PS3 60GB corrupt hard disk and freezes with white lines?
It's weird i was about to play nba 2k13 then my ps3 just froze. I turned it back on and it froze at startup with the screen turning a different color. Sometimes it pixelates with little white lines. It said my hard drive is corrupt and it will restore files. Now when i try to enter safe mode, it just freezes and shows white lines or dots. Yesterday, i tried to restore file system but it just stopped at a certain percentage and the screen just stayed black. What could be wrong with it? Is it my gpu? Or my hard drive? Please help!! Power cycle your console again a. Same steps as one b. However this time the third beep will be a rapid beep 3. Plug in your control via USB 4. You will see a new menu with six options 5. Select Option Three: System File Restore a. This will not delete any files on your console, it will only restore any corrupted files 6. Follow the instructions on the screen if that doesnt work you may have to format the hd - this will delete all your data so back it all up first . if that doesnt work then its time to send it to sony to be fixed or use the ps3 as a paper weight / door stop

PS3 encrypts the drive and the data so it cannot be read with an external enclosure or drive mount in a PC. To recover the save games, you can mount an external drive to the ps3 if you can get it to boot to the menu system and function long enough to copy them over. Then when you get a replacement or reformat copy them back. Please note, you will be spending time looking for the saves and trying to figure out which one it is you need when you are trying to load since the index will be a bit screwy, at least it was for oblivion.Formatting is rewriting the tables and master boot records so the system knows how to work with the hardware. When these are corrupted on an encrypted drive, there is no recovery without decryption of the drive. On a brighter note, you may be able to recover the saves on the wiped thumb drive since formatting only removes the tables and boot record. The files are there just not indexed. Go buy a thumb drive of equal size and Google a piece of software called recouva made by Piriform (makers of the infamous CCleaner). You can recover and save some of the game saves on the new drive to prevent overwriting not yet recovered saves.
