Proper Route To See An Orthodontist

Can i sue my former dentist?

Depending on how long ago this was, the statute of limitations may have run out. A statute of limitations is a period of time in which you can file a claim for a certain thing. You would have a medical malpractice/personal injury lawsuit, and depending on where you are located, courts differ as to when the SOL begins to run in medical malpractice. Some jurisdictions say that it begins to run when the procedure is done and others when the result of the negligence is discovered. To pursue the case, you would need expert testimony to prove that it was his actions that caused your cavities, etc. because you can't sue for a simple "belief" that that was the cause. If there are more patients with problems, you may be able to have a class action lawsuit(where you all join together and sue as a group) but there has to be a certain number of people file claims and a certain amount of money sued for, etc. I'd consult a reputable local attorney to get an idea of what laws are like where you live and what relief you could possibly pursue. Good luck :)

How do orthodontist plan a treatment?

Orthodontic treatment is highly predictable and immensely successful. Depending on the severity of the malocclusion (bad bite) or irregularity, orthodontic treatments may occur in either two or three distinct phases. The benefits of correcting misaligned teeth are many. Straight teeth are pleasing to look at and greatly boost confidence and self-esteem. More importantly, properly aligned teeth enhance the biting, chewing and speaking functions of the jaw. There are several types of irregularities, including:Overcrowding – Insufficient room on the arch causes some adult teeth to erupt incorrectly and become rotated.Underbite – The lower teeth protrude further than the upper teeth causing the chin to look prominent.Overbite – The upper teeth protrude further than or completely cover the lower teeth.Crossbite – Some of the upper teeth may close inside the lower teeth rather than on the outside.Home | Invisalign | Metal Braces | Retainer | iSmile Orthodontics

Orthodontics: Do braces weaken the teeth roots?

There may be occasional root resorption — a blunting of the ends of the roots of the teeth that literally make the teeth shorter. No studies have isolated the cause of root resorption, but the risks are greater if too much force is applied to the teeth.Resorption is not a deal breaker to going forward with treatment. Evidence of it can be watched for and monitored during the process of treatment. In suspect cases, radiographs (x-ray pictures) of the teeth can be taken during various stages of orthodontic treatment. They can be used to monitor the presence or absence of root resorption.Orthodontists are dental specialists who have taken three or more year residencies in the study of growth and development of the face, jaws and teeth, and have specialized in how to move teeth safely and effectively. Some general dentists who have taken advanced training may also undertake orthodontic treatment; however, they must treat to the same standards as orthodontic specialists.Be sure to have a candid discussion with an orthodontist or your dentist, about the risks, benefits and treatment alternatives for an improved bite and smile through orthodontic treatment.

Any ways that I can fix my stepped on, wire retainer without going to the dentist?

So my retainer was in my pocket, it fell out and i accidentally stepped on it with my Vans shoe which is quite hard and thick. The two side wires for the back teeth are bent upwards, and the front wire is bent upwards as well. I tried bending the back ones to its normal place and it is kinda working so what should i do with the front one?? I dont really want to go to the dentist...one...because of my parents, they play hard to get...and two... this will be my 3rd retainer if i replace it. Mu first one was run over by something and then this one is stepped on. Please help...dont say i should tell my parents please...well, just give me ideas to fix it.

Should I get my wisdom teeth out if they are not bothering me?

It depends. Although they may not be bothering you now, there are several reasons to have them removed before an actual problem crops up. Here is what you must consider with your doctor before you decide on what to do about your wisdom teeth:Are they currently causing soft tissue irritation or have a cavity? It may not bother you now, but it can become a problem later on.Can you effectively keep them clean? Lack of complete eruption of the teeth into the mouth can create pockets of tissue that collect bacteria around your wisdom teeth. Also their location in the back of your mouth can make them difficult to clean. It is very important that you are able to fully clean your wisdom teeth (and the rest of your teeth) because infections involving wisdom teeth are a leading cause of multi-space infections that spread to areas around your head and neck.Are they in proper occlusion and is there room for them? Due to their location and the age at which they grow into the mouth, often times there is not enough room for wisdom teeth in the mouth and they may grow into  place where they are interfering with the normal function of your jaws. This interference can create pain in the TMJ (the joint of your jaws) down the road.Is there an opposing tooth contacting your wisdom teeth when you bite down? Not everyone has all 4 of their wisdom teeth. Many times wisdom teeth grow into the mouth without a tooth in the opposite dental arch to come in contact with during biting. This may not seem like a problem; however, without that feedback a tooth can supererupt (grow higher than surrounding teeth) and cause occlusal interferences, and rub against soft tissue causing irritation.Is it impacted? Depending on the type and severity of impaction, this can create soft tissue pockets as before and also push on the roots of your other good teeth causing resorption (the root disintegrates). A lot of times impacted teeth can just be left alone, but it really depends on what the impacted tooth is doing.Everyone can identify a problem when there are active symptoms. However, if there are signs that a major problem is coming down the road, why wait? Another reason to decide sooner rather than later, is that the bone around your teeth will mature with age and can make  wisdom teeth more difficult to remove as you get older.

Four Perfectly Healthy Teeth Being Pulled Out?

Extraction of perfectly good teeth to make room will have many undesirable effects:
1) it will make your mouth smaller;
2) it will make your nose and chin more prominent;
3) it will make the upper and lower back teeth not articulate properly;
4) it will make you look older;
5) it will cause the area around your mouth to become sunken in (aka dished-in profile);
6) it will make your lower jaw bite too far back;
7) it has been shown to cause TMJ problems, especially in females.

These problems can be avoided with expansion to create room instead of extracting teeth. Your orthodontist recommended extractions because that is the only way he knows how to treat and that method of treatment is old and outdated. It would be in your best interest to find an orthodontist or dentist who knows functional orthodontics. Functional orthodontics emphasizes facial beauty and protection of the TMJ while extraction orthodontics done by specialists disfigures the face and increases the chances of developing TMJ disorders.

Overbite correction?

if you have an overbite then i would think you'd be fitted with a bionator. that's what i have, i have an overbite, which is called a class 2 malocclusion and i don't swallow properly, called an anterior tongue thrust. the bionator fits in my top and bottom teeth and over my bottom front teeth and it pulls my jaw forward and forces it to be in the correct position. my lower jaw is so far back that is causes me intense pain in my jaw and head. i have TMJ pain so this is helping. i have to wear this bionator almost 24/7 for a few months and then i will wear braces for a few months. i'm 21 so it kinda sucks but it will definately be worth it!
