Pre-booked Holiday From Work

Will a booked holiday affect my RAF application?

I finally got my RAF Application email today, I've completed and submitted it but the only problem is, I have a holiday booked to stay with a friend, in 2 months, which is to last just over 4 weeks which I have listed in my application. I was planning on booking another holiday in the Summer until tonight, now I doubt I can do it.
I was wondering what effect this will have on my application - I really don't want to have to miss out on my trip because it was extremely expensive to book. Obviously the RAF aren't going to work around my plans, but I was wondering if maybe it was possible to put my application on hold until the next intake? Or something of that nature, that was off the top of my head.

Any input is appreciated, please and thanks.

Started a new job and can't work holidays?

I just started a job at a doggie daycare/boarding place. Obviously holidays are when they'll need me, but thanksgiving and Christmas I travel hundreds of miles with my family (I'm 18) up to Iowa to see the rest of my family and these are the only times I get to see them each year. I'm afraid since I'm new they'll have me working and say I can't take it off. I'm a very good employee there, and make minimum wage, so I know I have the upper hand in the situation (it's more their loss if I quit/was fired). Should I just be firm that I'll be out of the state for several days or what's the best way to approach this? Thank you!

How to leave a holiday early?

As for "not offend"...
They either will be offended or they won't be and there is nothing you can do about it.

Since you probably pre-booked your flights, you will probably have to pay more for an early flight home.

I cut a holiday short to see somebody else by just planning it that way from the start. Instead of going to Rome from Florence, I went to Geneva Switzerland to see relatives who were working in Geneva at the time and feeling very cut off from the family.

Have you ever gone on a pre-booked holiday with an ex, how did it work out?

YES!My final year in college. My final exams. Literally, during final exam week my live in boyfriend of 3 years broke up with me.Seriously dude? You couldn’t wait a frigging week?????Apparently not. But, um we were scheduled to go to Europe together for a month. He told me I could just “go by myself”.I was like, “I’m a young, pretty blonde girl who has never traveled anywhere before…are you crazy?????? I didn’t feel safe doing that at the time. So, we went.He made me cry a lot. I remember being in Paris in the pouring rain. It was May. I thought it would be warm (I’m from California). it wasn’t. I wasn’t prepared. Dude was being mean. I called my mom from a pay phone bawling. But, I got over it. At some point in the trip we made up, got back together and stayed together for another year after that.Unfortunately, neither of us really made any changes because we were both really young and didn’t know how to communicate so one day I literally had a light bulb moment and I was suddenly over him and the stupid relationship and I ended it.He was my first love. We were a really good match in a lot of ways, but not in others.Being in proximity with someone will generally bring you back together if you still have feelings for one another.

Does anyone else have the Post-Holiday Blues?

yes, i think that those of us that are experiencing other major life changing events are even more prone to feeling sad. also, after an exhausting (emotionally and physically) holiday season, there is reason for a little post-partum, if you will sadness. following any major surge of energy/excitement/tension/anxiety, there will always be the "let-down" period. hope you'll feel better soon, and look forward to a great, bigger and better new year.

Is it okay to start a new job when you have already booked 2 weeks of Christmas holiday?

Tell your new employer that you have a vacation planned around Christmas. It is up to them if that is alright or not and how they handle issues like whether you are paid for the time or not. Many companies get relatively little done during that time anyway so they may considering giving you time off a non issue, however, it’s unlikely that you’ll get 2 weeks paid time off right after starting work.It also might be a problem since they may want you there to cover for others who already worked there and are planning on taking time off.You may have to choose, the holiday or the job.Only way to find out is to ask before you start working the new job and preferably before you give notice at your current position.

Has anyone ever wasted their pre-booked travel plans?

Has anyone ever wasted their pre-booked travel plans?Yes I did this in 2009. I had tickets for Dubai for the whole family (me, wife and 2 kids). It was going to be our first family vacation abroad. But we did not go.I used to work for a consulting firm. My job required international travel. I travelled some what frequently across Europe and America. I accumulated a few loyalty miles. My family had never travelled out of the country. So we decided to use the miles and get free tickets. I could manage 4 tickets to Dubai in exchange of all my miles. The trip was planned in December for 1 week. We were really excited. However in August that year I got a project in Egypt for 1 year. This time company was paying for family to accompany me. It was a great opportunity career wise. So I said YES. Had to sacrifice the Dubai trip.Instead of going to Dubai, our first family trip abroad was to Cairo, Egypt.I kept on rescheduling the tickets to Dubai just in case we got the opportunity to take a vacation. But this never happened and the ticket expired. I was sort of sad that day when I was no longer able to use the ticket. May be it was also the stress of work. The same day I got a call from my ex boss who had moved to another company and was visiting Egypt on a business trip. He said he wanted to meet me. I agreed. During the meeting he mentioned that he had heard good things about me from the client in Cairo. And then he offered me a good role in his new company. Only that it was based in Dubai.Next 6 years of my life were spent in Dubai :)

How does Uber's new scheduled rides work? Do they work well?

I tried it once. Scheduled a ride 7 hours ahead with a pickup time at 4:50am. The app confirmed the ride, and was saying the pickup time was guaranteed, and if it is late, I will get $10 credits. So far so good until …In the morning, when waiting for my pickup, just found THE DRIVER cancelled the trip at 4:25am, and Uber charged me $5.39 cancelation fee. It’s early, and no way to find another taxi or Uber soon. So the worst part was that I could not get to airport on time. From my experience, this feature does not work at all.Plus, Uber's customer service is almost 0, there is almost no way to talk to a human, the “customer service” just let customer choose from a issue list, and this issue is not even in the list.Last advice, DO NOT USE IT IF THE RIDE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.
