Possible Overseas Credit Card Dispute

Have you ever had your credit card used for an unauthorized purchase?

Twice, and both times it happened at an Apple store (two different stores). The first time, an associate took my card to a backroom just for a moment. By the time I got home, there was a red flag on my account. Someone was spending an unholy amount of money on iTunes purchases, so the bank blocked it. Second time, I never lost sight of my card, so I don’t know how they pulled it, but shortly after my trip to the store the bank called to ask if I just spent $700 at Lowes. I did not. With Internet purchases, all you need is snap a photo of the back of someone’s card, and if a website has not implemented proper validation rules (e.g. zip code match, which is a must these days), the data might be sufficient to make a purchase. Be extra careful if you buy something with a delivery service, because they would know your zip code. If they put the correct zip code online, your bank might not catch the fraud right away. The worst fraud? When they know your address. They would make a purchase and order it to be delivered to your address. They will monitor your location and pick up the delivery at your doorstep. It is very common in certain industries. In wine retail, for example, there is a large black market for expensive champagne. Thugs would purchase multiple cases of champagne with a postal delivery to an office location where a doorman or concierge would sign for the delivery, then they pick up the cases and skedaddle. It is quite difficult for the credit card owner to prove they had nothing to do with the purchase, unless they have an excellent credit history.

I am trying to use Uber in the USA with my Indian credit card but it isn't working. What should I do?

All the 12 answers have given you all the possible causes and solutions and you should be good with them! Just to reiterate:check if you credit card in international (most common issue)check if your expense is within the limit authorised by your bankcheck if your pin (if you are asked to enter; most of them don’t) is correctcheck if the card is not damaged (magnetic strip is not corrupted)check the terminals on which your card is swiped are working all rightnotwithstanding the trouble-shooting, it is financially a prudent practice to carry a multi-currency (or a single-currency) prepaid forex card that acts as a debit card. what are the advantages - your exchange rate is frozen, you work only with a pin/no pin, but just a swipe and it is accepted by almost all.if you use a credit card the exchange rate is not known, till you get the bill and additionally there is a foreign currency markup fee, ranging from 2.5% (citibank) to 3.5% (hdfc bank), though all the banks claim to have the “lowest FCY markup fee”!!)

Debit card chargeback / dispute question?

i called my bank twice and they said to return the item first and then file a dispute... Im afried i will lose my money? have this happed to you before? What did you do? please advice... Thanks!.

The bank is 100% wrong in doing this. Go to the main office if your close otherwise go to another branch and tell them your want to file a dispute. The bank is trying to delay you in filling the claim. You should not have to send the item back at your own cost. I have seem a dispute form. One is wrong item sent. However, try paypal first. Because if paypal gets a charge back they will ask for another form of payment but I think you can still dispute this if paypal ask for payment.

What does "high risk of source application" mean in a credit card denial letter?

My sister, who is overseas atm, tried to open up a Gardener White credit card so she could buy her children's beds and the Gardener White denial said something to the effect of "the address provided did not match the address on your credit report" and the GE Capital Retail Bank said "high risk source of application". We just want to know what the latter means as I can't find a solid source! Thanks :)

American express or visa for rewards and travel?

American Express has real rewards for travel and everything else.
I pay everything by Amex.
One day I have a charge on my credit from a transaction I didnt make, and i disputed the charge, and in seconds they credited my money back.
They have an advanced points program that you can even borrow points and redeem them, and pay back the points only by using your card to buy stuff. and you have a grace period of 12 months to pay them back.
Customer service is great and I never waited on the phone for my call to be answered.
They have free rewards every month with every statements.
I like the usability of their website and how smooth and understadable their website and option of payments they have!
Good Luck with any choice you make
