Program Changed My Homepage Chrome Settings Won

Utorrent changed my Google Chrome and search settings - can I change this? (Mac OS X Lion)?

Since installing Utorrent, every time I open Google Chrome, I get four tabs opened - my home page (which is Google) and three other search engines, including Yahoo. Used to I could leave a few tabs open, then if I shut down my Mac, they would come back when I opened up Chrome again. Now whenever I open Chrome, I lose all my open tabs after shutting down, and those three search tabs appear. I'm getting really frustrated, and I've searched for solutions and I see that there is a program called Conduit that added this on. I've looked throughout my entire computer, and I can't find this program. Apparently there was a box to check whether or not we wanted this search software installed or not, but I never saw any of this.

Is it hopeless to keep trying to get this program off my computer, or is there a way to fix this? I know the best answer would be "well you never should have downloaded this in the first place!!!" I realize that, it was a mistake, and now I wish I never did. I've already uninstalled Utorrent, but nothing has changed - the search tabs are still appearing, and my old tabs are still getting lost. It's really bothering me, so does anyone know what I should try next?

How do I edit the 8 thumbnails on Chrome's homepage?

These thumbnails are websites that you have recently been to or frequently visit. I am afraid that without downloading a theme for chrome that allows you to set your own thumbnails (which would add a different start page) then all you can do is delete them. Here is a theme that allows you to do that. (I have no used this theme) Sky and Forest [FVD]

How can I remove the virus that changes my browser's homepage to www-searching.com?

A simple online virus scan should do the trick. But sometimes these annoying re-direct viruses can truly be a pain in the A**. Hopefully you don’t have a rootkit type situation where the virus program is buried much deeper in the operating system. Sadly that’s what it sounds like. I would suggest you go to Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software or Kaspersky.com. These online virus scans, I have found, are very effective and very up to date. You can also download a free anti virus program there as well. But getting back to your virus. If it is a self replicating type of virus it will immediately duplicate itself and hide in different locations in your files or operating system. These are old school tricks. The virus has probably disguised itself to look like a legitimate file or program and the anti-virus program is overlooking it. Take your machine to a pro who will hunt down the miscreant virus.Or, my suggestion is as follows; save your files to a another location or drive. Removable disc or Google Docs along with your bookmarks, etc. Then reload your OS if you have the disc or do it online. Now before you reload your files you have to perform a separate rootkit scan and virus scans of the documents and files. Use McAfee rootkit scanner RootkitRemover | McAfee Free Tools or Kaspersky rootkit killer Download Free TDSSKiller - Rootkit Removal Now this become a little tricky. Separate all your files into their individual programs, .PDF, Excel, Word etc. Then scan each group individually. For some reason this works better than scanning all the file at once. Now the last step is to scan your new OS for rootkits. Believe it or not I have heard (never actually witnessed it) some rootkits can survive a OS reload or update. Go figure! And Good luck.

Why can't I get rid of Bing as my homepage? Help?

So, all of a sudden, Bing has randomly become my homepage on all three web browsers on my computer, (Firefox, Safari, Chrome). And I can't get rid of it, AT. ALL. I've gone to preferences, tried typing in Google as the new homepage, tried setting as a "blank page," everything. I even restarted each browser and it didn't change when I turned them back on. It was still freaking Bing. I personally hate Bing, and I don't understand this sudden invasion! Why can't I get rid of it?! Maybe it's a petty question, but it's really creepy and irritating that this has suddenly happened on ALL my browsers, and I can't freaking get rid of it. Someone help?

This is the Bing link it gives, me idk if it helps: http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3296477&searchsource=69&CUI=MC01741890988312000&UM=2&lay=1

Google Chrome as "Search Engine Setting when searching from the Omnibox"?

Keyword can be anything, it's whatever you want to call it, like GoogleSearch, keyword can be anything (you can type the chosen keyword of a search engine into the Omnibox and then press tab to search with it if it's not set as your default search engine) URL with %s in place of query should be set to https://www.google.com/search?q=%s

If you can't fix the problem, you have probably installed something that is causing it, check under Tools then Extensions to see if it's an extension, or maybe there's something in add / remove programs in the control panel (filter by date installed by clicking installed on at the top in add / remove programs to see what you've recently installed). Unfortunately it could be caused by a virus / malware, if necessary you should try running a scan with your antivirus or another reputable tool (there are some free ones, some people recommend Malwarebytes). You could also try posting a question that names the search engine that has taken over, someone might know how to remove it.

On Chrome, why does my startup page keep switching back to yahoo + keeps doing yahoo search not google search?

it is probably a Sync problem.

If you already logged into your Google account using Chrome, then chrome will sync and save all settings + bookmarks in it. and no matter how many times you uninstall it and reinstall it, it'll resync and bring all things again from the last backup.

if you logged into your account through chrome, the only way to solve your problem is to copy you bookmarks(just in case) and go to Chrome settings.

Then On Chrome settings click on "Advanced sync settings" button.
A box will appear.
you'll see a combobox says" Sync Everything"
click on it and select "choose what to sync"

Now you'll be able to customize your sync data.
All you have to do is to uncheck "Settings" & "Open Tabs".
Then click OK.

Now from the Chrome settings,
Change your startup page, and delete any other page.
and make sure that "Open a specific page or set of pages" is selected.

then go to search engines and click "Manage search engines".
delete all engines except Google. and make it as default.

Then see, if the problem still appears, then you have to go back to settings then click on " Google Dashboard".
it'll take you to a page, there is only one button "Stop and Clear".
Click on it and confirm the action.
This is will remove all sync data that has been stored in your google account.

after you cleared your sync data. sign in again, and change your sync settings just uncheck the settings option, and then do the rest.

I hope this will solve your problem
