Purging To Lose Weight

Does purging make you lose weight fast?

I've started making myself throw up and I feel better afterwards. I'm not going to do this a lot and do it for a long period of time. So all the bad effects won't exactly get to me as to someone who has been doing it for years. But does it actually make you lOse weight?

How can purging NOT help you lose weight?

No matter where I look on the subject, it is insisted that purging can in no way help a person lose weight, and that most bulimics are "overweight or close to normal weight". However, I just can't find any sense in that, and I've also seen instances where that has been blatantly misproven: Edie Sedgwick binged and purged at 95 pounds, Marya Hornbacher dropped weight by throwing up every bite that she ate, and on an episode of Doctor Phil about eating disorders, a bulimic woman was showcased to have went from 200 something pounds to 90 pounds through binging/purging. There are many underweight bulimics/purgers (keep in mind, I'm not just talking about purging after a binge here, I'm talking about purging food in general) that I have actually seen. I admit to seeing how some bulimics can be overweight: ridiculous binges, half-assed purges, and normal meals in-between. But for a person who doesn't eat anything and then purges what they do eat, regardless if it is a binge or just a normal meal, I can simply not see how they wouldn't lose weight. Besides, how can any nutrients/calories from food be taken in if the food isn't in the person's body? IT MAKES SO SENSE. I feel like all the "purging doesn't work" crap is a bunch of bull to stop people from killing themselves, but even still, I'd expect some websites to have the truth. What gives? Also, anyone who's had personal experience with gaining/losing weight from purging?

P.S I never admitted to purging myself so don't attack me.

How much weight do you lose by purging? ?

I am not going to be like all the other peole here telling you it is wrong and unhealthy because you probably already know that. You can only purge fifty percent of the calories that you consumed if you purge within 30 mins of consuming. If you lose weight by purging it is mostly water weight. I don't know exactly how much weight you will lose in a week because it depends on so many other factors, but it won't be a lot. Hope I helped.

Does Purging help you lose weight?

Ok, so I want you guys to be honest, and don't tell me it's not healthy for me, I already know that. If I don't binge, is eating small portions and purging going to help me lose weight? I read that I would gain water weight...what is water weight? Do you guys have any suggestions on how to lose weight fast? I can't just not eat because my mom forces me to eat. So I have to purge, do you guys have any tips to make it easier and keep it a secret? Thanks in advance xxx

Do people with purging disorder lose weight?

health issues aside some one who binges and purges does not lose weight just stops gaining and loses their water weight and soon the body eats it self which causes you to lose what is thought to be fat but by the time this happens your close to death.

Does purging after meals make you gain weight or lose weight?

The reason that people say purging after meals can make you gain weght is this-

Often people who purge (bulimics) will binge first- they say when purging you can only get rid of about 50% of the calories you consumed as the purging motion/contractions also pushes food down- so if say you binge on 5000 calories you will probably still digest 2500 calories- thus, if that is on top of your normal meals you will gain weight.

If howvere, you only eat 2000 calories in the day and you purge each time you will probably only digest about 1000, thus losing weight.

The other problem with purging is that if you eat, say 3000 calories and DON't purge it, you will probably feel very full and stop there for the day. If you eat 3000 calories and purge, your perpetuate the binge/purge cycle- you will feel empty after purging (despite having consumed at least 1500 calories) and probably end up eating and/or binging again... it goes on and on and on.

I've had bulimia for over 12 years now- because my binges have been extreme I have always gained weight (up until about a year ago) as a result of my eating disorder (despite purging sometimes 15 times a day).

Hope this helps :)

How do I lose weight if I purge every meal?

You should not do that. You might lose weight, but on your way to dying (and this WILL kill you), you will ruin your teeth, your hair will fall out, your breath will be terrible and you will feel worse about what you're doing to yourself than you do about a little extra weight.Assuming your goal is not to look svelte in a coffin as your family and friends cry over you, there are many ways to get lean and healthy. The basics of getting a healthy, lean body are incredibly simple, though not easy at first. Eat whole foods, mostly vegetables, and lean proteins. Avoid fried and processed foods. Exercise for a half hour each day. If you really have a lot of excess fat, this will address it. You will feel great and look great.Be kind to yourself. Don't purge. Don't starve. Neither are necessary to be healthy and lean.

Is it okay to purge for weight loss?

Take this from a mostly recovered bulimic purging in the short run makes you feel good. In the long run it is horrible and detrimental to your physical and mental health. My wake up call was the crumbling of my teeth which began to partly fall out. It also becomes your natural reaction to vomit after meals so even if you did not intend to purge after eating a healthy meal you may accidentally vomit in an inconvenient place especially if the meal you have consumed is large which is kind of awkward if you vote and a friends dinner table. Essentially purging becomes addictive and spirals out of control. Weight loss is not a quick fix it is a complete lifestyle change towards a physically and mentally improved version of yourself. If you want it badly enough you will take the long road for long term results. If you are lazy you will get stuck in your vicious circle (with purging) and you will be left with constant guilt trips, feeling inadequate and possibly less teeth than you started with.
