feel this question in anyway made you appear arrogant, but on the contrary, I feel that you asked this question because you are incredibly compassionate and therefore frustrated at the reactions of some.

Thanks again for making me think...
