I am afraid the biggest negative impact will be on religion especially if a super advanced alien intelligence has long discounted any notion of a Diety in favor of simply adhearance to something akin to Natural Law. People will feel they have been conned into believing what will turn out to be nonsense. On the other hand, there will be those, who like followers of the current POTUS, will not accept any new paradigm for their existence.

If aliens have visited Earth, they've done a very good job of hiding their tracks.Chances are, however, they simply haven't visited - the distances involved in travelling between stars are inconceivably huge, so it isn't hard to believe that no one has made the effort to come all this way. In fact, I doubt any alien civilisations even know we exist. While you can tell from a great distance that there is life on Earth (oxygen in the atmosphere is a good clue - there aren't many processes other than life that can produce large amounts of free oxygen), it is much harder to detect intelligent life. The easiest way would be detecting radio waves, but we haven't been emitting them for long.

As a skeptic to the idea that aliens have contacted with Earth, I find the most convincing arguments are not based on evidence but based on philosophy.Essentially, there is no physical evidence of contact with Earth, such as UFOs or trying to explain the pyramids.The main issue is that we don’t know how life began (biogenesis) on Earth or how it could begin on other exoplanets. It is nearly as plausible that life began on another planet and spread to Earth via a meteorite than to have developed uniquely here.Why do I say that? There are various land masses on Earth and somehow life on all of them. We nevertheless conclude that life began in one place, perhaps from one single cell, because there is a common basic structure to all life. We also conclude that all the continents and islands would eventually be colonised by life forms, even if they were separated by vast differences.Of course, the distances in space are many magnitudes more vast. Biological chemicals would need to survive the vacuum of space for millions of years. The right word description would be to say it’s “plausible”. We have no ability to assess if it’s more or less plausible than Earth experiencing biogenesis.To my mind, this is the strongest case for alien contact with Earth. I reject it because biogenesis had to happen somewhere, so I’ll presume it happened on Earth because of Occam's razor — there’s no reason to complicate an already challenging problem unnecessarily.
