I know that Adobe After Effects will do this - of course, cropping video is more dangerous than cropping still photos since you have way less resolution to work with. I am almost positive that Windows Movie Maker doesn't crop videos, and I'm not familiar with Avidemux. There may be a way to get yourself out of the video frame if you change the aspect ratio, which Windows Movie Maker might be able to do. If you shot the video in widescreen and set the aspect ratio to 4:3, it might work. Kind of a long shot, but worth a try if you don't have $500 to spend on After Effects. Good luck!
