How to teach your dog to play dead?
Your dog is very smart. I personally trained my Great Dane as well and within 3 weeks he knew sit, down, stay, bark, beg, jump, fetch, kiss-me, and I tried roll over. However he is a big dog so he doesn't like roll over, so I couldn't teach him Play Dead, but this is how you do it(it is a bit complex): Have your dog sit down on a comfortable area, such as a rug or soft, flat grass. Pick a spot where there is little distractions, such as other dogs or people playing. Start with some easy commands, like SIT and LIE DOWN to get him warmed up. Now to begin training. Say BANG, while pointing your hand at him in a gun-like position or whatever handsignal you want him to associate with the trick. Have him sit (you may use normal verbal commands at this time), lie down, and then, if he is familiar with this, roll over. PRAISE him only AFTER he does the whole routine. Praise him and give one treat. You may use more treats for the first few times he completes the task successfully, to make sure he understands what you are asking of him. Repeat the last two steps until he has it mastered. It is better if he gets these separate movements locked in his mind before you tell him to remember and do it on his own. Now try to limit the alternative commands (sit, down, roll over), and only say BANG with your gun-hand signal. If your dog tries to roll over every time, mid roll-over stop his legs in the air and gently put your hand on his stomach. This helps to teach him that you do not want him to roll all the way over. Keep trying and don't give up. Depending on your dog, he may learn faster or slower. Don't get discouraged if he doesn't understand right away. He's doing his best, just for you. When training is complete, I'm sure you will be pleased with the results. Got this off the web
When i'm upstairs my dog cries for me. What should i do?
When my little pug puppy is downstairs, i have to put up the gate that blocks her from running upstairs (The reason for this is because she almost fell through the stairs that falls all the way to the basement once) She cries for me and i don't know what to do, I want to train her from crying when im gone.
Puppy Training Pads Which side?
Neither side. Take your puppy outside to pee and poop instead of teaching it that it's OK to use your home as it's personal toilet. Throw the pads in the trash or take them back if the package hasn't been opened. Training pads are one of the worse inventions in the *dog world* in probably the last 100 years. Add: It CAN go outside with only one vaccination. Keep it on your own property. Don't take it on other public property where other dogs may have been.
I'm going to adopt a German shepherd puppy. What should I know?
Congratulations on your new German Shepherd puppy! I hope he or she brings you many years of companionship and enjoyment.I've collected the most popular puppy articles from German Shepherd Central in one place, "New German Shepherd puppy? Start here!" You may want to take a look at those. The first thing is to determine how you will confine your pup when you aren't at home. A tall exercise pen (see jefferspet.com) or airline-style plastic kennel are good choices for GSD puppies.I highly recommend Susan Garrett’s DVD "Crate Games" to crate train your new puppy. The rule of thumb for the length of time puppies can be confined is their age in months, plus one hour. So if your pup is 8 weeks old, the greatest amount of time she should be left in a crate or ex-pen without a break is three hours (two months + one).My favorite training books for German Shepherds are "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson and "Purely Positive Training" by Sheila Booth. The second thing to decide is what "job" you will be training your new German Shepherd to do. All GSDs need mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. Your local dog training club can get you started in the dog sport of your choice, or you can check out Fenzi Dog Training Academy if there is no club near you.Remember to make all veterinary visits fun for your German Shepherd puppy. Feed your puppy treats, and limit the number of unpleasant experiences (shots, blood draws, excessive handling by strangers, etc.) that happen in one visit. If your puppy needs ear treatment, for example, try to conduct that visit separate from other scary or painful events. Ask your veterinarian whether he or she will play with your puppy and his or her favorite toy for a few minutes before or after each visit. And last, be patient with your new friend! He or she needs your help to be the best German Shepherd around. Enjoy.
How can I get my Blue Heeler puppy to stop biting me?
I have a 7 week old blue heeler and she keeps biting/nipping me and my family's feet, hands, clothes, etc. and I'm wondering how I can stop her from doing that
Why is my dog so stupid?
i don't think there is anything wrong with her. Many dogs do the same (except for the wall thing i do not think that is normal) but besides that i do not think anything is wrong with her. Some dogs are just not as smart as others but i would not say she is stupid,
How can i get my dog to know im his master?
I let my grandpa have my dog while I was on vacation so when I came back my dog thought my grandpa was his owner. My grandpa is always nice to the dog and lets him do what he wants. I always tell the dog don't fo that and stop! But when I tell that to the dog he just runs to my grandpa. I tell the dog to go back to bed and he just gets in between my grandpa's legs. How can I get to know I'm his owner?
