Prices Of Motorcycles And Fuel Efficiency

Do motorcycles have good fuel economy ?

Depends a lot on how you choose to compare. A high performance bike can have a surprisingly high fuel consumption, comparable with a small economy car. If you compare the fuel economy of the bike with only one on it to a car carrying four or five people then a car can be much more economical. If you compare a bike to a car with similar performance and both carrying one person then the bike is better.

But is it a relevant question? Most bike users choose a bike for the enjoyment and not as the most economic way to get from A to B. Even more so for those who choose a sports bike

Are Hyosung decent motorcycles?

Jrg - best to do a little research before making sweeping statements.

Hyosung are Korean and not Chinese. There is a world of difference.

To answer the question - the Hyosung bikes are worth a look. They have improved leaps and bounds over the years and offer good value, some with a good warranty and decent backing.

Why do most people prefer motorcycles when gearless motorcycles/scooter are much more practical & similar in fuel economy in India, considering most of them ride only in cities?

I sold my Honda Aviator recently and bought Yamaha FZ S FI .I used my Aviator for two years. Now a days when I'm stuck in heavy traffic I really miss the scooter as my motorcycle with clutch and gears becomes real pain in a$$.Even when you go for grocery shopping a scooter is really helpful because it provides a lot of space to put the stuffs. Now, the reason why I switched to my FZ is simply because my scooter lacked power. A scooter is only good for city traffic, shopping and some occasional highway riding .I live in guwahati and my home is 90 kms away , I used to go home with my scooter and every time I crossed 70kmph I felt the scooter would not be able to take anymore and against the strong wind it is really risky to cruise above 65kmph . That was the first reason .Another one is the balance of a scooter is not good, if you notice you'll see that all of the weight(rider, pillion, engine, fuel tank ) have been put above the rear wheel which results in rear tire skidding in emergency braking (I had a terrible accident). Plus in a panic situation if you end up raving the accelerator, you are screwed. So in terms of security a scooter is not a safe choice. Now if you compare the two points with a motorcycle, you will understand why most people prefer it above a scooter .She is no less than a girlfriend :) I take real care of her…

How much is motorcycle insurance? 20 years old.?

Looking to get a motorcycle for the summer. I'm 20 and will be 21 soon. I live in Pennsylvania. Maybe you could give me some examples of what it could range from? Thanks.

Which is more expensive: Car or Motorcycle?

I've been tracking this myself for the past ~15 years (after a bet I lost with a friend).

If you choose Very carefully, it can be a wash. That's buying a bike that can be fitted with touring tires, is a shaft drive, and doing all of the maintenance yourself. It's not something that would be enjoyable to ride IMHO. And it's a wash as compared to almost Any econo-box car when it comes to operating costs.

If you pick a sporty motorcycle and want to ride it like one, it's a huge losing proposition on the motorcycle. Tires, chain and sprockets, brake pads, insurance, etc... all drive the price WAY up past that of an econo-box car. My records show that it's roughly twice as much per mile to run a sport bike than my Jetta.

Now, obviously, if you factor in Purchase price, then motorcycles will be cheaper for the first several years... but considering resale value and that lead diminishes a bit.

I don't ride for savings/economy, I ride for enjoyment. When I want good fuel economy and lower cost, it's my Jetta that's taken (TDI version, I get 48mpg, replace tires every 80k miles, do oil changes at 20k miles and have done not much else in the past 130,000 miles)

What is the most fuel efficient bike in India?

Instead of analyzing this on the basis of how many km a bike runs on a litre of petrol-KMPL , I would like to draw your attention to a parameter of running cost per km.The bikes which run on petrol would probably give a mileage of 60 km per litre , which works out to a running cost of Rs.1.20 per km approximately. Now compare this to an electric scooter , since these have a running cost of just 10 paisa per km.More plus poits:The electric scooters can be charged overnight at your residence or during the day at your office.Electric scooters with lithium batteries can be charged in 1 to 2 hours, while those with lead acid batteries can be charged in 6 to 8 hours (overnight). The range per charge varies between 50 to 170 km depending on the model you chose. Some electric scooters have removable batteries , you can take out the battery and charge it even in a place where your electric scooter parking does not have an electricity point.Check outwww.elevehicle.com for more info on electric scooters.

Why does a fuel efficient bike have a cheap classic design?

The profit margin of manufacturers are too low in fuel efficient bikesA fuel efficient bike cant be of much sporty look if fuel efficient bikes are of sporty look 1)most people will not buy it due to raise in its price 2) the bike will not remain fuel efficient. The things required to make a bike sporty, 1)pillion seat should be little high,2) tyres should be wider, 3)looks should be good.In our country India, pillion seat comfort is a main concern and for ladies sitting one sided, it becomes more important. So pillion seat cant be raised. If tyres are wider, it will raise the manufacturing cost of the bike as well as lowers the fuel efficiency. A broader tyre is not as fuel effucient as slim tyres.Good look also raises the cost. Company need to pay good designers and other people for bike and stickers, cuts in the bike also raises the price. Most People above 40 dont want a sporty bike. Our country is a price concerned country. So price cant be raised. In sports bike, the position of rider is bent forward. Most people dont want to bent forward daily while riding which ultimately causes back pain. They want straight riding posture for daily travelling.Eg.: Pulsar 135 sees increased in its sale in India by transforming bike from sporty to a commuter. Its split seats also turned into single seat.

How much money is motorcycle insurance for a 17 year old?

sorry, but insurance rates are determined by a number of factors:

1) your age
2) experience
3) make and model of bike, including engine size
4) property crimes in your area
5) city, county that you live in
6) criminal activity in your area
7) credit history

For a 17 year old, on his own insurance plan for a bike like a 600cc .. look at about $1000 - $4000 a year.
