Punishments For Driving A Car Not Registered Under My Name Without Physical Registration And

Is it legal to drive a car that is not registered under your name?

.. is it legal to drive an automobile if my parent's has insurance in the car but doesn't have my name on it?
i'm sorry if this is a stupid question but i just don't know.. they won't let me drive my own friggin car that they bought for me because the car's not registered under my name.. but my friend told me that it's fine to drive the car as long as your parent's names are in the insurance

Is there a penalty for driving without a physical license?

I was driving a car with an expired registration, and expired inspection (you have to get the inspection to get the registration, to help force people to keep registered).  It was a Saturday morning, and I was going to get inspected.  No really.I manged to leave my wallet at home.  No really.  When I was pulled over, I provided the name, address and DOB of the owner (not me), and my name, address and DOB.  Last name of the driver and owner matched, as did the addresses.  After what felt like an hour (when you are stressing), he came back for a ticket or no insurance (it was in the wallet too), and no license.  Presenting them both at the police station within two weeks got both dismissed.  He could have towed and impounded the car, but didn't.  I went home, got the wallet, went back out, and got inspected and registered. So long as you are not otherwise interesting to the police, you shouldn't have trouble.  If you are interesting to them (I'll leave out the obvious reasons), then they can do lots to you.  So carry it at all times.

Car dealer gave me wrong registration?

Hi, I leased a BMW in Virginia back in 2007 and at the time, my dealership messed up my registration. They registered a X5 VIN in my name whereas my car is a 3 series coupe. I brought this to their attention at that time and they said that they will fix it and that i can drive my car till then. I checked with them a month later and frequently in between for a little while, but they never fixed it. Earlier this year in June my two year registration expired and i went to them to renew it since it was a wrong vehicle. Again they said they will fix it, but they have not done so till now. They took away my plates and i gave me temp tags to use till they fix it. I have been asking them for temp tags for the last six months since they have still not fixed my registration.

I am really upset since-
1. I paid a good price for the car and the service is lousy.
2. I have to drive on temp tags all the time which i am sure no one likes
3. I have to remember to renew my temp tags each month.
4. I have already gotten two "expired registration" tickets since i did not remember to renew my temp tags on time.
5. Overall really frustrated at paying for the mistakes committed by the dealership and their "dont care" attitude.

Is there any way i can sue them and make them accountable for their mistakes and attitude.

thanks.....

Is there any fine if a vehicle is not registered on my name?

If you are driving it with the permission of the person it is registered in there is no fine. Think of it this way when a person rents a car it is not registered in their name but in the name of the rental company, your signature on the lease agreement allows you to drive the vehicle without it being registered in your name and a verbal agreement by the registered owner will basically be the same.

What is the penalty for driving without insurance in California?

Caught in a random check. Drivers caught operating a vehicle without valid insurance will be fined anywhere from $100 to $200 for a first offense, and between $200 and $500 for a second offense. Additionally, your vehicle may be impounded and towed away, in which case you will not be able to get it back until you obtain insurance and pay all towing and storage fees. Get into an accident. In California, your license will be suspended, possibly for up to four years. Bear in mind that this can happen whether or not you are at fault for the accident. You may be able to get your license reinstated after one year if you obtain valid insurance, provide proof of it to the DMV and pay a reissuance fee. You will also be required to obtain an SR-22 Proof of Financial Responsibility certificate and carry an additional high-cost SR-22 insurance policy on top of your regular one. Your vehicle may be impounded and towed from the scene. If that happens, you will be required to pay towing and storage fees before your vehicle is returned to you. Civil costs for an accident without insurance. If you are the party at fault, then you are responsible for the cost of all resulting damage. And that means everything: damage to all vehicles involved; and all medical costs for injuries to yourself, the other driver and any third-parties. This includes damage to other public and private property such as street signs and lights, bus stop fixtures, store fronts, etc. California requires all drivers to carry uninsured motorist coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage means that if the other driver in your accident has it, his insurance company will compensate him for his losses even if the accident is your fault.Don't think that you are safe because of it. In fact, if you have assets, the other driver’s insurance company is likely to sue you to recover their costs. For e.g. suppose you get into an accident that is your fault resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in damage. If you have no vehicle insurance, but own a home with $100,000 in equity, the other party’s insurance company is likely to sue you to recover the thousands it paid out to their client. And you may lose your home.

Can I get a license plate for my car without a driver's license or permit?

Question: Can I get a license plate for an automobile without having a drivers license?Certainly. If you purchase a vehicle from a dealership, they will give you temporary tags and then order permanent tags for you from the state. These can be mailed to you (or you can stop by and pick them up) after your registration has been processed by the state. This take 10 days to 2 weeks on average. If you purchase a vehicle in a private sale, you can go to the state DMV/BMV offices and obtain your registration and license tags there. You fill out some paperwork, give them the old title and pay a series of fees for taxes, registration and miscellaneous other items. They will either give you the license tags that day or you will be given temporary tags there also and have the new ones mailed to you. The mailing option will again take (on average) 10 days to 2 weeks.NOTE; If you don’t have a drivers license, it would be very unwise to drive the vehicle to the DMV/BMV branch. In some states, a clerk would need to check your vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and they will ask how you arrived in the vehicle if you are not licensed to drive. They can and will contact the police anythings will get less pleasant from there. Finally, in some states (Illinois being one) private agencies are allowed to undertake some DMV functions, including vehicle registration. They are often far less crowded and more convenient than DMV locations; however they often charge as much as a 25% surcharge for that convenience.Depending upon the location, they will either give you temp tags and request that you return for the permanent tags. Or they can provide with new permanent tags ,s o long s they are “basic” and not personalized, or specialty plates.

Can I legally buy or own a car without a driver’s license in California? What does the law say?

A car is a possession that only requires state registration and licensure if you intend to operate it on state and federal highways. Anyone, including a toddler, can hold the title to a motor vehicle in the U.S. They are simply not allowed to operate it without the proper government authorization. I purchased my first car at 14 in Connecticut, repaired it and intended to register it after I got my license at 16. Nobody can stop you from owning something, just using it. In many states, the same rule applies to guns. Minors can own a gun, and even shoot it on private property without registering it. That being said, there are certain vehicles that nobody is even allowed to start the engine on, in the state of California. The example I know best is any heavy truck with a 2 stroke Diesel engine. The fine just for starting in within state borders can be up to $10000 dollars.
