Post/apocalyptic Movies Or Tv Series

Good post apocalyptic movies?

best post apocalyptic movie ever made... 28 days later... without a doubt. ask any film buff.

p.s. "Planet of the apes" are you kidding me? it's not even a post apocalyptic movie... and yeah, it has its following, but it's genred with science fiction, like star trek, star wars, and matrix, and would fall below any of those series on that list as well. planet of the apes is nowhere near the best of any list, except for "the top movies involving walking talking apes that have colonized a planet"... and thats probably just until another one comes out...

Post-apocalyptic survival movies?

Hello all

I'm looking for post-apocalyptic survival movies or tv series'. For instance movies like The Road, I Am Legend, Twelve Monkeys or TV shows like the BBC series Survivors.

If it has some zombies or zombie like characters in it, that's okay, but I'm hoping for movies similar to the ones I listed.

Thank you

What are some of the best apocalyptic and survival TV series worth watching?

The most real, heart-tugging post-apocalyptic movie that I've seen is The Road (2009)It's based on Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road and the movie remains quite faithful to the grimness of the novel. It's described on IMDB as:A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing: just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless cannibalistic bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a rusting shopping cart of scavenged food--and each other.Written by Sean PollockThis is a beautifully haunting movie. You've never seen the apocalypse like this!

What is the best post apocalyptic book/movie/TV show that you have ever seen/read?

For a book, it has to be the Black Tide Rising series by John Ringo. A man-made zombie like virus is released, Killing billions of people, the story focuses on a family of four who survive, rescue other survivors and attempt to rebuild society, while killing all the “zombies”.The best TV show in my opinion would be The Walking Dead (TV Series 2010– ).The best movie has to be Zombieland (2009) it is just hilarious.

Why aren't there any realistic apocalypse movies?

Movies about an apocalypse are always ridiculous. Why can't they make something realistic; for example something like the ''Dinosaur extinction'' but on humans. Make an asteroid crash without ridiculous Bruce Willis hero crap. Make it on the perspective of normal people away from the explosion. Have the asteroid throw so much dust in the air that plants don't grow for 10 years [like the dinosaurs]. By the 2nd month make food prices go to the sky, by 3 months they know nothing will grow for 10 years so food stops selling, people start killing each other, cannibalism, no more government structure since there's no food, etc.

Which post-apocalyptic movie/TV show/book would you hate to live in most?

The world from The Mist, the book not the movie. In the movie the mist blows over and the world returns to normal, in the book the last survivors drive as far as they can and wait for death at a motel. The world is a dense fog that is filled with monsters. It rolls in on a supermarket crowded with shoppers following a huge storm. A storm caused by the secret government project that has opened a door to Hell. It’s full of tentaclesthat burn through your fleshand hideous bugswith deadly stingersand the bat/birds that eat the bugsand skull spiders that pounceThere are even mountain sized monsters outside.Absolutely everything is incredibly deadly and you cannot see three feet ahead of you. What chance would anyone have if an acid-venomed tentacle could come from nowhere and the air is filled with poisonous giant bugs? Hell, maybe you are inhaling tiny monster bacteria from the nightmare dimension with every breath.

What are the best dystopian and/or post-apocalyptic tv series?

Jericho - cult classic now, fantastic series. The Walking Dead - new, up and coming, based off fantastic comics.Revolution - great show, kinda Hunger Games-ish. Produced by some great peopleSurvivors - BBC series, didn't last that long but it was pretty good.Jeremiah - was on during the early 00's. Good while it lasted. The ColonyFalling SkiesSome others that aren't what you asking but are relatedTerra Nova I'll add more later, those just came to mid.

What are the best post-apocalyptic TV shows?

I can only think of two, and they are hardly separate shows. The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead.Examples of post-apocalyptic shows done poorly: NBC’s Revolution and Fox’s The Last Man on Earth. Both now mercifully cancelled. In between, I’d place SyFy’s Z Nation. Not remotely as bad as Revolution and Last Man, but not nearly as good as TWD and FTWD either. Just a good show to watch when you realize that it’s about to come on.Netflix’s Black Mirror has has some pretty nice post-apocalyptic episodes. I’m thinking in particular, the season 4 episode Metalhead, where robotic, weapon wielding dogs with super-senses have all but wiped out humanity.

Good Post-Apocalyptic Novel?

Some of these are older but that doesn't mean they aren't any good:

Alas, Babylon
Earth Abides
Swan Song (more like The Stand by King)
The Day of the Triffids
Lucifer's Hammer
Dies the Fire
The Gunslinger
Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse
Deathlands

Many of these deal with life after nuclear war or some such natural disaster.

Swan Song reads much like Stephen King's The Stand with an evil entity following the good guys around.

The Day of the Triffids was made into a movie in Hollywood. Also the British made what I think was a movie out of it that was much longer. There was also an old time radio play made out of it that I think I still have on my computer somewhere. If you are interested let me know and I can email it to you.

The Gunslinger is a novel by Stephen King and is a bit weird. Probably not what you are looking for. The first book in the Dark Tower series.

Death Lands is a very large series set in the future of a post apocalyptic world complete with bad guys and mutants. I believe there are currently over a hundred books in the series. Also probably not what you are looking for.

The Road is a far better book than the movie they made out of it. The movie out right sucked compared to the book.

What post-apocalyptic world from any movie, TV show, video game or book do you think you could survive the longest in? What would be your strategy?

Post-apocalyptic worlds are so dingy and dark. People are dirty and abscessed and almost everyone is willing to eat their best friend. UGH. My strategy would be to live in a cave, in during the day to sleep, out at night to find food, water and wood for the fire. With only one entrance/exit, security would be high. And stones don’t harbor germs!!!
