How is the BSc psychology department of Bethune College? Can I get admission if my rank is 40, and there are 13 seats?

Haha! Thank you for requesting me to answer this. Yes you can…because not everyone will come on the day of admission and even if they do every year few girls leave so there'll be second, third, fourth lists.This was my department and I'm very protective about it but I'll be honest with you. The teachers are highly qualified but you might be disappointed because they don't take classes regularly. At times they don't complete your syllabus and if they do, that will be in the 11th hour which makes it stressful for students. They go slow and getting practical files signed is also a big deal. But when they take classes sincerely, they're the best teachers you'll find in Calcutta university. However, one of the best teachers has already left the college.College is good, professors are super cool and one of the best teachers but they're not well organized. They spend a lot more time in meetings than in classes. However they claim they complete syllabus every year. And if you're joining bethune make sure you can help yourself because guidance is not something you're going to get here. You get complete freedom on one hand because none of the teachers are bothered to know what you're wearing, who you're dating, whether you're bunking classes and they crack jokes about these from time to time. You'll enjoy college life to the fullest but on the other hand if you're expecting professors to spoon feed you, tell you what to do and how to do this is the wrong place. You'll be treated like a grown up so do your own thing at your own risk.And I thought I should mention this. If you join bethune you'll get to meet Sambhu da (lab assistant). Irrespective of what the teachers claim,without this man the department will fall apart. He used to be like family and he was God to us. Only he has the solution to every problem and if anybody cares about you at all in the department, it's him. We used to sit with him and chat most of the time because the teachers were in a meeting. After 3 years this is the only person you'll miss like crazy. :)Bethune has been one hell of an experience. In bethune you don't just study, you bunk classes (keep in mind the 75% attendance) and enter a fancy restaurant. Study sincerely at home because the selection examinations are very difficult here and people fail, which means you'll not be able to sit for the final exam. Take the practical classes seriously. But overall have fun! It's a very cool department.

What are the placement prospects at TISS for MA in Psychology (counseling as well as clinical), package-wise?

HiI belong to the first batch of Clinical Psychology that passed out from TISS and can tell you from my experience that placement prospects after MA there are quite encouraging. With respect to package, placement starts from 20K per month and can go up to 60K (based on my own batch and that of my seniors). Usually conventional therapy related jobs pay less (upto 30K) but if you're open to competing in the general placement drive (for all departments) of the college, money wise there are a lot of more lucrative opportunities, mostly in big shot NGOs and the corporate sector.

Does the IEP team decide class placement?

Hi,

Yes. They have the authority to decide class placement because an IEP often determine where the student's grade level is at and the accommodations that it will take to increase.

" Can the IEP (placement) team override school tests and teacher recommendation deciding where you are placed?"

I am certainly sure. Although an IEP is often reviewed each year to determine where the student's needs are, the student is often re-evaluated every 4 years (well at least in my former school district). But it is up to the IEP team to determine whether testing will have to take place in order to determine what classes will best educate the needs of the student. As for Teacher recommendations, that is not needed. The Teacher gives reviews about the student in the IEP because they play a huge role in this process and the students education and needs. It all depends on how much progress the student has made.

It also depends on your unique abilities to make progress and learn; not just grade level.

A child's IEP team determines placement based on:

*IEP requirements;
*The amount of direct instruction the child needs;
*The setting most likely to help the child achieve his goals;
*The school facilities needed to support the child's learning; and
*Consideration of services in the child's home school.

Good luck with everything! I wish you the best. :)

Is amity university a good option for psychology?

Its good if you are interested in research as you will be submitting at least one paper every year. Most of the faculty is useless in terms of academics but the ones who are good can help you with every subject but it might take a while to figure out which one is loaded with useful information as you can judge a teacher only when they take your class and till then they just like other teachers. If you go to them after reading the topic concerned they will be more than happy to help. Almost every faculty is very very helpful there are few exceptions but ignore them.Attendance is a big issue. Always remember in amity you don’t join psychology or any particular course. You also join a huge load of other crap like foreign language, English, and other crap which have a lot of weightage.You will be giving many presentations so your public speaking and communication is going to improve a lot. There are many extra-curricular activities happening for your overall development they are not compulsory so only proactive students take them up.Like every other place it has its ups and downs but I loved it. And if you are a straight guy one added bonus is that the class is loaded with girls, which is a huge downside for girls .

How is the MSc in Clinical Psychology at Christ University? What kind of placements are offered there?

MSc Clinical Psychology at Christ University is one of the best programs of the kind in the country. It is notoriously difficult to get in and they work you to the bone. Placements are offered by the University but internships are the supposed to be chosen by the students themselves. As for the language barrier, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Bengalureans are pretty accomodating like that. But knowing the language is definitely going to help.With regard to faculty and research, there is an emphasis on academics as well as departmental activities. Faculty is helpful and research is a mandatory part of the course.Is it worth it? Well, definitely.
